"However, we did encounter some drawbacks. Previously, the restaurant had a number of spacious and cozy booths, but now many of those have been replaced with small tables that feel very exposed and are situated too close together. While I understand the need to maximize seating capacity — and normally, I would agree about the inefficiency of seating two people at a table meant for four — the layout of this restaurant is different. The meal includes hot stones, side dishes, and more, which requires a decent amount of space. We decided to share the exotic meat platter for two, consisting of six different cuts of meat served on two long wooden boards. With those boards, the hot stones, plates, and sides, our table became ridiculously crowded, making it very uncomfortable to eat. We found ourselves having to eat directly off the hot stones due to the lack of space for our plates. As for the food, I noticed new items on the menu and was excited to order the frogs' legs, having enjoyed them at other places. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed. They were served pale, boiled, and drenched in olive oil, which was neither appetizing nor enjoyable. My husband, however, said his squid starter was lovely. The exotic meats were well-prepared and plentiful for two people, and it was great to see a wider variety on the menu this time, as previously there was only kangaroo steak available. The staff were friendly and polite, and they served the drinks and food promptly. I requested a replacement for my stone, and Emily took care of it quickly. My only concern was that, despite the crowding at our table, the staff did not attempt to clear any of the used plates, even after we had finished with some. Overall, we left with mixed feelings. We're unsure if these issues arose from the Saturday night rush, but when you spend a significant amount of money, you expect a pleasant dining experience regardless of the circumstances. We will likely give it another shot, as we genuinely love this restaurant and have been loyal patrons for years. We just hope our next visit will be more enjoyable."

"Quite a puzzling visit after reading all the good reviews. The welcome and the staff were very friendly and attentive, service was fast and the food fresh and hot. However, it seemed to us that there was a lack of passion in terms of aesthetics and flavours. We both had the roast veg tart served with sautéed potatoes and fine beans and it was exactly that nothing else, dry. We had to ask for some mayo and garlic butter to jazz it up a bit and then it was probably on par with a lunch you might get in a cafe at a gallery or nature reserve. When charging £15 £25 for a main there needs to be a little bit of imagination and craft even more so with vegetarian dishes. Butter, oil, herbs, spices, balsamic, garlic, salsa verde, dijon etc are all really good and simple ways to make an otherwise bland meal of fresh ingredients delicious. The decor of the place is approached in much the same manner. We don't like going to chain eateries but at least most make an effort with atmosphere, aesthetics and flavour. In short: If you're happy with hunks of steak and don't care about the rest then these guys will sort you out in a friendly and efficient manner if you're expecting to be able to deviate from the meat dishes and still have your tastebuds tickled then I'd go somewhere else. "My partner and I love coming here for date nights. The food is absolutely phenomenal! We have never had a bad meal here, the food is always fresh, very hot, and the portion sizes are brilliant. The last two occasions we spent our nights here because of the vouchers they have on offer which are incredible value for money. Unfortunately, they were short staffed so we were told there would be a bit of a wait for food BUT this didn’t matter at all to us, as the staff come and have a chat, refill drinks and in all honesty, they never took that long to bring our food out anyway! There are two absolutely fantastic staff members there, one is John (I’m not very good with names! and he is such a great character! The lady waitress, I cannot remember her name but she was so helpful when I started having hot flushes during my dinner she kindly turned the air con on for me, brought me water and checked to make sure I was ok : the only nit picky thing I found (and it’s just purely a bit pick as I can’t find a fault with the Stanborough! is that the chairs in the bar area could do with recovering…the leather has worn and cracked and I found that bits of it were stuck to my legs when I stood up….but that is literally the only downside I have ever found. Please go and visit this lovely restaurant, you won’t be disappointed : and get the churro sundae! Delicious!!"
