"The Oval is located in a quiet residential area, about five minutes walk from East Croydon Station. It 's well worth the walk to find this traditional, characterful independent pub with friendly staff. But whilst it remains a traditional pub, it doesn 't dwell to much on the past and has a nice up to date vibe. Unfortunately there was only one ale on offer at the time of our visit from Laine 's, a Brighton brewery, but we were assured they normally have more, and like to support smaller London breweries. Our Fabulous Food features a good range of unpretentious hearty meals and substantial snacks at reasonable prices apart from the Sunday Roast £13), all dishes come in at under a tenner. Vegans and vegetarians are very well catered for with goodies like Spiced Sweet Potato, Spinach Peanut Stew, but us carnivores are not overlooked with Beef Rendang and Moroccan Spiced Lamb Burger amongst the offerings. Why not, as we did, combine a visit here with a ride on the Croydon Tramway?"
