"Had a mad craving for a non vegetarian thali so did a search on Just Eat and found Khandan so thought I'd give them a try. Their prices are very reasonable so I figured it was worth the risk. Delivery was surprisingly quick so I was feeling very positive when I answered the door. I was warmly greeted by a very sharply dressed gentleman who very possibly doubled as a waiter. It was almost as if the restaurant has come to me which was lovely given I can't really go out anymore. My food arrived in a very pretty bag and was perfectly packed so once again 100% for professionalism. When I unpacked everything they had given me some poppadoms and a couple of sauce dips, so by now I was really happy. The food all looked appetising and I couldn't wait to eat it. Unfortunately, although everything looked divine, it didn't pass the taste test BUT let me continue. I think I am actually being unfair as shortly after I started to eat I began to feel unwell, and it is feasible my sense of taste had been affected. My Tikka MASALA for example tasted like tomato soup, and I couldn't detect any sort of spice blend underlying. I play around with Indian food myself and had expected cumin and coriander base at least. My lamb kebob tasted like it was just lamb with red food colouring and masses of white pepper. I'm pretty sure that is NOT what I was given at all so please go with what others have said before me! Good job Khandan, and when whatever I've caught has gone I will definitely try you again. You have nailed customer service, and I'm sure next time the food will more than match your standards. I'm pretty sure the problem is entirely down to my faulty taste buds and it all looked really delicious. "So I booked this place for 19 people to celebrate my 30th birthday. We had 5 different families with their children and had the worst experience I have ever had!! We booked here specifically as I personally do not like a carvery however I think a carvery would be better than the roast dinner I received here. 3 of us had a lamb roast to which it was fatty and acquired a weird bitter taste. The carrots were hard and far too big and to top it off the roast potatoes were soft. The stuffing was horrible and looked more like an onion bargee and there was just a silly lump of shredded cabbage. The selection of vegetables was a joke. The whole dinner was tasteless however the 2 people with beef said the beef was cooked nice. 2 people had burgers, 1 being a child and the other an adult and both couldn’t eat the burgers as they were far too over cooked. 1 small child had fish fingers but these were rockhard and far too overcooked. The service was from the waitresses were very poor. They never came to ask us if we needed anything and how the food was. They staff were not friendly and welcoming atall and the whole experience was a disaster. I was told that a manager would be out to speak to me but this did not happen. It was my 30th birthday and I was so disappointed by the whole day. It completely ruined it, I did not have a nice day atall and I certainly will not visit for food again!!! After spending over £200 and leaving hungry, no I certainly would not recommend!!"

"I would have liked to give this popular venue 3.5 stars if it were possible because, although decidedly unspectacular in terms of the food, I believe it is filling exactly the niche its proprietors intend and is therefore just that bit above average. It is surprising to find a place like The Pumphouse at Nene Court. Going by the general vibe of the shops and businesses there, you would expect to find an upmarket (or at least 'gentrified ' delicatessen or coffee-shop here but, whilst The Pumphouse looks quite grand from the outside, inside it has the stark atmosphere of a canteen/dining hall. As others have observed, it appears a little down-at-heel and utilitarian in décor. However, as far as I could see, it was perfectly clean and hygienic and its resemblance to what we used to call a 'greasy spoon ' is superficial. There is an extensive menu, taking in fry-ups, sandwiches/panini and a range of lunch dishes of the type you might find in a pub-grub menu. The prices are very competitive. I found the service brisk and cheerful. The food I ate was tasty enough and perfectly well made but unexciting, matching perfectly the down-to-Earth atmosphere of the cafe. If you are looking for no frills, competitively priced, reasonably tasty but modest food in an unpretentious environment (and sometimes I am , then this will be spot on. My only disappointment on the day was that, based on the location, I was anticipating something rather different. A solid average."

"We were greeted by a friendly staff member who directed us to the bar area until we were ready for our table. The decor and ambience was very warm and inviting with comfy sofa areas. We were then shown to our table. We were asked to pre-order our food the day before our booking but we asked if we could add a couple of sides whilst we were there. We asked for some Halloumi fries as a side only to be told they are a starter and we can 't add starters ..we reiterated they were requested as a side to then be told I don 't think you understand, the halloumi fries are a starter and come from a different side of the kitchen ......what? We asked for some chips as a side as well which must come from the other side of the kitchen as that was fine. Five minutes later, the 'manager ' came back to say we could have halloumi fries, how many portions did we want. The food arrived....with the halloumi fries that were cold and sent back. We ordered some more drinks which took ages to arrive as did the sides of chips. On the whole the food was ok although the battered fish tasted like it had been frozen. After successful desserts we asked for the bill which arrived with a ten percent service charge already added on to it which should always be a discretionary charge in my opinion. We decided to pay the full bill including service charge as there were ten in our party and the service was intermittent as opposed to bad. The food and service was no more than ok which is a real shame as the location, decor and ambience suggest it could be so much better."

"I have been searching for a venue to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday next year. He is of Jamaican descent, and we found June Plum and decided to take him there for a meal this year. Upon our arrival at 5:15pm, my daughter gave a cake to a staff member to hide in the kitchen as a surprise for my husband. We requested to place our food order at 5:25pm, but even after our drinks order had been taken and served, our food order was not taken. After a second request, we finally placed our food order. By 6:15pm, we still had not received our food and when we inquired about the delay, we were given a story about the table before us still not being served. At this time, there were only them and us in the restaurant. We were told maybe another 15 minutes for our food, but by 6:30pm, we were still waiting. The front of house manager apologized and could not give us a definite time for our food, mentioning that the table before us would take another 10-15 minutes. After two hours of waiting, we were still not able to eat. The staff mentioned attending a cricket match the day before, but we were unsure how that was relevant to our wait. When we finally asked for the bill and received it along with the surprise birthday cake for my husband, which was supposed to be a surprise, we were disappointed. Although the front of house manager apologized and offered us the drinks on the house, we have decided not to return to June Plum and will not be booking it for my husband's 60th birthday meal. While we appreciate supporting small businesses, we cannot tolerate such long waits for service."
