"It's far too predictable and easy to rag on Starbucks these days, but don't let that kid you into thinking their coffee is anything but sub standard. When Tamp Culture and Workhouse Coffee are within a few minutes' walk, getting a coffee from Starbucks is just silly. Sure, I've had worse coffee, much worse, but rarely from a dedicated coffee shop. I almost think maybe they make their coffee deliberately fairly poor to trick you into thinking that's what coffee always tastes like, that you don't really like it, and that therefore you'll have to buy coffee with six gallons of milk, sugar, syrups, and cream lobbed into it in order to enjoy it and, hey presto, that's what Starbucks are good at. If you genuinely don't really like regular coffee but love a triple whip extra soy hazelnut mocha with double sprinkles and a superfood cleansing boost injection then fine, obviously go to Starbucks. Those coffee based drinks can be quite nice on occasion and, though I think Costa do most of them better, Starbucks is a fine choice. But I, for ages, really thought that this was the only type of coffee for me, because I'd tried Starbucks' more regular coffees and found them utterly revolting, so just believed I didn't really like coffee. This strikes me as a rather cruel and unfair trick to play. It's like a beer specialist producing a really horrible cider to convince people they hate cider and thus only bother with beer. So, I implore you, if you've tried Starbucks' regular coffee and think it's sort of okay, then please, please make the trip to Workhouse and try something ten times better and, if you've tried Starbucks' regular coffee and hated it, before you turn straight back to your word salad order, also walk over to Workhouse and let someone who can really make regular coffee make you something. Maybe you still hate it, and that's cool, pop back to Starbucks and enjoy, but maybe, like me, you'll find you'd been being decieved by Starbucks for years and that actually, regular, unadulterated coffee is one of the greatest things on this planet, just not if you buy it in Starbucks. So Starbucks gets a three stars. It's coffee options are pretty good (though I do think Costa has the edge), but offering people regular coffee of this low quality is either just poor quality roasting, grinding, and brewing through a lack of bothering, or a cynical deliberate ploy to shock people back to the coffee and keep them away from coffee houses that do regular coffee really well. Also their cold brew is terrible. Just absolutely terrible. Cold brew coffee is one the greatest summer beverages going, but Starbucks' offering is just dire. Costa do a really great cold brew yet another reason to go there instead."

"We have been to cotes many times 9 out of 10 times it has been excellent. This was a 19:30 Sunday evening birthday booking to be fair, a glass of kir royal was given to me on arrival. We ordered our food which on the whole was excellent.....The Ribeye steak was perfectly medium rare....The Breton Chicken was delicious and, once again being served as a spatchcocked half chicken, after a brief spell of getting two legs for half a chicken!! A couple of things spoilt the almost perfect evening; The opening page of the Cotes website is a crab...guess what? No crab maison! When asked if we needed any condiments for our meal........ No vinegar.!...How can you have a restaurant without vinegar?, You can't serve chips without vinegar...... Especially when there is a Co-op supermarket 100 yards away!! The other thing I would point out was that i didn't think that gratin dauphinois potatoes, which accompanied the chicken was french for slices of undercooked potatoes in milk! because that's how it came! For some reason the atmosphere, especially from the staff was fairly cold. As though something had happen earlier. On past occasions the staff have always been talkative friendly. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it felt as if something was wrong. There was a very large party in there, so it might have been the pressure of that. We like going to Cotes, and despite these small doubts will continue to visit. My advice to the restaurant?......iron out these small faults quickly, because the big guns....ie Wagamama, Mama Loves Spaghetti, Giggling Squid etc. are moving in!! also.......get some vinegar!! "I started with the gravlax, which was delightful but on the smaller side for a starter. It was beautifully presented with accents of finely sliced green apple dressed in a lemon gel, dollops of avocado puree, and tiny touches of mayonnaise. My companion had the red pesto arancini, which didn't look very appealing initially, leading to her slight disappointment, but they turned out to be divine in flavor. I mistakenly ordered my bavette steak medium rare instead of my preferred rare, and I regretted that decision. However, it was still a very good dish, featuring tender steak accompanied by flavorful barley, sautéed haricot vert, and fresh pea shoots. My companion's lamb was outstanding; it was cooked sous vide and seared at high heat, served with delicious Borlotti beans, a sweet poached pear, and a wonderfully caramelized carrot. The entire plate was exquisite and beautifully complemented by the lamb. We also enjoyed a side of new potatoes, which were presented in a sauce with veal, butter, and chives, topped with roasted breadcrumbs for added texture. All the dishes were thoughtfully designed, although they were a bit on the salty side. I personally enjoy a salty flavor, but if you're sensitive to salt, you might find the dishes overwhelming. The house red wine was pleasant and reasonably priced at £19.40 per bottle. They also accept the Tastecard, a discount card for restaurants that offers 50% off food during weekdays. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience!"
