"Bill's in Oxford is the latest branch of a chain that began on the south coast, in Lewes , with a café that was also a greengrocer's: not much more than a decade on, branches seem to be springing up everywhere. The shop element has been retained, although the fruit and vegetables have become gourmet jams, sweets, beers and other goods that are stacked on tables and shelves throughout the restaurant. Bill's have taken over the Northgate Hall on St Michael's Street, and clearly plenty of cash has been spent on converting this high-ceilinged old building into a shabbily chic, warehouse-style space. Apart from those desserts, the menu is fairly wide-ranging and has a distinctly summery...read more"

we waited for more than 15 minutes to place and the restaurant was empty more than 15 empty tables and we waited for more than 10 minutes to wait for the waitress to take the order. the food was not so expected. I do not recommend the restaurant.

very helpful and friendly staff. always ready to serve. eating is delicious and the price is reasonable. only one warning, a discrete service fee of 10% will be added to their bill, they cannot pay for it. take a look at their dinner set menu, good value for money with a 2 courses or 3 courses to choose from.

bill has a nice atmosphere, but eating is hit and miss. I went to breakfast today and ordered the avocado toast, something I had and enjoyed before. today it was best on average. the eggs were overcooked, and the toast was roasted too long so that the brot was hard. Not great if they pay a bit for their breakfast. View menu

it seems that bills new restaurant in oxford caused mixed transactions; some said it was great, some said style about substance, some complained that it was another chain. Curiosity usually kills the cat, so I hear, but thankful to this occasion said cat was quite tired. bill’s is a retailer, part-deli, part-restaurant; offers everything from breakfast, lunch, dinner and cake, to huge glasses of artichokes, chutneys, cookbooks and linen bags. So they try to be everything to all the men? Maybe, but from what I could see, they have made a decent job...read more

in the past 2 have made very bad experiences at bills: a catastrophic work Christmas celebration and a catastrophic evening meal, in which I ate the worst mac and cheese the world. I decided to brave the place for another shot and it ended the third time luck this time we went to breakfast and stopped at 10:30 a.m. on a Monday morning. I expected the place to be empty, but was surprised to see some tables of people who enjoy the coffee. the atmosphere was relaxed, pleasant and not too busy. so far I have ordered a bill’s breakfast, which included toast, sausage, buzz, fried eggs and tomaten. the portion size was somewhat smaller than a usual English breakfast, but I...more

"I've been going to Oxford for 3 years now and in that time to be frank struggled to find a decent go to restaurant. I can now say with delight i've found my destination. I present SPICED ROOTS a little caribbean culinary gem. The fresh perfectly cooked food is absolutely delicious and gives off that home cooked by mummy vibe and is beautifully presented. The chilli and garlic prawns had my eyes closed Mark Weins style (if you know you know) so juicy with an incredible depth of flavour, the Trini doubles not only were seasoned to perfection they left you wanting more and the Jerk chicken spring rolls were an absolute triumph. For mains we had the ackee and callaloo Jerk Tempah (vegetarian) and the Jerk chicken. Both came with rice peas, plaintain and salad. Not only were the portions huge the flavours of both dishes were just mind blowingly delicious. Then we embarked on dessert and had the beautiful spiced rum cake and a selection of 3 home made ice creams namely Coconut, Guinness and the old Caribbean favourite Rum and Raisin, all recommended by the owner. It's at this point I feel compelled to speak about the rum raisin ice cream. I've eaten this ice cream on numerous occasions at numerous locations in Jamaica over my many years and I tell you no word of a lie this was hands down the best rum and raisin ice cream I've ever tasted, it literally left us speechless. So to summarise, this place has great food, great music, great service and a wonderfully charming owner who's totally invested in serving great, incredibly tasty, authentic Caribbean food clearly prepared with love. What more could you ask for. Fair to say it was meant to be. Uncle Jay."
