"We accidentally drove past the restaurant to the crown and thought we were hungry now and it looks pretty good from the outside. Quickly found a parking lot on the home parking lot behind the house and quickly looked at the menu. All right, let's try. A typical pub inside the entrance area. What immediately stabbed us in the eye, the tables were very beautifully covered. A nice reception by the waiter and free choice. We chose a window in the nearest room. The ceilings are beautifully high and filled with stucco. Here too we felt very comfortable. The waiter brought us the cards and told us, today is Schnitzeltag. Each carving costs 9,50€ today! The selection of carvings is quite large. So 2 x Schnitzel and 1x fish sticks for our little mouse. To drink Riesling dry for me (4,20€, a big page for our daughter (2,30€/0,3l and for my husband as a driver a soft wheat (3,60€). It was nicely dressed and quite tasty. Then the drinks and soon the main dishes. That was a little too fast for us. If we go to a restaurant, we would like to sit down. (Lieber Gastronom, if you want to get rid of your guests quickly, no problem, but they also live from the drinks? We prefer slow food than almost food! I decided, as already mentioned, for a Schnitzel Kettwig . The scavenger was ok, the broccoli unfortunately a little too al dente and sweetly said still very sweet, the potato gratin unfortunately quite salty. My husband opted for the Schnitzel Altenessen : Schnitzel with Camembert overbaked, with Pommes. The schnitzel was too thick to us, we rather knocked it a little thinner, the Camembert tasted very strict (so my husband usually has fewer problems, but if he already pushes a bit to the side it is very rare and was too intense in the taste (always matured quite long and the pumice were unfortunately warmed for the second time in the frituse. They were quite firm. With our daughter, it looked similar to the Pommes. From the 5 fish sticks they ate only 3 (and fish sticks are their body food Our conclusion: Cosy pub with hard and nice staff. For dinner, it was enjoyable but not better than in a feast. (In the Sattmacher Grill in Überruhr or at Nieding in Kupferdreh, the food is a little better than in here! We're not coming to this restaurant for dinner anymore. Why did we award 3 stars anyway? The service was quite good and on Zack, the ambience has addressed us, but does not fit for food. The food was satisfying, because lacking or inconsistency I describe other experiences. Man can go to dinner there, but you don't have to."

"We visited Hannappel for dinner in November with a smaller group during a medical fair in Duesseldorf. The restaurant is located in the outskirts of Essen and therefore at least a 15 minute cab ride from the center of Essen. Despite being not to early...only two other tables were occupied, which gave the evening a somewhat stiff atmosphere. The restaurant itself is in a older building but the dining room looked modern and contemporary. The menu is fairly limited and has a focus on regional products with a slightly modern and fancy touch. The quality and taste of of the amuse-gueule, starters and the main course was flawless. Despite the good taste and presentation we were not completely satisfied with our visit. Firstly the service strongly needs to be improved. Despite having three servers in an almost empty restaurant none of them really took care of us personally after we placed our orders. Nobody asked if we cared for more water or wanted a second bottle of wine, so we had to remind them a couple of times. Nobody was interested in recommending a bottle of wine and after I selected some Italian red and asked for alternatives very little to none came back from the server. Secondly the quantity of the main courses was fairly limited, so we would have left hungry if we had not ordered appetizers and dessert. Also a little awkward that the chef de cuisine showed up at the bar a couple of times and chatted with the servers but never came around to introduce himself or asked if we were pleased. All these are just some minor flaws and no big deal but I would like to see these improved since the work of the kitchen was excellent."
