"Sakonis offers Indian vegetarian food with some Indo Chinese options and is located on Ealing Road, now for quite some time a predominantly Gujarati area of London, with its menu largely reflecting its local customer base. The restaurant is relatively large and this was our second visit in as many months. Last month we were able to walk in and dine without a reservation but this time we had a reservation for the six of us, which was a wise decision because there were queues at times that we observed. While the buffet seemed extremely popular (especially for the soft ice cream! and our server encouraged us to avail of the buffet, not unsurprisingly, we opted for a la carte a decision that we did not regret. The Sakonis website is very modern and loads quickly, offering modern and well taken photographs of some of the dishes. The mogo chips were one of the starters that we ordered and were well made, a little crispy around the edges, soft in the middle, with a spicy sauce that was right at the cusp. We also ordered the palak paneer and the paneer butter masala, both of which were excellent. Of the two I would say that the latter was a little more flavoursome a surprise since I love spinach perhaps the palak paneer could have been a little more spicy. But the star of the show was surely the bathuras that came with those particular large plates (options also included naan and puri . In fact they were so popular with our group that we ordered an additional four and although they took rather long to arrive, when we compared our fresh, hot bathuras that lingered on the buffet table getting cold, we were sure that we had made the right decision. We also ordered a hakka noodles but that was rather insipid both in look and taste although we could see plenty of diners ordering the Indo Chinese dishes. The masala tea was just alright not nearly as good as Dishoom's for example, but the inclusion of a Parle G biscuit is a cute touch. Service was great even if the late order of bathuras was rather slow. Ria was particularly helpful. We plan to visit again in the summer."

"Edited previous 5 star review due to being under new management. Jan 24. I wasn’t going to leave a review however I responded to a friend with an honest account of my experience last night on one of the pubs Facebook posts and they deleted the comment. I feel it’s only right that negative comments are seen as well as the positive. The food was beautiful, I can’t fault it however… We had a table for 2 booked for 7pm, we arrived at the same time as another table for 2 who also booked for 7pm and we were met with “Sorry there aren’t any tables at the moment would you mind waiting” We ordered a drink and waited to then be told by another member of staff “There aren’t any tables” and “There’s not a lot I can do about it at the moment” In hindsight we should have left at this point but didn’t, we got seated at around 7.30 and only because I suggested they move a table as a table for 2 were sat at a table for 4 of 2 tables pushed together. We were meant to be table of 3 but my mum was unwell and it’s a good job because she wouldn’t have fit at the table lol. We were then left with no offer of a menu, and ended up getting our own cutlery. In the end we were given one menu to share between us.. and the other table that came in at the same time as us also had to share our menu. When someone finally came to take our order we had been there near on an hour. During the experience I received the wrong drink, the wrong curry and one poppadom between 2 of us.. we had to ask for the other one. I do want to stress that the food is absolutely wonderful however the whole ordeal left me stressed when it was meant to be a relaxing evening. We did voice our concerns and I didn’t accept the offer to change my curry as we had already waited far too long and it was getting late but I was incredibly disappointed. We also turned down a free drink because this wasn’t offered until the very end and after 15/20 minutes of waiting for the card machine to work and to be honest we were ready to leave a long time before that so didn’t want to stay. Also I’m not sure if they have a dessert menu as this was never offered… The 2 women next to us had an even worse experience. I had to ask for their poppadoms for them and when their food eventually came to the table they had their starters and mains arrive together with no plates or cutlery. Once the busy period died down another table of around 6 men joined and they got their food before them! The excuse given at the time was “it was extremely busy” and it turned out they had given the tables away to walk ins. This to me is an unacceptable excuse and the only reason we stayed was to give it a chance and it was too late notice to book somewhere else. The experience we had means we won’t be returning for food which is a great shame because it is delicious and it’s one’s of our locals. I am only sharing my experience because the pub is deleting comments on social media and I think it’s only fair people are able to see a true reflection of the pub and are not tricked in to thinking this is a 10/10 restaurant/pub because it’s far from it (I really didn’t want that to be my opinion but I have to be honest)"

"I used to visit this place regularly when it was number 1 in Sandy but haven't been for a while. My wife is not very keen on spicy food so frequently I visit restaurants solo and what is it that restaurants seem to have about people eating alone even at quiet times? A few months ago I entered on a Sunday lunchtime after 1pm and was told it was not yet open despite it being advertised as such. Today I went for the Sunday buffet. I was not offered any poppadums despite knowing that they are extras. The food was OK but not spicy enough for my liking. The only waiter disappeared for virtually the whole of the time so was not available to ask for more drinks. He was more interested in waiting for the arrival of a party group. I was also alarmed by the number of spiders webs visible near the roof of the conservatory and spent most of my time watching a large spider in the centre of one of them! These could easily fall into diners food. When the party arrived a member of the kitchen staff helped seat them dressed in tracksuit bottoms and trainers. They asked for a certain bottle of wine and he never even knew what it was or realised it was on their list. At the end of my meal I asked for a coffee (or tea) and basically the waiter commented that he was too busy/couldn't be bothered to make any. Not a pleasant experience. Will not be returning in a hurry which is a shame as previously enjoyed meals there."
