"We had a voucher for a sparkling tea. Reassured by their website that pronounced their covid measurs were above government guidelines I allayed my 93 year olds Mums fear about going. We were able to sit outside which was of much covid reassurance to Mum...And all was well in this wonderful place which Mum pronounced to be 'the real macoy '...they even catered very impressively for my vegan diet...all was well until we paid in the reception lounge. Mum had thought we would not need to hand over our gift card as they had already got our details when we booked on the phone, but not so...she wore her mask, I was lulled into a false sense of security and destracted that Mums very poor hearing meant she had not heard and was about to walk out the door in her unstable on her feet way, as I handed the voucher over minus my mask to the unmasked young man. Mum observed no one in the lounge was wearing a mask, and the young man got very close to me. I do think this is indefensible. Today the government has changed their rules so today they would all have to be wearing their masks, but surely it 's good sense. On reflection I noted our two waitresses were walking pretty close to ' each other too. Most of the clientele seemed to be over 60...surely they have a duty of care. When i check trip advisor for much humbler eating places, alot have staff wearing masks before the government told them they must...WHY NOT HERE!? I did phone them today..I was told staff do get a temperature screen every day ...but that is only an indication. I was impressed they had hands free alcohol gel dispensers, they took our details, wiped our tables and others every hour and after someone has dined. Its a wonderful place which has let itself down."

"This was a last minute booking as we found ourselves in London for the weekend. The food was delicious and some of the service team were warm and welcoming. One of the servers placed the amuse bouche on our table and walked away without telling us what it was (we had to ask another person). Thank goodness we don 't have any food allergies! We also had to ask more than once for some ice to have with our drinks. We also had to tell them when we were finished with the mains, and when we ordered dessert (which included a hot drink), we did not receive any petit fours or chocolate (all the other tables did). Perhaps service was a little off this weekend? The other downside was that the prices advertised on The Fork did not match the prices on The Goring 's website, and the prices advertised on The Goring 's website did not match the actual prices on the menu! For example, their famous lobster omelette is £34 on The Fork 's 'a la carte ' menu, £38 on The Goring 's website, but we were actually charged £45! The food is good, but I am not sure we would go back again. We paid over £200 for a 3-course meal and service was subpar and the prices were inconsistent."

"Our booking was based on a Google search for great places to eat in Edinburgh. Booked through open table for a birthday celebration, a 2 o'clock booking was made , we arrived early , and seated early after the hostess checked with the chefs....perfect because we were hungry! Drinks ordered , bread served , with Marmite butter.....delicious and a Rapeseed oil. Meal orders taken .... starters Confit Duck Salad Beef Tartare Amazing Mains.... Rump of Beef Monk fish , with squid Amazing Dessert .... Chocolate mousse Victoria sponge. Amazing Great drinks , Belvedere Mule excellent We have had many delicious meals all over the world, but this really stood out, the flavours were awesome We were talking about it all the way round our morning walk today. Venue: excellent Staff: excellent Value: excellent Great touch for the birthday boy, some sweet treats and a complimentary dessert wine Top drawer. We will return Stuart and Yvonne Dalgety Bay Fife"
