"I starved on Sunday night and lam's kitchen expression was fortunately open. "I'm currently studying for masters disertation and came in here on a quiet Tuesday morning to have breakfast and work. I'd come here before a few weeks ago when the manager was in. He was lovely and let me stay for 4+ hours even though I only ordered a coffee and I'd been raving about how lovely this place was for the past few weeks. This morning I went and arrived at 11:30 and asked to sit in and was told that I could only sit on the bar I pointed to an empty table and the waiter grudgingly allowed me to sit. I was sitting next to two other people on their laptops neither of whom had ordered food. I ordered pancakes and a coffee (asked for no banana on my pancakes) and bottle water, the coffee never came and pancakes had banana on but I left it because the staff seemed stressed. After only an hour and half I was asked to aggressively leave because the cafe has a 2 hour limit. Despite the fact that the person next to me who hadn't ordered food was not moved a long and there was no queue of people waiting. Little did the know I was about to order lunch so they missed out on my service. If you're the lovely manger reading this then I would talk to your staff about the tone they are taking with customers. I understand a 2 hour laptop rule but I was only there for an hour and a half compared to people next to me and I felt like I was picked on. because I was a younger woman working in the cefe covered to the middle aged people sitting next to me."

"I called to make a reservation and the phone line was busy. However, they promptly returned my call, which was perfect. The welcome at the restaurant was friendly and welcoming, making us feel like regulars even though it was our first time there. The food was the best we have had in the KT area. The service was also exceptional. Overall, it was a wonderful evening with delicious food!"

"We went there on a Monday night and found it quite full. After a 10 minute wait we we shown to a table and handed menus. After another wait we were asked if we wanted drinks. After yet another wait the drinks arrived and our order was taken. A full hour after we entered the restaurant our meal was served. During this time I was able to observe what was happening. There was only one person who was doing everything. Clearing tables, taking orders, serving drinks, setting tables etc. Given that the restaurant was busy its no wonder everyone was waiting ages for service. The food when it arrived was simply delicious. It was almost worth the hours wait. I'll definitely visit again but at the weekend. Hopefully there will be more staff on duty."

"Chutneys offers a great vegetarian lunch buffet. It is one of a small number of restaurants on Drummond Street doping so, and a fraction cheaper than some of the better known names, but the food is every bit as good and offers excellent value. There's a good selection of cold salads often centred round pulses with warm onion bhajis and roti to start the roti were the only slightly disappointing part of the whole meal as they were a little tough ! . Main dishes includes lentils, chickpeas, mushrooms and cauliflower in distinctive curries, with rice and a good selection of pickles. And there's also dessert with milk jellies and a nice variety of fresh fruit. I had a sparkling lemon and mint drink made to order not from a can it was very nice too, but slightly expensive. But they will just provide you with tap water, and also sell lassis. Note that it's not vegan I heard another diner ask which dishes were, and most were not vegan as many contain yoghurt or ghee. But for vegetarians it's great! Note that the buffet is not served at weekends, I believe."

This is a favourite local restaurant of mine and my family and I suggested it as a venue for a Christmas get-together to a group of friends some of whom hadn't eaten here before. Excellent authentic Indian food, wonderful service and a real buzz about the place. This is a family run restaurant and they look after their guests beautifully. "Try and avoid busy times, we went on a Thursday evening and didn’t realise you can only have the table for 1.5hrs. We had our plates whisked away as soon as the last mouthful taken and immediately asked if we’d like dessert. When we declined dessert we were told we’d have to vacate our table soon and 10 minutes later had a waiter at our table with a card reader machine! Not the most relaxing dinners with a friend but the shepherds pie was delicious. We did give feedback and were offered a drink at the bar and advised to come back at a weekend or lunchtime when it isn’t so busy."

"My two friends and I visited Nimboo on a Friday night. The restaurant was only half full, so we were seated next to a wall. I placed my soft leather handbag on the floor next to my chair and ordered the fish curry, which unfortunately was disappointing. The dish resembled a thick tomato soup with small bits of fish. When I picked up my bag, I discovered it was wet and the leather had become soft like a sponge, ruining it. There was a leak next to me, so I informed the waitress who seemed unsure of the issue. The waiter brought a folded tablecloth to soak up the water, but did not address my damaged bag. As I walked to the bathroom, I noticed cartons on the floor to absorb the leaking water. I was puzzled as to why we were seated at that table when they were aware of the leak. I have no plans to return to Nimboo after this experience."

"This used to be a fantastic restaurant had been using for over 20years. But with the change in management the chef all I can say now is AVOID. We all ended up with food poisoning!! We noticed when eating that the food did not look or taste the same as normal. Within 12 hours all members of my family incl children were violently ill. Contacted the restaurant politely explained the problem. We recieved shouting in return. Told to contact the next day for a refund. Contacted the following day as soon as my husband said his name the shouting started. I went to collect my refund as they had said. I was polite discreet in the restaurant. As the lady there passed me my refund she stated we were not to go there again was aggressive. I stated that we wouldnt had reported to environmental health (I did raise my voice at this point). The male manager then stepped in and literally chased me out of the restaurant into the street demanding I speak to him. For my own safety I kept walking."

"Went for the first time today, I will definitely be back! I love Indian food and everything was so delicious, the smells hit you as soon as you walk in. Was a lovely atmosphere, very busy but the food was quick. Cocktails were really well priced as they were £5.50 and were quite big and strong compared to other places in the area that charge £8 for weak cocktails. Can’t wait to come back and try more things on the menu! (I got onion, spinach and kale Bhaji chicken momo for starter and the chef special Thali)"

"Really disappointed in the Royal Tandoori last night. It was my friend's and we gave them a cake to bring out after the meal. One of the staff came over and asked how many for cake? before cake was presented, and proceeded to put out small plates! I took her aside in absolute amazement and she said they didn't realise it was a surprise. Seriously, when is a birthday cake NOT a surprise?! She completely ruined the moment and didn't even apologise when she saw me visibly upset. The food was ok but I would seriously avoid going here if it's for a birthday as these guys have no idea"

"Went with my wife, daughter and het husband on a Saturday night (20th Aug). No problems with either the food or service given to us. What we all had an issue with was that there was an added 10% service charge added to the bottom of the bill. Neither the menu nor staff mentioned a service charge. Others were not as savvy as we were and left cash tips which were readily taken by waiting staff (so they in theory tipped twice). Will we be going to Ali T again. No due to sneaky tactics to make money out of customers."

"had to use a groupon voucher from a friend. it was for 4 people so a few close friends. what seemed to be a bit of a iffy start, that they did not seem to know what the goodwill that had us to / manager had to take part etc. we were all excited about the food, service, ambiente etc. also was wonderfully air conditioned in the 35 degree warm. our server was mahi paresh. she was very polite and accommodating to make sure we had what we wanted when we wanted it. she waited until we finished every cure before we clean up the table as we like it. the restaurant celebrated this year 11 years. I always wanted to try there, but never came. it's a shame, because it's really a nice place. the badge has changed that! it was a set menu that meant that we were eating that we did not usually order what was delicious and we were done to the end! we look forward to the return. hopefully in the not faraway future!"

"My wife and I went here for our anniversary meal on Saturday. We ordered a la carte. The service from start till finish was amazing. The tandoori chicken is absolutely yummy ! We loved our mains the only disappointment was that one of our mains came really late however they realised this themselves and didn't charge us for it and gave us free hot drink and dessert. "Food was really tasty! We really loved the varied curry that the restaurant served. Tikka chicken Briyani was one of our most favorite dish. The rice was very fragrant and flavoured with the spice, making it very flavourful. The curry that accompanied it complements the food perfectly. We also ordered the Madras King Prawn Curry with a Garlic and Coriander Naan. It is decently spicy, and the curry was even tastier than the curry for Briyani. We really loved the food. Very high quality! We were quite disappointed at how slow the service was even though there were only 2 customers in the restaurant that day. Front of house was busy attending to reservations and calls, and took very long to take our orders. The other customer had to wait quite a while for the FOH to be free to have his main course served. Other staff could have helped with the workload. Nevertheless, he was very apologetic and friendly throughout."
