"Parts of Steak work really well. The service is great, it looks really classy and the ambiance is fine, albeit a bit quiet on a Friday night. The wine list is also good and not hugely expensive. But, let’s talk food. Firstly starters. If you’re like me and sensitive to chilli and lemongrass you might go quite hungry. Reasonable if you’re in a Thai restaurant but less expected in an upmarket steakhouse. So we didn’t have starters and had olives and bread instead which were lovely. Onto mains and this is where we hit a significant problem. So, this restaurant is called Steak. So, you’d assume they’d know how to cook it, right? Unfortunately not. We both ordered fillet medium rare and it was medium, bordering on well done. Brown all the way through with a hint of pink in the very middle. Given that it was nearly £40 per dish I politely sent it back. The next ones to arrive were rare to the point of blue. Actually the meat itself was beautiful (cooking it well done was a crime) and I like my steak more rare than cooked so I really enjoyed it. But again, it definitely wasn’t medium rare. Overall it was…..meh. Some good, some not so good. Shout out to the lovely front of house folk you were great! But, if you’re expecting perfectly cooked steak from Steak you could be disappointed. Which, frankly, is a bit odd."
