"Mixed experience. Had a booking, restaurant still on a Monday afternoon, took 5 minutes for someone to come to us at the desk, and when she did she barely said hello, just looked at us with a scowl. After that sat at table for 15 minutes waiting for someone to eat over. Eventually got order in, waitress didn't even ask if we wanted anything to drink. We were there 30 minutes before we actually got a drink. Not really acceptable in a quiet restaurant, that was closing in less than an hour closes early on a Monday. Food was good when it came, and different waitress by now, who was so much better. So a mixed bag. I know staff difficulties at present, but 10 minutes training in fundamentals would help. As would have someone in charge on the floor to ensure paying customers are being looked after. Poor management from what I saw. Pity, as some of the staff were great, others very poor. "SO disappointing! When we arrived and said we had a table booked, the table was just pointed out to us. We sat down, but no one brought menus or took a drinks order. After at least 20 minutes one of our party queued at the bar, and when it was his turn to be served was told to sit down and someone would come over. Another 15 minutes went past, then my husband stopped a waitress and asked if we could order drinks. He was told very brusquely that someone would come soon. At this point we would have had our drinks if he'd been allowed to order at the bar, but no, another 15 minute wait. Another waitress spotted that we didn't have menus, so finally brought us some. We had booked a table for 6pm as we had young children with us, but it took so long to order food and drinks, we were there much later than planned. I chose sea bream and saute potatoes, but received sea bream and boiled new potatoes, and when I questioned it, someone eventually came back and said they were saute potatoes (like none I've ever seen or would want I left them). I know it was the time of year, but the place was taken over by huge Christmas parties, which was never mentioned when we booked. Our table was in the bar, so we were surrounded by people standing and drinking, and the noise level was unbearable. When I booked, I said it was for a special birthday, and my son even brought a table decoration with us, so it was obvious what we were celebrating, but no one said a thing about it or tried to make our experience special. We felt like an inconvenience, as obviously they only cared about the Christmas parties. Sadly, this is not my first visit to the Falcon Hotel, but it will be my last, especially as having eaten at another restaurant in Bude the night before where the food was superb and we were treated very well. I know where I will eat in the future."

"Worst things first: I think the service could have been a bit better as the waiters weren't so attentive. It was quite difficult to get their attention. Also I asked for lukewarm water as my wife was ill and we were still served chilled water. I asked for the bill to come with the card reader as we were in a rush and the bill still came alone and we had to ask for the card reader again. Other than this the ambience is really really nice. You get a nice view of Canary wharf and although the pillars block the view a bit, I guess those are required to hold the building up haha so it is what it is. Really nice view which every table can appreciate, beautiful interior design my wife referred to it as having a homely feel. I would definitely come back during the day as Im sure it would like marvellous with the sun coming through the full length windows how much better at sunset!! The food was exquisite too. I had eaten beforehand so didn't eat much: just squid rings and the bread selections. Its small but it goes a long way when restaurants heat up the butter so its soft and spreadable on nice warm and soft bread. The squid rings were good too, not too rubbery like many are these days. My wife had a bit more: the cod on mash with caviar (or just roe, not sure) and fries. The fries were so so nice, perfectly salted and fried. The cod and mash was DIVINEEE. Every bite that I stole from her was eye shut inducing. Perfectly cooked cod that tasted like it came from the sea that very morning, one of the creamiest mashed potatoes I've had in a while and then the caviar/roe to add a certain texture to the after taste. Superb. Excellent restaurant, would definitely recommend and not too bad a price as well considering the high class interior and prime location in Canary Wharf."

"I begrudge having to write this review, however I am appalled by the service (or lack of) from the red lion. I’ve tried to contact them several times and have been ignored, which is especially frustrating since the manger replied to a review a few days ago. We made a booking of 20+ for my partner’s birthday in June. Although the food was lovely, the service was not. Firstly, we were left waiting a while for the food even though it was preordered. Secondly, each person had to go to the bar to order drinks as staff did not take orders from the table even though it was on one tab. They were clearly understaffed on the night, considering the size of our party. Thirdly, there was an issue with the preorder of desserts and some people did not receive a dessert and were not informed until the rest of the group had theirs. The lady dealing with this was also quite rude and did not offer a resolution. Finally, there was a dispute about the bill and I’ve emailed the manager several times as some items cannot be attributed to anyone in the party but have not received a response. Emails were sent on 28/06, 03/07 and 15/07. It really is a shame as we’ve been here before and enjoyed the food, but it is safe to say that none of the party will be returning and the customer service received is unsatisfactory. Again, I would have been happy to resolve this but feel forced to write a review due to the lack of response."
