"I am a regular at the White Horse, have been coming for years and left a good review last year. I booked an early table 5pm on New Years Eve with my family and shortly found out that things have changed for the worst. To start with, we were told that were no Seafood Platters which is the main part of the menu. This is the reason why we booked a table here as my kids love them. We then ordered from the small plates menu. The Sourdough Bread £2.50 per slice with smoked garlic was burned. The Straw Fries were soggy some were drooping over the bowl . When the Octopus arrived, one was a good size and the other was tiny. I then had to quickly cut them up and redistribute resize to my kids before they realised that one dish had been short changed. The tempura broccoli was a big tree like sprig with no tempura. There was no quality control in the kitchen and it seemed they were throwing anything on the plate. When the wine arrived, it was a different bottle to the one I ordered as they had run out. When it was dessert time, my youngest ordered Apple Pie they had run out. She then ordered the Lemon Curd Custard that had also run out. There was only 1 dessert left on the menu Chocolate Mousse . The menu I was given was dirty with food stuck on it and the hallway downstairs to the toilets was smelly with a door open to a grubby utility room. I 'd accept all of the above if I had gone to a pub with pub prices not a Chic Eatery with the prices to match £125 per head. I knew something had changed and after googling before writing this review found The White Horse was sold to someone new a few months ago. New Years Eve I appreciate is busy but to have most of the menu off at 5pm is poor and shows a lack of planning especially as the menu is small anyway. From other reviews it seems I got away lightly compared to others who had a nightmare at the main 8pm sitting. If you want to keep your regular customers, you really need to step up your game. Unfortunately I don 't think I 'll come back again. It was good whilst it lasted :"

"I can't say I've ever rated a company on google, but eating and service was excellent, which is unusual for Chinese restaurants in wazza. I can't believe all the star reviews are here. of what I can see, it seems like an isolated group trying to ruin these companies call. please ignore these comments as they are missing from a great place to eat. service: so I went one for a take, not know what I wanted and was greeted by blonde girls with glasses that helped me decide what to order. she offered some great recommendations and was very patient with me. Eat: absolutely tremendous, especially the salt and pfeffer tofu . I met the manager when I picked up my order. he was a rather strict character, but to be honest, it didn't disturb me at all. he does something very special. keep them the good work china rose. You made me eat again like Chinese."

"I used to love this place and go there all the time. Great sushi, reasonable prices and super helpful staff. The new management taking over is incredibly unhelpful. I called them to make a booking flagging that I was loyal customer and i have been going there for the last ten years. The restaurant manager was completely inflexible, couldn’t care less and she invited me to book on open table where everything was obviously fully booked. If you don’t care about your loyal customers, whom do you a care about? Very disappointing."

"My family had been excited to see what the fat crab was all about . So it was a promise to visit there with my family. First to have a takeaway and come back later for dinner if we see the staff were friendly. To our surprise the snow crab we ordered 39 pounds and the source was outrageous. It was so salty you could actually taste the suspended salt at the bottom of the plate. The powered peper and the muxed herbs could be tasted individually. We ended up binning the source. The crab legs were all bony. As a matter of we fact we were at the verge of returning the meal and just leave. Our experienced with the meal was horrible. Very disappointing for the kind of charge the meal cost."

"Been there many times before and no complaints but the fish and chips we had Saturday was awful the chips were tasteless and anemic looking most went in the bin the large cod we ordered was small with soggy thin undercooked batter the only nice thing was the tartare sauce. It was a busy bank holiday the place was very busy with some customers kicking off about the length of time they have waited, the young staff were unable to cope we definitely will not be returning."

"We had a great experience at Prawn on the Lawn for our first visit. The restaurant is located in what appears to be an old shop, among several other restaurants in the area and only a short walk from Highbury Islington tube station. We opted for a variety of small plates, including mackerel, prawns, tuna, and spicy potatoes. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious, although we wished we had ordered a larger dish for two as we left still a bit hungry. We enjoyed a nice bottle of Italian red wine from Puglia with our meal. The total cost for the two of us was £165, which we found reasonable considering the quality of the seafood. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was pleasant. We look forward to visiting again."

"If you have a seafood allergy or simply dislike fish, read no further because this review is a paean of praise for a chef who prepares shellfish and fresh fish in ways you would never have thought possible. From the freshly baked bread with smoked mackerel butter topped with caviar through the scallops, prawns, mussels, clams, hake, monkfish and baby lobster, every mouthful produces a delicious series of flavours like no other. The restaurant is small and intimate and, on the evening we were there, hosted a truly international clientele. The atmosphere is warm, the service is friendly and the pace is well judged. My main regret is that is so far from our home that we are unable to visit on a regular basis."

"We went for Sunday Lunch (party of 7) Never again!! We were not in any rush but the service was very slow. While we waited in the lounge by the log fire or should I say ash as there was only the smallest glow from the remains of a fire. We asked when given the menu if they did a Sunday Roast and were told no not today, as they had been busy with weddings at the week-end. The menu was very limited, 3 choices of starter and main. Our table of seven were given seven slices of bread and 1 tiny dish of tapenade. I opted for the Scotch broth, it was the worst broth I have ever had, too much salt, 6 tiny bits of carrot, and 2 pieces of sweet corn and a bowl full of barley, and it was awful. For my main I decided on the chicken with haggis, mash and veg. The chicken arrived no mash no haggis, we were told the chef forgot the haggis and it would be 3 minutes, I can only imagine how to cook haggis in 3 minutes is microwave it. The mash was replaced with 3 small slices of cold boiled potato sliced and then fried. Only 4 of our party of 7 opted for dessert, which was fine, I had the panna cotta with espresso ice cream which was good; however the waitress announced they had no spoons! We would have to have soup spoons. We were the only people in the restaurant at this time, how difficult is it to wash 4 spoons. Was Uri Geller at the weddings they had at the weekend? I will never go back there for a meal. The receptionist was also very rude, as we were waiting at reception for quite some time being ignored even after I said excuse me twice. Eventually a man came out from an office at the side and helped us with our request. We expected a lot better from a place advertising: Elegant comfort, excellent food, delicious Sunday Lunch and a professional team."

"Today, I ordered two types of sushi rolls. The first was the crispy shrimp roll with mango and caviar. The natural sweetness of the mango enhances the fresh sweetness of the shrimp, creating a delightful symphony of textures as you chew. The second was the volcano roll. While there are other volcano rolls out there, none erupt like the ones at Kitcho. Roasted radishes are used in the sauce to balance out the richness of the mayonnaise, adding a beautifully textured and fresh element. Their tempura is made in-house and is crispier than what you typically find elsewhere. The fried chicken is possibly the juiciest I've ever had; the chicken thighs are marinated and caramelized, resulting in an incredibly tender bite. Their fried oysters are also delicious, but the fried chicken truly steals the show."

"I have seen the reviews and decided that I had a neeed to go, which was a challenge as it was just snowing and it was a 150 mile round trip. they come down at an inconvenient front in the mainly residential sea front. as they go into them, get the feeling of a quirky large living room. it has no air no pardon it is what it is. I heard the table next door say that they read something that the cook has no love to michelin inspectors, as he wants to strive for different goals. the menu for Sunday dinner is short, but I decided to stay at the a la carte with chalkboard specialties, as it seems crazy to get into a fish restaurant and have a roast! started with a plate of deep fried oysters with good scattering and deafness. main was a delicious dover sole with tile kartoffel and greens with hollandaise. dessert was a truly sensational lemon sufflé with sauce and lemon jelly ice cream that was delicious. one of the best I've ever eaten, also in two Michelin star facilities (Sorry Cook). the employees are very carefully copied, as well as it became more busy and treated events also the spontaneous unexpected break of a plate (without causal) toilets clean and well ordered. also in terrible wind and snow still full! a real test on the quality of the experience. was it worth a snow-covered 150 mile round trip? Oh, yeah!"

"Bonnie Gull is a new addition here, specializing in seafood. Tucked away on a side street, this compact space features a long bar overlooking the kitchen, where you can watch the chefs work their magic. I always appreciate when chefs are passionate about their craft, and at Bonnie Gull, the chefs seemed genuinely happy and inspired, working as a cohesive team. The staff in the dining area manage the small space exceptionally well and are incredibly friendly. The service is professional and knowledgeable without feeling condescending. In such an intimate setting, where patrons are close together, it's essential for the staff to maintain a relaxed demeanor. My only suggestion would be to avoid the seats nearest to the door; the constant opening and closing can be a bit distracting, especially during colder weather. Aside from that minor detail, I have no complaints. We decided to start our meal with a couple of tapas-style dishes, including two oysters and croquettes served with curry mayo—an unusual pairing that surprisingly worked well. The oysters were fresh and flavorful, and we also enjoyed some grilled Scottish langoustine cooked in garlic butter, though I wished there had been more of these delicious creatures. The spicy toast was tender and fresh, too. My favorite dish was the "fish our water"—a creative take on a fish dish. As a fan of bavette steak, I was curious to see how a seafood restaurant would interpret meat. The steak was marinated in basil pesto butter and cooked to a perfect pink. It melted in my mouth and was truly satisfying. Overall, the meal was well-rounded and enjoyable. As a tapas-style seafood bar, Bonnie Gull certainly scores high marks. There are additional seats and tables at the back for those who prefer more traditional dining, but I encourage everyone to sit at the bar and watch the chefs at work, especially when the results are so beautifully presented. It was also great to see a strong female presence in the kitchen. With other locations in Fitzrovia and Mayfair, Bonnie Gull is definitely a must-visit for seafood lovers in the city."

"My family and I were staying in St Merryn and decided to make a reservation for dinner at a restaurant. Although we understand that Saturday evenings can be busy, we were disappointed with the overall experience considering the price we paid. The staff were friendly and our drinks were served promptly. However, there were some issues with the timing of our food. One of the starters my husband ordered for his main course took an hour and 20 minutes to arrive, and our mains took nearly two hours to be served. There was no apology for the long wait when the food finally came out. We usually avoid complaining and try to go with the flow, but the quality of the cote de boeuf was poor, with a lot of fat and tough meat that was under seasoned. The hake and potatoes were enjoyable, but the sauce had an overwhelming amount of garlic in it. We requested to have the leftover beef packaged for our dogs, but were later informed that it had been thrown away. Despite the waiter's apologies, we left feeling disappointed with the entire dining experience. It was a shame because we had initially planned to dine there again during the rest of our holiday."

"Well, it's just as good as I remember! I visited two years ago and fell in love with me. unfortunately not locally for me. I called in a last minute booking on the way past they were very accommodating. short waiting and great greeting from a young guy. the man who took me on my first visit was the owner I had served this time from his daughter. she was just as ace! I'm sorry I didn't upload photos that I enjoyed the dishes before I could think of a photo for my review! we had the sea bass, oysters, scallops, lobster, risotto and cabbage, each cooked to perfection. the only improvement I can suggest is to bring a bowl of lemon water with the lobster, as I would like to put into some would say it is expensive for small teller, but I prefer a lot of quality over quantity. I would like to pay and tap again."
