"Worst things first: I think the service could have been a bit better as the waiters weren't so attentive. It was quite difficult to get their attention. Also I asked for lukewarm water as my wife was ill and we were still served chilled water. I asked for the bill to come with the card reader as we were in a rush and the bill still came alone and we had to ask for the card reader again. Other than this the ambience is really really nice. You get a nice view of Canary wharf and although the pillars block the view a bit, I guess those are required to hold the building up haha so it is what it is. Really nice view which every table can appreciate, beautiful interior design my wife referred to it as having a homely feel. I would definitely come back during the day as Im sure it would like marvellous with the sun coming through the full length windows how much better at sunset!! The food was exquisite too. I had eaten beforehand so didn't eat much: just squid rings and the bread selections. Its small but it goes a long way when restaurants heat up the butter so its soft and spreadable on nice warm and soft bread. The squid rings were good too, not too rubbery like many are these days. My wife had a bit more: the cod on mash with caviar (or just roe, not sure) and fries. The fries were so so nice, perfectly salted and fried. The cod and mash was DIVINEEE. Every bite that I stole from her was eye shut inducing. Perfectly cooked cod that tasted like it came from the sea that very morning, one of the creamiest mashed potatoes I've had in a while and then the caviar/roe to add a certain texture to the after taste. Superb. Excellent restaurant, would definitely recommend and not too bad a price as well considering the high class interior and prime location in Canary Wharf."

"We had booked a table for 7.30 pm dinner and after waiting in line we’re shown to a table. The table next to us was very very loud and discussing business on a Saturday night. We could not hear each other above their din. After 30 minutes a waiter came to take our order and we asked for a quieter table. We were told to walk outside to the terrace. Essentially this is an area in the thoroughfare of the hotel (inside) behind a wooden low fence. After another 20 minutes I went to find a waiter who said he would come out to take our order. After another 10 minutes I went and found another server. The waiter I had seen before recognised me and hit his hand on his head and came out to us. The starter was delicious but we had to chase up the bottle of wine and never got our glasses of water. When the main course was delivered by a lady she said “Bon appetit” but we said we couldn’t eat without cutlery. She promised us some but we never saw her again. After 5 minutes my husband went and found cutlery because his fish and chips were getting cold. My shepherds pie was tasteless, lots of potato and a thin layer of lamb in a watery tasteless gravy. Nobody ever came back to check on us. They add a discretionary 12.5% tip for a service charge which I didn’t think they deserved so we took the bill to the desk and told the manager of our experience. He blames the management for trying to reduce staff and told us it was our own fault because we voted for Brexit. I pointed out to him I didn’t. He said it is like that every night. He removed the service charge and 20% off the food which was fair but next time I stay at the Sofitel I will bring a picnic and save a pot of money and disappointment."

"Service was ok, staff very nice. Food was bland and poorly cooked. Chicken wings had soft, soggy fat. Bruschetta the standard tomato was ok but the cheese version was horrific...thick slab of cold cheese topped with a sweet, generic sauce. The bread was cold. The pizzas were ok...but lacked flavour...poorly seasoned. The main of seafood cannelloni was horrific...a pool of pink sludge. The salad was limp and looked like it had been dressed for lunch not dinner! Desserts were shockingly bad. The Affogato was made with bland ice-cream and the crumb had drowned in the coffee. The sundae was akin to something your year old would produce with a few bottles of squeezy ice cream sauces and whipped cream...again, bland and sloppy. Finally, the pear tart was pale, soggy, flavourless. This is the third time we've eaten there and each time say, 'maybe it was an off night'. It appears all nights are off nights. It was our son's birthday and I had indicated this on the booking, but no reference was made to it at all. There was a billing mix up in the end which the staff handled well...so no issues there. All told, an awful experience, a birthday meal ruined. Will not go back and couldn't advise anybody else to either...given our experience. The menu needs an overhaul...perhaps removing things like chicken wings from an Italian would help. The cooking needs to be vastly improved. The ambiance is good, décor ok, staff friendly"
