"The kitchen staff at this restaurant does excellent work, producing delicious food. However, there is some laziness among the junior staff."

"I've visited the restaurant a few times and I'm never disappointed with eating. but like someone who is quite regular there, it would be nice if they introduced new starter and main course dishes, as I had quite a lot of the food card now and it would be great to try something else. I also don't know if they have changed the table sizes, but they seem to be smaller, and there was a bit of a jugging act to have the popadomen, the tablet of the seasoned, our drinks and two starters on the table at the same time! Apart from that, it was great to see the restaurant almost completely, and there was a big **** and atmosphere in it."

"Wow what a disappointment clearly all fake reviews or people that eat out of a bin on a daily the chicken tikka masala was awful no flavour just pure spice sp bland the chips was rubber the poppadoms was all crushed in a bag and wasn't fresh near enough stale the chicken wasn't good quality either and the chicken tikka starter was just spicey af chicken pieces chicken tikka should never be that spicey I like spicey food if it has flavour because that's the whole point of spice to bring out the flavour but the flavour was non existent I'd recommend next time someone orders to just ask for pure chilli extract and some rice seriously and the price of this place is a joke for the portion size you get there size of everything is tiny 12.99 for a flavourless chilli extract masala is laughable learn to cook you do not deserve the rating you have and I wish you nothing but bad business here on out. Merry Christmas. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1"

"Glad we tried the restaurant, unfortunately it was not as good as our favourite restaurant of this type. Menu was limited to what we are used to, the food we ordered was nice but again not up to the same standard as we are accustomed."

"Last night I ate at the south bank tandoori with a friend who is dad, recommend the restaurant. we went to a impulsive decision after we decided that we felt too lazy to make our own dinner, so we decided to spend money that we had not, oh student life! we arrived at the very full restaurant and managed to get a table for two immediately. it was jam, a good sign for promising eating. we had a series of options on the menu from which we chose a selection. they have taken the ones to my friend a kartoffel corma rather than chickens (as it is vegetarian) very nicely. the service was a little strange, they explained that they were understaffed, but the team of the staff...read more"

"We had to change our reservation from pre-theatre to after theatre, which was accomodated without any issues. We did not realise just how long we had spent dining but were not rushed at all by the staff either who stayed after closing time. Our gluten free vegetarian dietary requirements were catered for not only from the menu but also on recommendation from the chef preparing a special dish of stuffed pepper. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will return if ever in the Colchester area again. They are also part of the Meerkat system which is the only reason that we found this restaurant and only goes to show that you can choose to go somewhere in a different town based on that network of choices as well. Excellent"

"Very reasonably priced, some of the best Indian food in the area. We order takeaway regularly and its always really good. Their chasni is a amazing. Eating in is a great experience too, very welcoming and cosy, well kept place. Very efficient with service and the foods always great. My favourite Indian in town by far."

"Possibly the worst curry that we've had anywhere. A group of us visited the Gurkha for Sunday Buffet night at around 20:30. The restaurant was happy to accept our booking but failed to tell us that the buffet dishes were mostly empty with just sauce remaining. The service staff member was lazy reluctant to replenish the trays which took constant requests. When they were eventually replenished with meagre portions we were not being advised at the table, this meant by the time we realised the food had been taken by other customers. Whilst the sauce tasted ok the meat was not good at all, very dry very chewy, one couldn't help thinking that this may of been old re heated, It really wasn't good. We're all curry lovers however none of us enjoyed our visit to the Gurkha won't be returning."

"The food is great but giving it one star for the service, the waiter serving us made us feel really uncomfortable and unwelcome. Not too sure if he had a bad day at home but if I am paying a premier price for the food in an otherwise grim looming restaurant I expect basic courtesy from the staff, good food is not enough. We were told our table was booked after 9PM and will need to leave by 845PM. While ordering desert at 8PM he started looking at his watch. On asking the portion sizes for ordering the right amount the answer was a plain and rude “I can’t tell you that”. It was a very odd experience and I am certainly not stepping foot in that restaurant again. All in all, my experience was bad due to one bad egg, if you are reading this I would say the food was really good and I had been there before, but that certainly was my last trip."

"I have used this curry house for over a year has always been nice the last 2 times I have ordered it wasn’t great lacked flavour but I gave them the benefit of the doubt as I have never had a problem before and decided to give then one last try. Ordered a takeaway this evening, I would say it was the worst takeaway I have ever had, this is the first time I have ever wrote a review! Waited over an hour for the curry and it turned up stone cold, rang them they said there would be a new one coming in 15 mins, they exchanged the cold one for the new one and its was even more cold than the first !! The chicken tikka masala was freezing no flavour and was soo watery the water was swimming round my plate and the chicken so dry and chewy. I threw it all away. Would never ever in a million years order from this place again."

"Slightly disappointed with the service, the first waiter who tried to serve was so rude as kept interrupting when we had told we will inform once we are ready to order. The 2nd one took the order; after waiting for 20 mins after 1 starter was server, we asked about bhel, was told that he forgot to place the order for that. The bhel when it came was so disappointing, didnt deserve the price tag. Food has deteriorated vs the past, I used to be quite regular and Manjal was one of my favourites. Overall disappointed."

"I had some of the dishes on this vegan menu and they were all really good, appetizer and net. I recommend the aubergine. the employees in this restaurant are always so friendly and chatting for me! the owner told us he was inspired to create a vegan menu from his sister who is vegan. this place costs definitiw much more than they expect, especially given the amount of cheap Indian food they can get in london."

"Jojolapa is the first Nepalese restaurant in Birmingham, located on Newhall Street. In a city well known for the cuisine of Nepal’s much more famous South Asian neighbour, the restaurant has held its own with discerning diners, so it was high time we tried it ourselves. Atmosphere There’s a buzzy vibrance to the place which contrasts fabulously with the moody low lit interior, dark wood furnishings and carvings. We saw relaxed diners enjoying drinks at the bar as they waited to be seated. Jojolapa has the ‘perfect night out’ atmosphere nailed. food Steamed momo chicken dumplings with mint and coriander sauce and Nepalese tomato sauce, chatamari (Nepalese pancake stuffed with vegetables and fried egg) and momo soup (chicken dimsum broth with noodles) were moreish starters. I was disappointed that the East Asian flavour to our meal pretty much ended there. There were very few main choices that I hadn’t eaten in an Indian restaurant. I opted for one of the noted Nepalese dishes special fish curry with nepalese spices. My guest plumped for the old faithful lamb rogan josh. Both were nice enough but I yearned for more of the starters. The kulfi ice cream was a delicious end to the meal. drinks There is a very respectable wine menu but Jojolapa is the natural home for cocktail lovers. The yummy jojolapa cocktail – black vodka, midori and cranberry juice marked the start of the evening in style and Jojolapa’s twist on the mango lassi served with vodka and orange liquer was gorgeous. overall There are plenty of Indian restaurants in Birmingham that boast similar dishes. But many of these restaurants can only dream of achieving Jojolapa’s cosmopolitan and sexy vibe seductively teamed with a friendly and super efficient service."
