"Worst things first: I think the service could have been a bit better as the waiters weren't so attentive. It was quite difficult to get their attention. Also I asked for lukewarm water as my wife was ill and we were still served chilled water. I asked for the bill to come with the card reader as we were in a rush and the bill still came alone and we had to ask for the card reader again. Other than this the ambience is really really nice. You get a nice view of Canary wharf and although the pillars block the view a bit, I guess those are required to hold the building up haha so it is what it is. Really nice view which every table can appreciate, beautiful interior design my wife referred to it as having a homely feel. I would definitely come back during the day as Im sure it would like marvellous with the sun coming through the full length windows how much better at sunset!! The food was exquisite too. I had eaten beforehand so didn't eat much: just squid rings and the bread selections. Its small but it goes a long way when restaurants heat up the butter so its soft and spreadable on nice warm and soft bread. The squid rings were good too, not too rubbery like many are these days. My wife had a bit more: the cod on mash with caviar (or just roe, not sure) and fries. The fries were so so nice, perfectly salted and fried. The cod and mash was DIVINEEE. Every bite that I stole from her was eye shut inducing. Perfectly cooked cod that tasted like it came from the sea that very morning, one of the creamiest mashed potatoes I've had in a while and then the caviar/roe to add a certain texture to the after taste. Superb. Excellent restaurant, would definitely recommend and not too bad a price as well considering the high class interior and prime location in Canary Wharf."

"We had booked a table for 7.30 pm dinner and after waiting in line we’re shown to a table. The table next to us was very very loud and discussing business on a Saturday night. We could not hear each other above their din. After 30 minutes a waiter came to take our order and we asked for a quieter table. We were told to walk outside to the terrace. Essentially this is an area in the thoroughfare of the hotel (inside) behind a wooden low fence. After another 20 minutes I went to find a waiter who said he would come out to take our order. After another 10 minutes I went and found another server. The waiter I had seen before recognised me and hit his hand on his head and came out to us. The starter was delicious but we had to chase up the bottle of wine and never got our glasses of water. When the main course was delivered by a lady she said “Bon appetit” but we said we couldn’t eat without cutlery. She promised us some but we never saw her again. After 5 minutes my husband went and found cutlery because his fish and chips were getting cold. My shepherds pie was tasteless, lots of potato and a thin layer of lamb in a watery tasteless gravy. Nobody ever came back to check on us. They add a discretionary 12.5% tip for a service charge which I didn’t think they deserved so we took the bill to the desk and told the manager of our experience. He blames the management for trying to reduce staff and told us it was our own fault because we voted for Brexit. I pointed out to him I didn’t. He said it is like that every night. He removed the service charge and 20% off the food which was fair but next time I stay at the Sofitel I will bring a picnic and save a pot of money and disappointment."

"service was ok, staff very nice. the food was bland and badly cooked. chicken wings had soft, healthy fat. bruschetta the standard tomato was ok, but the cheese version was terrible. thick plate of cold cheese with a sweet, generic sauce. the brot was cold. the pizzas were ok, but without taste. badly seasoned. the main thing of seafood cannelloni was terrible. a pool of pink mud. the salat was limp and looked like it had not been dressed for lunch at lunchtime! desserts were shockingly bad. the affogato was made with blandeis and the crumbs drowned in the coffee. the sunflower was something that would produce her 10 years old with a few flax queezy ice cream and picked cream...again, bland and sloppy. Finally, the pear tea was pale, soggy, tasteless. that's the third time we ate there and say, "Maybe it was a night." It seems everyone at night is free. it was the birthday of our sohne, and I had stated this during the booking, but it was not pointed out at all. there was a billing mix at the end that the personal treated well. so no problems there. all said a terrible experience, a birthday meal. will not go back and could not advise anyone else, either. in view of our experience. the menu needs an overhaul...maybe would help to remove things like chicken wings from an italian. cooking must be significantly improved. the ambiente is good, decor ok, personal friendly."
