Afternoon Tea At The May Fair

Afternoon Tea At The May Fair

Stratton Street, London, United Kingdom

Tea • Wine • Full • Coffee

"I arrived 10 minutes before my reservation, but it took an hour for my order to arrive. When I inquired about the menu, a rather sweet but obviously new waitress said she would return with answers. She was apologetic, which was appreciated. However, when I asked for the bill, I was charged for afternoon tea, and it was corrected only after I pointed out the mistake. The tea service was rusty, and I had to show it to the waitress for her to notice. She came back several times with unclean tea strainers, claiming that the stains wouldn’t come off. However, after I pressed the issue, she returned with a polished one, stating, "Now this is clean." I have better tea service at home, so I know it can be properly cleaned. Overall, the experience was unpleasant. The food was mediocre—nothing special. I had requested no mayonnaise due to allergies during my reservation, but they didn’t seem to take that into account, and I had to ask multiple times which dishes contained mayonnaise. I was not very impressed; while the food itself might be good, the service was subpar. I won’t be recommending this place to my friends who regularly enjoy afternoon tea. I came specifically to try the Kohlennel and Walker chocolate menu, but I was deeply disappointed and embarrassed for my guest, who has high standards as a restaurateur. It was a bad experience, with poor service and staff prioritizing themselves over customers. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone who values quality."
