"We enjoyed the pre-theater menu with a discount voucher at this restaurant. The staff and service were excellent, and we particularly liked the swordfish and burgers with sweet potatoes. However, my plum crispy pudding was delicious but my friend's chocolate brownie was very dry and she couldn't eat it. We informed the waiter about the issue, but the brownie was still included in the bill. Overall, I don't think I would return unless there was a discount, as the prices are quite high. Nonetheless, the restaurant is located in a popular summer town."

"Although we arrived early for dinner with our dog, we were told we couldn't sit in the restaurant due to the dog, which was somewhat frustrating. Instead, we had to sit at the high tables in the bar area. On the positive side, the carvery was excellent. We had a good night's sleep, although the room was quite warm initially. The shower was easy to use and had great water pressure, but I would suggest placing the soap in a more accessible spot. We woke up early, and the gentleman who prepared our breakfast was friendly and did a fantastic job. Overall, this place has a great atmosphere and wonderful dining options, and I would definitely recommend it."

"Awful. Miserable service. Flat beer. Chewy calamari in a tasteless sauce. Soggy truffle fries. Overcooked hamburger. Thank God they were out of steak, God only knows what that would have been like! And that was of their main course menu! They never brought out the spinach, but tried to charge us. Nothing American about it"

"Went there because Condi Nast listed it in its top 50 restaurants in London. It's located near St Pancras Station and so was conveniently located for me. The food was good but nothing special: the crab salad consisted of a quenelle of minced crab, with a piece of toast and some dill cucumbers. I had the poached trout for the main course with French fries. The fish was bland though cooked well. I then waited for a waiter to show me the dessert menu. No-one offered and the restaurant was not full. I had to ask a waiter for some tea and again had to ask another waiter who walked by for the bill. The price was reasonable but I would not rush there again."

"My husband and I decided to visit the Oxford Street Kitchen at The Chequers Hotel during the Eat Out to Help Out period. Although we initially booked it as a backup, we were pleasantly surprised by the experience. The Covid precautions, staff service, food quality - everything was top-notch. We never considered dining at a hotel before, but we were glad we gave it a try. This restaurant is definitely a great addition to our list of local dining spots."

"somewhat disappointing. the pizza oven did not work, about which we had already told us to give us the choice to go elsewhere, as this wiped off the half of the menu. the service was shy. After we sat on our table 5 minutes later, we were accused of sitting somewhere by the same person, we should not be because we had not booked what we had. we found that eating itself okay, but a bit boring and overpriced."

"We arrived and was checked in on the computer pad and told we would be at table 4. All good, we wasn’t shown a menu but asked if we were ready to order. As it was we only wanted a carvery, but it wasn’t that busy and it was a little disjointed. However didn’t spoil the lovely food and the waiting staff were attentative thereafter. Also fancied a pud but the apraxia were all gone and the dessert menu needs a bit more temptation. Enjoyed the food, very good carvery, worth the money, would have spent more if the puss were more captivating. Worth a visit. Will be coming again. Thanks."

"We decided to have a last-minute dinner at this restaurant. The crab pops were delicious, as well as the seaweed and the tofu burgers."

"Flawless, unique, romantic and unforgettable fine dining experience. Ambience and atmosphere set perfectly with the lantern lit walkway leading down into the secret garden. You could literally feel the history of where you were, which is something we love about the City as a whole. Staff were perfectly attentive and incredibly welcoming throughout. We were never made to feel rushed between courses at any point quite the opposite. The staff asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. It was my 36th birthday and the staff kindly arranged for a special birthday plate with a candle during pudding, which took me by surprise. It was a subtle, yet incredibly thoughtful gesture which definitely added to the experience. The staff even offered to arrange a taxi for us at the end of the meal and updated us when it was outside, as opposed to having us wait outside. It's small but important gestures such as these that really stick. The food, where to start? We've eaten in plenty fine dining restaurants on our travels but nothing has come close to the perfection of this meal, without a word of exaggeration. The flavours were on another level and the presentation, flawless. Worth every penny and more. Thank you for helping us create lasting memories. Kyle Stacey x"

"her mantra, piccolo e bello' translated too small is beautiful. the place is tiny, but the wine list is extensive and the menu is decent. the antipasto board was a pleasant sharer and had some of the freshest meat I saw in the laundry boards. sat for the homemade pasta with crab and was pleasantly surprised to see a smear of crab fat (a delicate that needs to be exposed more.) the rib eyes were well cooked, even though seemingly smaller than the promised 10oz. came with some of the most beautiful chips that I had in a dae (crispy outside, fluffy inside.) dessert for the chocolate brew it was not very important because it was lacking taste. overall a decent small place to do a bit when tied up a bit...read more"

"Lovely place to stay, right on the high street and 11 min drive to Highclere (Downton . Hotel is as expected old, has creaky and wonky floors which us expected but adds to the charm of the historic place. Inside it has been made to look modern and have all the mod cons. Charming bar area and separate dining area. The food was divine, a nice selection on the menu. Also a secret lit up garden out the back to sit on a warm day or evening. Sofas inside are lived in and some carpets but again adds to the charm of the hotel. Depending on the room you book the sizes vary. I had a single bed, large room for one, tv. Hangers in the wardrobe. Tea and coffee and plenty of milk. Bathroom is divine. Shower and bath and BIG fluffy white towels that go all the way around your body lol The staff are very friendly and accommodating. George head of maintenance checked something out for my parents and came found us to tell us all sorted and we ended up having a very interesting chat about his life etc. Martin on bar/dinner service so polite, nothing was to much trouble and very smiley. However the other girl on dinner service and the lady on reception (at 6.30pm on 14th aug also very lovely and helpful. I would recommended staying at this charming hotel"

"Amazing food and service received tonight. 3 courses for £22.95, brilliant value for the portion sizes received and great selection even though they are currently operating on a reduced menu under the current circumstances. A lovely relaxed atmosphere for our date night. The safety measures in place were reassuring with robust processes in place to ensure everyone’s safety. Taking temperatures on arrival, easy to follow social distancing measures and thorough cleaning was witnessed. Thank you for such a perfect evening under the current challenging times"
