"The food was excellent on both visits, though I did encounter a problem with the mushrooms in the mushroom sauce that accompanied the chicken supreme—they were quite tough, and I ended up leaving them on my plate. My only other observation about the food is that the menu hasn't changed in the past year and could use some more variety.
The service was generally good. Both times we had just one person working in the front, who also served as the receptionist since it’s a hotel. Each time we dined at 7 PM, we were the only customers in the restaurant. However, the staff member often had to step away for 10-15 minutes to attend to hotel matters, which resulted in some delays in ordering drinks. I can only imagine how it would have been if there had been more guests. The staff member this time was new to the role and a bit slower, but on my previous visit, the service was prompt even with just one person on duty.
The building itself is fascinating, dating back to the 13th century, with additions made over the last 400-500 years. There's some scaffolding in the bar area to support a beam, but overall, it’s impressive how well the structure has been preserved. Last year, the receptionist gave us a "guided tour" and provided detailed information about the history of the place. This time, we had forgotten much of it, and our new server wasn’t quite as knowledgeable. However, he clearly had learned a lot in his four weeks on the job.
Overall, it might be considered slightly overpriced, but I plan to return next year."
