"they can or do not know that a few weeks back we ran a competition to win a meal and drinks for two in the sterling bar. our Twitter account went almost to melt in retweet. So we thought we should visit better to see what was going on with all the fighting – well, it would be rude, not! This stylish city bar sits at the foot of the gherkin st mary axe, one of the most famous and iconic buildings of londons, maybe this was the reason for all our competitive entries? we are past from the gherkin, either by bus or to foot, 100s of the times, but it is not until they are near that they can see how beautiful a building it really is. saff could not make it to the sterling other work obligations) so I have the help of my old art directors and good friend, sam to test their menu and impressive drinks list. I arrived a little late. fortunately, sam had already taken place by the friendly staff and was happy to snap away on their iphone and posing their pictures on their social media pages. decor at the sterling is quite typical of a city bar, they think of drake and morgan businesses torn down and they are not far wrong. there is a light colonial explorer theme, old black and white photos, small nic-nacs here and there a large green roller shutters hanging on the wall. the bar area is divided into three areas. the actual cash, a section for more casual eating and a counter on the back, which is probably used for busy lunch. there is also an area in the upper floor, called the library, with bookcase wallpaper. we ate out of the bar menu, a selection of sharing sweet, small dishes, burger and grilled sandwiches – perfect for the selection when drinking and chatting and believe me when sam and I start chatting, there are no stops us. while we waited for the “Kissen” to arrive, we chose a few cocktails. I am a sucker for limincello, so when I saw the ginchello £8, I knew it was for me – a long refreshing mix of gin, limoncello obvious,) red johannisbeerensirup, lychee purée and prosecco. sam ordered a classic cosmopolitan £7.50,) she said it was a "good and she should know she had enough of them! we spread our order net far beyond their menu, we wanted to try a little of everything except the burger and sandwiches.) first the charcuterie and cheeseboard £19.) was a selection of their most popular meat and cheese varieties with crispy grissini, crostini and halkidiki oliven. loved the Spanish meats especially the dense deep red fennel cut cut ham. there were four different types of cheese and all a decent portion size, our favorites were the tanger oxford blue and the somego – although the ripe cheddar was great with the tanger chutney. the hot chicken wings £5,) were unusual. well unusual, not strange unusual. the “hot” part must relate to its temperature, as they were not spicy in the least. but what they had was an amazingly crispy, nutty coating – possibly my favourite dish. sam ordered the peanut butter, kokosnuss, lemongrass and green chili chicken skewers £5.50 for three.) these were served with watercress and a cool alkyoghurt dressing, all aromen fought for dominance, but the kokosnuss was victorious. at the strange opportunity when saff and I dive into polpo, we always order a few of their pizzettes – small sour pizzas, simply big enough for a snack. the hand pulled pizzettas by sterling were much bigger and made us both feel a little greedy for ordering on everyone – how to have been big enough to share. these freshly made, hand-pizzettas are decorated with Italian tomato sauce and mozzarella. mine also had spicy chorizo and a generous scatter of guindilla and piquillo paprika. during sams in the melt in the mouth was lubricated prosciutto san daniele and halkidiki olives. this Mammut festival was all washed with an incredible New Zealand dashwood pinot noir £35.) her house red starts at a very reasonable £15.50 the three hours spent sam and I in the dying, just flew past, a safe sign that everything should be. the bar was quite quiet, but we said that the noise factor rose on Thursday/Friday when the city workers come out to play. when it was, we could scatter all night without screaming. perfect business thanks to sam,) great cocktails, surprisingly well prepared eating and excellent service – all at the foot of one of the most famous buildings of london. a sterling effort!"

"I was so looking forward to this big night out and have to say I was left very dissapointed. On arrival at the door I was handed two flyers for buy one drink get one free. This was at 1925. After struggling to find your restaurant in the darkness I was greeted by a staff member and shown to a large booth. There was a large party on a Christmas night out occupying the length of the room. It took 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive as it seemed to take 5 staff members to serve this table of 30! We were then handed our menu which compared to the online menu was reduced considerably much to our dissapointment. Your website mentions no alterations during December. We chose our food and the starters arrived relatively quickly. After our initial dissapointment at the poor service it was somewhat redeemed by a gift bag containing a Christmas card, sweets and more drinks vouchers. We ordered 3 drinks each (expensive cocktails) pleased with our vouchers that we were only paying for 3 of the 6. On trying to redeem these I was then informed the promtion finished at 1900 note I was at a 1930 dinner reservation!! Not at 2100 as advertised on the vouchers. I was then informed by the surly girl that Tiger Tiger have the right to remove or alter these promotions at any time. Nicely done legal eagle!! Overall. Totally gutted. My nice mother daughter Newcastle trip that we saved so hard for was ruined. Not even a genuine apology from anyone. I wont be back. Oh and your toilets are disgusting!!!"

"Absolutely disaster! Got there table was ready, then asked for menu's to be told no we couldn't have food, although they was advertising food, As we booked with open table not the club itself. After complaining, they allowed us to have food, which was very nice, we all enjoyed. My friend went to the bar for conqtour they had put triple sec in the bottle so it's wasn't the real liquor. Which when complained they gave her a refund. We'd just ate our food, we was asked to leave the table as it was booked out for another party. With in the 2 hours we was there we'd roughly spent between us about £500. I asked for the manager, her Name was Nicola, I showed her the email, which it never stated I only had the table for a few hours, she blamed open table, not putting in they email. She wasn't sorry at all, club was quite she didn't offer us any other tables, absolutely ruined my birthday, that's what we was out for, made us so un welcome towards the end, because we complained. Also the was no draught pumps working they was charging over £5 for a bottle lager, which was half pint. Said the wasn't having them fixed either. The club is absolute joke! I would never return there again. Management is waste time, need to go on customer service course, how to run a business. I'm a Manager in retail, run quite a few stores, if I had treated any customer like this, I would be looking for a new job, so unprofessional, o hope you take my comments on board. Thanks, Nicola Croom"

"After a lovely day, we just had the worst meal we've had in Liverpool. Avoid Rosa's Thai on Albert Dock. We went in because the menu looked good and the restaurant was obviously popular. It was packed. We soon found the two kitchen staff, and two waiting staff plus manager were catering for a full restaurant, a private party upstairs, and takeaway orders. This explains the terrible service but not the bad food or appalling attitudes. Steve's beef massaman had a nice sauce but inedibly tough meat and tough potatoes. Even the sliced onions were semi-crunchy rather than tender. My crispy chicken with garlic rice was edible despite being almost cold so we shared that. My roti was so greasy it stuck together in a solid mass in its paper sleeve. The couple on the next table were there when we arrived and had ordered. The table on their other side was filled just after ours. The table on their other side got their food before us. I could see ours sitting under the heat lamps waiting to be served with theirs, and it showed up soon after. The first couple's didn't. As we were eating, a waitress came and asked if they wanted the bill so they told her they wanted their food. She immediately spoke to the manager who did nothing. After another few minutes Steve spoke to the manager who not only did nothing, but walked way without answering him. They left without being served and without an apology. We told the manager how unhappy we were and she removed the beef massaman from our bill. She offered to refund the service charge but walked away without doing so. She did not apologise for anything, but spoke to us in the manner of a robot who was just too busy to turn on the empathy circuit, or indeed the customer service programme. I understand completely that she and the staff were overwhelmed. There's no excuse for making that the customers' problem, or for a classic slow-cooked Thai dish to taste as if it were hastily assembled from leftovers and not given long enough in the microwave. Even a minimal apology could have helped mollify everyone, but it wasn't on offer. So if you want a good meal in Liverpool there are lots of places. Unfortunately Rosa's Thai on Albert Dock is not one of them."

"We were served relatively promptly (about 10 minutes or so) and we ordered our drinks and food at the same time on Saturday 27th October at approximately 7:15 pm. Our starters arrived quickly, but our drinks had been left on the bar with no one bringing them to the table so we asked for them to be brought over. When we finished our starters and waiting for our mains to arrive, a waitress asked us if we had eaten our main course, to which we replied we were still waiting. It arrived soon later and then when we were halfway through, the table next to us were halfway through their desserts when the same waitress who served us told them that when they had finished they were to come up to the bar and pay. She then looked at our table, clearly able to see that we had only just started our mains and said 'the same for you guys '. I thought this was appaling service and extremely rude as we may have wanted to see the dessert menu. We weren 't checked on throughout our meal, nor were we offered other drinks so my Dad was forced to asked someone as they were passing. When the table next to us left, the waitress was sanitising the table, but clearly not taking care as she sprayed it all over my mother 's meal without even apologising or seeming to notice. My Dad order the jerk chicken burrito which is wrongly described as jerk chicken is usually a spicy/tomato based marinade whereas he received chicken with a cream/herb coating. When we were cleared of our mains, we asked to see the dessert menu but we were so disappointed by the service we had received we decided not to stay. The food was nice, but the service was appaling and we will not be returning again."
