"We used to frequent this bar regularly over the past decade, but this was our first visit since the pandemic because it was my partner's favorite. The atmosphere we were accustomed to was cozy, laid-back, and with friendly service. We didn't have a reservation as it was a spontaneous celebration. Despite being dressed formally, we were scrutinized by the hostess, who seemed to be assessing if we belonged there. As a brown couple, we are familiar with this type of judgment from past experiences at other establishments. After being deemed suitable, we were seated at a table where our waiter provided friendly service. However, we were taken aback by the exorbitant price of £25 per cocktail. The way we were initially treated upon arrival lingered in my mind, and my tolerance for such behavior in this day and age is minimal. Consequently, we decided to leave after one drink. It is disappointing that what used to be a welcoming and pleasant bar now seems to have transformed into another exclusive high-end establishment in London, where customers are made to feel privileged for being allowed in rather than valued for their patronage."
