"We ended up here by chance having never been before. Will definitely be making this one of our favourites. The 2 and three course lunch menus were a lovely suprise from the usual choices. For starter mum and I had the spinach pancakes in a prawn and cheese sauce. Main for me was a whole grilled trout superbly cooked. Dessert was a really excellent cream caramel. The portions were generous. The staff were friendly and attentive. A total delight on a rainy day "

"The staff are really good. They went out of their way to ensure that the service was good and we never had empty plates on the table for long. The food portions however were not so good. I had a breakfast which was just a slice of bacon, one egg and some beans with 1 slice of toast. It could hardly be called a breakfast. The food tasted good though so the quality of food was definitely good enough. We also had cake which was good. My wife had a cream tea here which was her third cream tea of the week! This little cafe had the best cream tea of them all apparently."

"I had the most relaxing Sunday at this restaurant recently! The outdoor area has a lovely view and is very peaceful. The breakfast options were delicious and the restaurant is welcoming to families and dogs."

"We caravan often nearby and usually stop here for a drink. Pre COVID we have eaten there often. Now back again and wondered if it would still be as good. Needn't have worried greeted by friendly staff and although fully booked for evening manage to squeeze the 2 of us in. So glad we booked as we arrived a bit earlier than 6pm and the place was heaving as they had music booked but we were shown to our table. Ordered our drinks and meals at bar to very friendly and helpful lady. We had nacho starter for two delicious and both had fish and chips everything was excellent, all piping hot couldn't fault it apart from too full for dessert !! This is a real community pub with every age group so not a quiet restaurant but we found it nice to find a busy pub for a change. Will definitely be returning while we are in the area."

"My family visited The Chance restaurant last Wednesday and were warmly welcomed and seated promptly at our table. The menu was intriguing, and my mother opted for her favorite, Ham, Egg, and Chips. The menu stated three eggs, but my mother has a small appetite and requested only one egg. I chose the special "Duck in a sweet and sour sauce". Although there was a bit of a wait, our dishes arrived hot and freshly made - both were delicious. We didn't have room for dessert, but the options sounded tempting. To our pleasant surprise, the bill for the ham and chips meal with only one egg (without us asking) was very reasonable. The service, despite being busy, was excellent. We highly recommend The Chance restaurant!"

"My wife and I took my 88 year old mother who lives in Verwood to John Browns for lunch today . We arrived around 12;45pm and were surprised not to see the nice range of sunday roasts or pre made salads/ploughmans which we used to be served at the counter in the past. So we duly ordered from their menu , fish and chips, macaroni cheese and I had salmon fishcake with avocado and salad. We put our trays back, collected a couple of cup of tea and a can of Coke and my wife paid and we were given a number to put on table. There was a sign up saying there would be a 15-20 minute wait for food so we found a table and drank our drinks . 35 minutes after we placed our order the food arrived, fishcake did not contain much salmon , the macaroni cheese lacked taste and the only good meal was the fish and chips which my mum had chosen. There appeared to be plenty of front of house staff so we were surprised that the food took so long to arrive especially as the cafe was not very full and both my wife and myself were hungry on our way home to Hampshire a few hours later. I do not know if this was a restricted summer menu but we will not be coming back to eat at John Browns unless the sunday roasts return and are served up at the counter . Very dissapointed. "Stopped off for a break on the way back down South after hearing it's dog friendly. Queued up inside with my dog sat beside me so I could order and we could eat outside. Approached by a waitress and told I couldn't bring my dog inside, when I stated I just wanted to order at the counter and eat outside I was told the dog had to be outside! I was next in line to be served so would have been there another 3 minutes at the most! Suffice to say we won't be back."

"no idea why it is 4.2 stars, it should be a perfect 5.0 stars. stunned over while looking for a place to lunch (3pm) in the middle of a city closed business. beautiful ambiente, friendly older couple hostess, tasty yet healthy and fresh main dishes and coffee. the attention to details, service and eating wise, is amazing. had a similar salmon dish at the buir of dream cruises, but this is wonderfully fresh and delicious. also the mini toilets are well designed and furnished. the prices are cheaper than the average of the restaurants that I have visited so far in england."

"fantastic breakfast with a lively atmosphere. I have a great appetit, but the Veggie breakfast made me full for the rest of the day. I really liked the avocado and spinach with it. my wife had the avocado and the egg on the toast with an extra of halloumi she thought was an excellent combo. our partners had one of the full English and one egg on toast and both enjoyed. would be coming back to kingston."
