"I was so excited to eat here after reading good reviews about the chain in coeliac groups; it is still so hard to eat with the family when they have an intolerance towards gluten. the restaurant was not particularly busy when we arrived at 11:40...but immediately our server told us that they were unaffected, not my problem. our party of 4 plus a little was shown on a table and given menus; I had to ask for the gluten-free menu. our soaked order was removed and delivered in time, at which time we ordered our meal. at a visit to the bathroom I asked our server when we could expect our eating as we had waited so long (after the submission that a few other tables had come after us and had been served her eating) she said she would hunt it up. After we had to wait 15 minutes, we realized that the tables had finished their food and paid their bills and went. at this point I went back to talk to our server and told her that I was in half understood to pay and go for our drinks only. our server told me again that they were understaffed and that we were really a big party! They also promised that I had exaggerated the time we had expected, and that "no other came after us into the restaurant"! at this place appeared another server behind me with our eating and I was told by our server's next note, 'they eat is now here, do they want it or not? when I came back to the table, we received Hiumi-Fries with chili and honey dressing I had expressly said no chili, because this is another thing that I cannot tolerate, we did not get any inherited, a part of the chips or the dives we ordered; my daughter informed a member of the staff. the food we received was not hot and altogether underwhelming; the only hot product received the replacement Saaloumiries. it was clear when we ate it that our server talked to the manager and when I received the bill, there was a significant discount plus a 12.5% opt service charge when the server took the payment, she did not ask if I wanted to pay the service fee! in this phase I was too angry and annoyed to bear another confrontation. the bill was paid at 13:12. on the way I thanked the manager for the reduction and said it was appreciated; but do they not understand why he did not come to conversation with us, the customers, about our experience? I'm sorry, bills, you have to do much better than that to get a recommendation from me. Perhaps a better personal training would be a good start. nb they have two reviews because they have a significant discount, but that is the only reason"

"Just because an eatery has built a strong reputation, doesn 't mean it can afford to rest on its laurels. Bill 's restaurant built its reputation on the quality of the food, which in the past has been exemplary, but based on a basic breakfast offering it is apparent something has been lost. My friend and I ordered a Traditional Breakfast and two coffees on Wednesday 3rd January '24. Despite having been asked if we 'd like to start by ordering something to drink, the coffees took longer than the breakfast to arrive and were luke warm by the time we 'd started tucking into the food. This breakfast comprised: 2 eggs rubbery), a halved tomato soggy, looked as if it had been sitting at the bottom of a pan for 3 days and tasteless), rashers of streaky bacon I wonder when these were first cooked as the rashers were dry, hard, cool), some mushrooms hurrah: hot and tasty), a cumberland) sausage OK), 3 half slices of sourdough bread also OK, but we had to request butter). The overall presentation was fair, but nothing like you see in the on line photos and the quality of the food was way below expectation and the plate it was served on was cold. It continues to amaze me that businesses that start small with high quality products, tend to lose their mojo when they expand to become a chain. I suppose people who work there, once familial and caught-up with the energy of something good, end-up just doing a job and appear to have lost sight of the point and purpose of something that was once distinguished by detailed presentation and delightful food, piping hot coffee. The service was both good and bad: despite the place being almost empty when we arrived, a waitress bid us to wait she could have said, 'Go and sit anywhere ' with a smile as there were so many tables available. Instead, she made us feel like we were doing her a favour: rude). The young man who eventually led us to our table and served us was pleasant and helpful, despite leaving the coffee to stand. For this service we did not tip. The decor of Bill 's Brighton was excellent and elements resembled a theatrical set for a steam-punk vision of Dracula, but the food was tasteless and the service toothless, the overall experience lacking bite."
