"Terrible experience at L’Orangerie. My friend and I had arrived in Sorrento for the day ready to find a nice place to have a drink and some food, considering it was 33 degrees we thought why not try find a nice pool to swim in as well. We walked past L’Orangerie poolside bar and restaurant and thought that sounded like the perfect place to spend our afternoon. After looking online to see if we needed to book, and seeing many openings for the afternoon we thought we would just walk in and ask as there were many free reservations. Upon arrival a staff member greeted us and we said we would like to have a few drinks by the pool, she said of course do you have a booking, or we said no (as after looking at the website it did not appear necessary, as well as looking around there were many free sun beds available) she said no worries I will check with my colleague. She turned her head for one second before then saying I am sorry we are so busy today. We were carrying backpacks as we had packed and brought a spare change of clothes as we expected to go to the beach, but upon arrival decided if we could find a pool that would be a better option. Dressed neatly in a linen skirt and singlet, whilst admittedly a little bit sweaty and flustered from the extremely hot weather I found the service extremely rude and conceited as they clearly had decided we were not good enough to be let in. My friend and I would have enjoyed more than a few drinks as we planned to stay in sorrento until a cooking class we had booked later that night. Would not return."

"The staff were happy to accommodate our large group consisting of people, outside and away from other diners. We were seated promptly and a waitress took our drinks order. We were also given menus. The drinks arrived and some of the glasses had bright red lipstick marks on them. Yuk. We politely asked for some replacements. At this point we were still deciding what food to order. When we were ready the conversations went something like: Us:”I’d like a Hawaiian pizza please”. Waitress: “oh no, there’s no pizza today because the pizza chef isn’t here”. Us: “oh okay, why didn’t this get mentioned minutes ago when you gave us the menu?” Waitress: shrugs. All the teenagers had to choose another option. Us:”I’d like the sea bass please”. Waitress: “oh, there’s no sea bass” etc etc. While we totally understand there are staffing issues and supply issues in the food business at present but couldn’t see why they didn’t tell us on arrival or at least when the menus were handed out? The food arrived and it was pretty good. One of our group nearly got her risotto in her lap as a young waitress was only on her second shift. I’d only ever heard good things about this pub but based on this experience none of us are keen to return. The restaurant industry is on its knees and while I’m totally sympathetic, they need to be more organised and ensure the staff are briefed and more dynamic."

"What a horrible experience we had since our last visit in 2021. We have been regular customers for years, and we were really looking forward to come back after since the pandemic. First, service was the worst. We were rushed and not attended enough throughout the evening. We try to order something, and midway through the order, the waitress decides to just leave the table leaving us with outstanding requests. This kept happening during the whole dinner. Second, the tagliolini with truffle were so tasteless and bland, I had to keep adding salt, pepper, chilli olive oil just to get some taste out of it so I can finish my plate. And I am usually not a fussy eater. The pasta itself was undercooked and very doughy/chewy, too. We ordered extra pepperoni on our pizza, and in our opinion, there was no visible difference to the amount of salami put on it. What came out to us is what it would normally would've come out with. Thirdly, I ordered a tiramisu which I was really looking forward to, given all the experinece so far, that this will wash all the bad away. How wrong was I... The tiramisu was nothing short of a small whiskey size glass stuffed with layer of lady fingers and a layer of mascarpone with just a shy amount of sprinkled cocoa on top. Upon looking closely at the so-called tiramisu dessert, I noticed that the lady fingers were so dry and not soaked in coffee at all. I decided that I won't be having this and wished to return it. When we received the bill and after we paid for everything we had but the tiramisu, we were asked by our waiter how our food was. So we though, oh, someone actually cares and wants to know, how nice. Little did we know that no one actually cared, and the only reason we were asked this was so that we can be told by the Manager how wrong we are, how we have no right to complain about the food or the service, how as a goodwill gesture we weren't charged 2 pounds for the extra pepperoni (which on the contrary was on the bill, and we paid for with no objections), how the Manager is sick of customers telling them how Italian food should or should not be, how we have no right to object or say anything negatively about their precious chef's dishes, how we don't understand nothing, etc. In conclusion, and after reading through previous reviews too, I can confidently say that this seems to not have been nor will be the first or last case. There seems to be a clear pattern and common complaints about same thing, but that no one will ever take that constructive feedback away and try to improve. Needless to say after years of supporting this local business, we will no longer be returning. Not just for the terrible food experience, but more so for the horrible customer service we received from the Manager."
