"The last time I ate in this building was over 25 years ago when the restaurant was Montmerencies. It was excellent so I decided to give the Flaming Cow a try. The menu options were very limited. My wife selected the half rack and wings combo and i went for a burger. The burger did not come with French fries but my wife’s choice did. As she is not a great lover of fries I didn’t order an extra portion to accompany my burger but did ask for a side of onion rings. Despite there being 3 types of ale on the menu the only one available was a 330 ml can of Camden Pale Ale at 6 pounds. I didn’t realise the price when ordering or I would have made do with water. My wife went for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. There were only two wines available, the SB and a Malbec. The wine appeared to have been subjected to a reverse miracle, having been turned from wine into water. It was so weak that I am surprised it was allowed out without an accompanying nurse. The waitress returned to advise me that they were out of onion rings so did I want another side instead. I would have had a salad except the only one on the menu was a full main course chicken salad. I declined. When the food arrived my burger was ok but nothing special. The ribs on my wife’s meal were excellent, tasty and with the meat falling off the bones. The same could not be said of the wings. I know people have differing palates but I never thought that wings could be made inedible for me. The taste was of a concoction of chemicals that were never meant to be in the vicinity of food. We left and retired to the George, opposite, where I was able to enjoy a couple of pints of Guardsman at “only” 5 pounds a pint. This was my first and last visit to the Flaming Cow."

"What can I say, this is probably the best restaurant I've been to in Inverness. Booking was no hassle either online, through the phone or visiting beforehand. However it would be best to book in advance. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and inviting, almost a home feel. The wine cellar and Himalayan salt fridge for steaks are in full view. Starters were Duck with Alpine Slaw and Cajun prawns. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. Great quality seafood and meat. Good crisp vegetables. The prawns may be a little spicy for people not used to it. Mains were the Venison, Sirloin steak, Chicken and Vegetable Linguine. The venison was no doubt the best I've had in the region, perfectly cooked for me (really rare however they will accommodate people) fantastic seasoning and sides. Chicken equally good and the smoked butter was fantastic. The vegetable Linguine though plain looking on the menu, was great for our vegetarian in the party (extra parmesan and chilli flakes available) the steak however really shines, dry aged on site and accompanied with local vegetables and homemade chips. It was divine, however I'd miss out on the sirloin and ribeye to get the fillet as that one I've heard is extremely decadent. Desserts we had were 3 scoops of sorbet (cherry, strawberry and apple) and the Gin and Tonic cheesecake. The sorbets were light and refreshing, perfectly tart and the apple had a great cardamom twist. The cheesecake was light and delicate boasting fruity and botanic flavours. Beverage selection was good with a wide variety of wines and spirits. Overall the food was fantastic, the staff are friendly and efficient (service was great throughout the night however due to covid our desserts took a long time though we weren't in any rush) the location is great and pricing is reasonable (better with the new eat out to help out scheme too) I will definitely be coming here everytime I go to Inverness"

"One of the worst experiences i’ve ever had in hospitality. Firstly, I had a table booked via opentable which the host seemed to have no idea about. She asked us to wait at the bar until she got our table ready. 35 mins later, still waiting to have our drinks order taken, we were seated in the restaurant. This same host seated us and asked if we’d like any water for the table, to which we asked for a jug of tap water. This water never came. Another 30 mins go by, still no food or drinks order. We tried getting the attention of the waiters but no one would come over. Eventually a young man came over, who asked for our drinks order. We had no drinks menu so asked to see one. He took our food order first and then returned with a drinks menu. But no one came back to take our drinks order. Our starters then come out… still no drinks order. When delivering the food we asked if we could order some drinks, and this was the only time we could order drinks for the whole 3 hour duration of our meal. Once we’d had the food, we asked for a dessert menu. Baring in mind, our mains came out exactly 2 hours after the table was booked that shows how slow the service was. No one came to take this dessert order until another 35 mins later. We felt completely abandoned by all the staff. They then had the cheek to add a service charge on. I hate taking the service charge off as i work in hospitality myself but in this instant I was gobsmacked they even put it on. Wouldn’t return even if it was my last meal on earth."
