"We had a disappointing experience at Pecking Order at the Hive. The service was lacking, with only one waiter trying to attend to all the customers. Our food ended up cold as the waiter was distracted by the football game. The menu was limited to just a few items, which was a huge disappointment compared to previous visits to the Stanmore Branch. The quality of the food was mediocre and not what we were used to. Additionally, we discovered that the chicken served at Pecking Order was the same as at Starbucks next door, which was disappointing. Overall, the experience was shocking and we do not recommend dining at this location."

"This charming traditional country pub has ample parking available. We made a reservation for dinner on a Sunday night, and although we were the only diners, the pub area was quite lively. The dining space is completely separate from the pub/bar area, ensuring that all social distancing measures are properly followed. It was clean, and the service was prompt and attentive. The fish and chips we ordered were delicious. While the selection of fruit juices was somewhat limited, the owners were very accommodating. The music created a pleasant atmosphere, though it was a bit loud, it didn't detract from our experience. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience during these challenging times when many establishments are struggling to stay open."

"Thursday is always a busy night for us... Scouts for my Son and Cheerleading for my daughter. It was going to be later than usual last week so we ordered through Deliveroo to arrive when we got home from our respective taxi duties. It all arrived fine but the food was raw to the extent a good vet could have got it going again. They tried to blame Deliveroo for picking it up at the wrong restaurant first before then saying that the marinade sometimes makes it look undercooked. I would heartily recommend that you give it a wide berth. You'd be safer eating from the bins out the back of McDonald's... At least they cook it."

"Despite having only one waiter working, he did his best to attend to all customers. The personal service provided by the waiter was excellent, but the overall dining experience was lacking as his attention was divided after the football match ended. This resulted in our food becoming cold as it sat waiting to be picked up. We brought this to the waiter's attention and received an apology, but no solution was offered to warm up the food. The menu was disappointing compared to previous visits to the Stanmore Branch, where the customer service and food quality were excellent. On a previous visit to Pecking Order at the Hive, the chef had to leave early due to an emergency, so the waiter or manager ended up cooking our food, limiting our options to only fried foods instead of their signature rotisserie chicken. We ended up enjoying the chicken and waffles, but it wasn't what we had initially wanted to order. The menu only offered four items: half chicken, burger or veggie burger, fries, and rice, which was a letdown in terms of variety and portion size. To top it off, we discovered that the same chicken served at Starbucks next door was also served at Pecking Order, which was a disappointment and raised questions about the restaurant's practices. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and I would not recommend it."

"Lunchtime Indian seemed a good idea after a good walk in the morning, rather tired surroundings but decided to give it a go since you cannot always judge the quality of the food by the surroundings, however I was quite wrong. The vegetarian platter was 2 x samosa’s and a load of onion bhajis, technically a mix but far below what you would typically expect. The salad accompanying it was obviously in mourning for the summer having passed and seemed about as depressed by the decor than we were. The mains came with all the flair of a wet flannel. Soggy rice masquerading as pilau, mains ok but tasted as if the gravy came out of a bottle. Wife liked her vegetables so some consolation. The naan seemed more like a paratha and certainly had never seen the inside of a tandoor. If you love Indian food, steer well clear, it does not taste like the chef does!"

"We arrived for our 6:30 PM reservation and were greeted at the door, only to find out that they weren't serving food because the chef had already left for the night. When we questioned why they had accepted our booking, they claimed to have no knowledge of it or the OpenTable app. This was extremely disappointing behavior. Don't bother going to this restaurant."

"average eating, not very well presented my steak was just the steak and French pommes on plate, did not see very appetit. had to ask and pay for one of them who, when it came, was only a lot of salat red wobbles and tomaten. some homemade chips would be better than thin white pommes. choc fudge brownie was good and beginner ok. chicken fajitas good and beautiful homemade cakes. very quiet for a sat and that has not borrowed to a great atmosphere, although great if they want to chat. if she seems to go for the set menu as if a little less effort goes into the food. is rushed back as more beautiful places to eat in york. the service was ok."

"We popped in for a late lunch on Friday 29th September after a long walk along the River Wye. Jess was great from start to finish happy, smiley and couldn't do enough to help! She gave our dog a lot of attention and even brought him over a bowl of water, which was a really nice touch. The food was delicious, the pub was cosy and nicely decorated, and the service was great. "well located next to the minster. to a warm reception of fran, who showed us in our room and shared us with us. beautiful room. beautiful clean bed linen and towels. tee and coffee as well as 2 bottle water and a few kitkats. had a shader for a late lunch that was beautiful. large beer garden with a huge pavillon so in the position to sit even if there was a little rain. good choice of beer and some great gins. very comfortable bed, a candy shower and a really good, well cooked breakfast next morning. fran was a star through and was great craic. really good value for money. I come back to york in november and I will book here instead of the previous place I have reserved. Thank you. clare and mel xx"

"We first came to the Store a few years ago, and fell greedily upon their perfect home made soup and toasties. Today was a leisurely lunch kind of day, so we decided to kick back and share the seafood platter for two. What a good choice! Spanking fresh, fabulously prepared, lots to go at. The herring was great, nice and strong on the dill. Oodles of little pink prawns, sweet and salty; generous slices of smoked salmon, and perfect smoky nackerel paté. Good bread and splendid salad, with extra points for a smashing slaw. This was plenty enough gor two, but we're greedy hogs and had a bowl of chips, too. All washed down with lashings of hot, strong tea in a proper Brown Betty tea pot, too. This place absolutely deserves to thrive; it's a glorious addition to its community, and treats the NC500 tourists fairly and with warmth and hospitality. Maybe leave room for stunning cakes, and perhaps splash out on a bottle of local Ice and Fire gin..."
