"I’ve visited Issho many times before and it’s always somewhere I take friends who are visiting from out of town. We have always really enjoyed the food and ambience there. It was a special occasion tonight so my fiancé and I attended just the two of us. Being tapas style dining we are used to them bringing things out as and when it’s ready- but the wait time between all the dishes was so so so long and it was literally one dish coming at a time so we never ate a single one together. We waited a while for all the food and our drinks came even after the food did. I’m also 9 months pregnant at the moment and asked for some water while we waited which never came- we had to ask again for it. This happened with one or two things we had asked for for the table as well. I was still hungry after everything we had ordered had come as by this point we had been seated 2 hours and the food (just 3 small tapas dishes) had all been so spaced out I didn’t feel like I’d really eaten, we decided to stick at it and try and order some more and a dessert atleast- but honestly so long went by without a single person paying attention to our table or even seeing us try to make eye contact that we decided to just go. Even asking for the bill took forever and it honestly seemed like an inconvenience to the server that we needed service/help. Over 2 hours and £100 later for a few small dishes and mocktails. Just a really disappointing experience from a restaurant I have recommended to so many people in the past. The food is always wonderful but it’s hard to enjoy with service so poor like that. I’m never one to complain either, I’ve worked in restaurants myself and always have empathy and understanding during busy periods, but it was very very poor tonight."

"I don’t ever write reviews, however our experience was so terrible I felt like this message needed to be shared. We made a booking for 10 people, but when we arrived we were told to that we can stand at a table for 3 people while we wait for seats to open. I asked “what’s the point in making a booking, if you don’t get a table?” And the barman said that we reserve an area to stand. ? I have no idea why anyone would subject themselves to doing this. My friends and I resigned to getting a drink then searching for another place. We stood at the front of the bar for 20 min before anyone could take our order. When we eventually got someone’s attention, it took a further 45min for us to received our 4 cocktails. Furthermore, when we said we wanted to have a table so that we could eat, we were bluntly told that they don’t serve food. Why have a menu on your website then? We were not the only poor souls who made the mistake of walking into this establishment on this night. As we were standing by the staircase, we heard many people come in and explain that they have a booking, just to be told the same thing as us. The bar was quickly filling up and and considering how long our service took, I’m glad that we left when we did Worst experience ever. I would love for this message to be sent far and wide, to warn others not to make the same mistake we did."

"Booked a table for a special night in London with my partner we were both so dissapointed in this Restaurant The Matre De did not ask if we had a reservation and did not even make eye contact with either of us. We were seated in a cold window table. We orderd drinks which took 15 mins to eventually arrive. Our shared Seafood platter was not worth the £18.50 per head and at best was very average . I ordered the Duck served on a bed of Pak choi which arrived in a carved out Pineapple(yuk) with a few grapes and the fattiest dryest over cooked Duck,it was awful, shocking for £22. My partner had a very poor Thai green Curry with dry over cooked poor quality Chicken. The sticky rice had not been taken out of the plastic bag which it had been microwaved in! To cap the whole night off the Waitress informed us that we would have to order Dessert AND anymore drinks before Bar and Kitchen closed (it 's mow 8.15pm) and we had just finished our starter.All too much for me so we asked for the bill which had a service charge of £15.00 and a portion of Pak choi (which should have been included with the main course dish) I refused to pay forl the Main course the Service charge and the pak choi. Overall, this meal and service was the worse experience I have had from a Restaurant for as long as I can remember, absolutely dreadful and needless to say would never recommend to my worse enemy!!!"

"Been trying to get a booking here since our reservation in December was cancelled due to COVID and quite frankly we were utterly disappointed. Front of house werent very friendly. The ambience was nice very chic and lively however music volume was so loud so quite hard to hold a conversation. The waiter we had was outrageously rude. He put his hand up to me to slow down my ordering which I was going at at the pace of a snail anyway! It took 10minutes to order because apparently the system was slow and I had to repeat myself several times. We couldn't decide on garlic sauce or peppercorn and we were told abruptly and rudely which one is it guys . He also was speaking to the table behind us while taking our order and didn't apologise. He just overall had a slight attitude. Starter turned up before our drinks! Calamari batter was underseasoned but sauces and squid itself were nice. Steaks turned up and mine looked anaemic (no griddle lines looked almost poached) but somehow it was overcooked as I asked for medium rare but a medium steak turned up. My partner asked for medium well and his was pink! Again steaks were underseasoned. My chips were warmish but not piping hot. Steak knives were only brought over once the steaks were already present on the table. The loo had no loo roll I went in to 3 cubicles and absolutely nothing. Our reservation was for 2 hrs and we were out of there in an hour. Honestly I can't articulate how disappointed we were with the meal. The bill came to almost 200£ and I could get better service and delicious food at a high street restaurant for a 1/4 of the price. Clearly a place that focuses on ambience as opposed to quality of food. May give the Strand outlet one last chance but I will be sticking with Gaucho or Hawksmoor in the future."
