"We had a Japanese friend staying with us who had not had a Japanese meal in England before. We decided to try this Japanese restaurant as a takeaway and ordered several dishes. Our friend rated the meal overall as a 6 out of 10. I...would agree with her. The dishes were cooked to the Western palate and had a little too much sugar added making the fried udon, teriyaki chicken and fried aubergine all too sweet for the Asian palate. However, we will still visit the restaurant in future. We will make a point to request the chef to reduce the amount of sugar and salt."

"We visited Koto Restaurant on North Parade for Sunday lunch for the first time, and we wish we had tried it sooner. The ramen broth was incredibly delicious, with a gentleman next to us remarking that it tasted just like what he had in Japan. The menu was straightforward and easy to order from, with both the broth and noodles being homemade and preservative-free. The food was healthy, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The only downside was that they do not take reservations, so there may be a wait. Overall, I would rate the food at Koto Restaurant as some of the best in Oxford."

"A very disappointing experience. The menu on the web site is nothing like the menu you are given at the table. The menu is extremely limited and poor. The meal is not value for money as you are charged for all the extras, such as chips etc on top of the mail item. This restaurant needs to look at the surroundings competition and adjust accordingly otherwise they will go out of business. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone, very very poor hence the low star rating."

"My family of five dined at Kouzu while on vacation. Each of us felt a very strange vibe at Kouzu. We were seated in a corner of the first level by a woman who then took our drink orders. There was only one or two other tables filled. My son ordered a soda—a coke. She said they didn’t serve any soda in the restaurant. Really? So he instead ordered a water. She proceeded to bring a large bottle of water that she opened in front of us. I asked what it was—that he wanted just a tap water in place of the soda they didn’t carry. The server then left the table. Another gentlemen came around and sort of took over. I asked him why they didn’t carry any other drinks except water—he said oh we have lemonade coke, Diet Coke etc. The next strange thing was the menu. They gave us ample time with the menu and when they came to take our order I asked what a certain thing was—he said oh that’s a priz five menu that’s different! This menu has never been passed out to us. This was a sushi restaurant and what is nice—and needed quite honestly—is a rundown of each item as it’s placed on the table, as the majority of us ordered a la carte. This didn’t happen. I will say the food itself was delicious, however, the strange vibe we got coupled with the sizable price tag would deter me from patronizing this restaurant again if given the chance."

"Very unassuming space in terms of atmosphere and accoutrements, but the menu is best explained by the head chef. We did not our know our Nyama Choma from our Ogbono soup so she sat with us and explained the specialties of the house that night. She strongly suggested the Poulet Yassa and Mixed grill. All were cooked lovingly to order in huge portions. The Yassa (chicken with onions and lemon sauce) was amazing. Then she said you had to try Jollof rice! Trust me you do! What a great collection of spices. A side order of fried plaintains (we could hear them hit the oil) was amazing and enough to feed two tables! The food is inexpensive, plentiful and great tasting. What more can you ask for? Yes the wine list is sparse (1 red, 1 white) but there were enough other beverage choices there. Definitely a must visit for an experience and great food!"
