"What a delight! First time to this branch. I travel a lot and often have to dine solo which I don't mind. Some restaurants single you out but CĂ´te Brasserie are very welcoming to all guests. Despite how busy they were on a Saturday evening, I was warmly greeted upon arriving, seated at a nice table and had excellent service throughout. Staff were attentive, yet left guests to dine in peace and enjoy their meal. I am a big fan of customer service. I have just come back from Japan where service is outstanding. I always find in the UK, we are one of the worse for service. However, CĂ´te Brasserie is starting to make me have faith again. Well done! Great menu of French classics but there are other options too including steaks and salads. Hearty but good food. Calories and nutritional information are displayed on the menu which is helpful. I had the vegan CĂ´te burger which came with frites. Freshly made, well presented and delicious. Messy to eat but so good. My Saturday treat! I actually felt shy when I fully cleaned up my plate but I was hungry and was looking forward to a burger. It delivered. I had a still water to drink so I was a bit healthy! Lovely branch with mainly indoor seating, plus a few tables outside. Lovely ambience and nice views too. They are busy given location so book a table. A lot of people were turned away or had to come back. Clean. Dessert looked good but I was stuffed. What CĂ´te have also done well is not put up prices too much, especially in comparison to competitors. Very reasonably priced. Highly recommend."

"A very happy accidental find. My family and I were trying to find a restaurant for dinner and this was our third attempt without a reservation. (We are tourists...who makes reservations in a country they don 't know?! Between the intermittent rain showers and the Fringe Festival going on, the crowds were everywhere. This place was off the Royal Mile so it seemed approachable enough. Anyway, we walked in cold, tired, and hungry. This place accommodated my family of four without a reservation. Yeah!! At first glance tres chic and bistro like setting. Two dining rooms one smaller for intimate groups of 2 or 4. Then the larger adjoining room for everyone else. It was quite lively in that room vs the more intimate room where we were seated. The food was excellent but the service was very lax. It took about 20 minutes before anyone came to our table to take our order even though in 2 minutes time after being seated, we were served flat water. Being annoyed now, as we watched a waitress going back and forth; no one came over to take our order. Soon, other tables seated after us all ordered (to be fair, they waited as well just not as long and yet we were last. Grr. Some confusion as it seems the one person that brought us the menus along with the water (with lemon, a plus was supposed to take our order. Not knowing he didn 't, the waitress we saw many times, assumed we did. I took my time oogling the menu over and over finalized my choices to the below, all were scrumptious. (Hence the 4 stars for a superb meal almost deducted a star for the lack of service in the beginning but they made up for it somewhat after . Believe me, the menu was so appetizing, it was hard to choose. Appetizers: seared scallops with black pudding, bacon and pureed peas... meaty and balanced (menu said crispy pancetta it was bacon strips same difference . The scallops were meaty, quite large in size and looked different from what I usually get in the US. These still had the coral still connected (see photo . So succulent. The pork rillets over salad (with toast it said but no toast came with . The plating looked like a pork belly stir fry over lettuce not quite pretty but definitely savory. A tad too salty for me but hubby liked it a lot. The meat was tender and flavorful. Every piece bite size and juicy. If this were an Asian establishment, I would think it would be great if served in lettuce cups. Onto our entrees: The duck with Drambuie and Raspberries I saw quite a few recommendations for this dish and it was a reoccurring photo on Yelp, so we had to try. The duck was roasted, medium well still pinkish color on some pieces. Some pieces were a tad tough to chew, especially for my son, but the flavors were on point. Beautifully plated and tasted just as good overall. I had the lamb loin and haggis figured I should try the National Signature meat while in Edinburgh, Scotland. For those that don 't know, Haggis is a mix of minced ingredients sheep 's heart, liver and lungs, combined with onions, suet, and spices. The lamb and haggis was wrapped in a puff pastry and served with a cracked pepper sauce. If only I had more puff pastry or bread, I would 've sopped up all that sauce. The lamb combined with the haggis was a superb combination. The lamb was not gamy at all; juicy and tender all around. I loved it. Hubby ordered the whole boneless sea bass. Presented en papillote (cooked and served in a paper wrapper , presentation was so inviting. The hot ginger gave it a nice tingly finish. And the accompanying prawns were quite sizeable. The dish resembled a Thai Curry to me both in color and smell. It was just the dish to hit the spot on a cold, damp evening. Given the slow service and lack of...we skipped on dessert. If only this place could pick up the pace, then it 'd be a 5 star experience. But many thanks to the manager that agreed to seat us. We still left a tip for the waitress given she looked overwhelmed. And while not obligatory to even having to leave a tip (UK is different than USA , we figured it was in good taste."

"Would advise that times of last food orders are made clearer as we had an unavoidable situation that meant we were 10 minutes late for our 7pm booking. When I telephoned 30 minutes prior to our booking to advise that we were going to be late I was told that the last food orders were at 7pm! We could pre order our food but I had already explained that 1 of our party was held up in traffic on the M1 so we couldn’t do that. Then I was told that the chefs had been working all day. To be frank that is not my problem as a customer why should I be made aware of that. I was annoyed it soured our evening which was a celebration of our children’s birthdays. The booking system should be explicit as to when last food orders are or not allow you to book a table at that exact time, but earlier. Then my husband’s rump steak was inedible. He sent it back was given a sirloin as a replacement which was fine. However when the waitress came back to ask if my husband would like another steak she said that the chef “agreed” that the steak was of a poor standard. What a strange thing to say! Surely you would say that the chef apologises would like to know if he/she could prepare something else for him. A disappointing evening. My husband I visited the pub in early August 2020 for our wedding anniversary the overall standard was much better at that time."

"It was ok over all. The starters were superb, really good. The main courses were amazingly ordinary and disappointing. My steak was a medium rare fillet. It was accurately medium rare but strangely dry , almost as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp and it had very little flavour. I had a lemon meringue pie where meringue was wet and sloppy and the pastry was as if ready cooked from a supermarket. My companion had a slow cooked lamb shank which is usually an easy winner but again it was dry with a sauce which had been poured over it and then congealed. . A slow cooked lamb shank usually has the wonderful juices in which it has slowly come to fruition. The food came with minimal vegetables . Side dishes were ostentatiously expensive. As is the whole menu. We paid ÂŁ180 for three people including the tip. Enough for a bargain weekend away somewhere. As a family we have dined in some amazing restaurants and understand the costs involved at times and pay willingly when the experience is special. But the whole way through this meal it was short of great. The waiters were friendly and attentive but far too eager to top up your wine glass. It became a nuisance and a pressure. Half a glass does not need topping up to the brim. To top things off for me I went to the ladies at 10.35 at the end of our meal . There is only one toilet for the whole restaurant. There was a cleaning person in the loo. spraying the most toxic and pungent fumes. Having entered this airless cubicle, two lungs full of Izal or what ever chemical obliterated all memory of the meal and the wine. At 10.35? The inference also being that I was not required on the premises any longer. The Maitr d' was charming and as friendly and helpful as he could be. 5 stars for him! The situation was lovely and we had a table by the window. However the experience did not in any measure add up to the lush advertisement online and was very very expensive at the price."

"Tonight my husband and I came to the restaurant for a meal. It’s our 10th Wedding Anniversary and my husband had booked a table with yourselves as over the years we have had lovely meals at the restaurantUnfortunately tonight wasn’t such an experience. I don’t usually write emails but out of pure annoyance and frustration I find myself writing this one. The whole experience from us arriving to us leaving was one of great disappointment. There was a larger group of diners on the mezzanine floor, we were told by our waitress once seated she would be back in 2 or 3 minutes to take out drinks order, this was way more as she then helped serve mains to the group booking. Our menus were different when we opened them, my husbands had no starters page, we had to ask for a correct menu, once Katie came back she then took our meal choices and drinks order. My husband ordered a Budweiser to which we were told she wasn’t sure if they sold Bud and she would find out. I ordered a Mojito. We were informed there was no Bacardi so I couldn’t have my drink, I chose a processco, the drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive, however when they did, there was a mojito as turns out you did have barcardiOur antipasta was served and before we’d finished and it could clearly be seen we weren’t, we were asked if we had finished. I replied no and waitress went off, we’d hardly finished our mouthfuls and again she was over asking if we’d finished. Plates were cleared and our mains turned up shortly after. Mains were sea bass and pulledPork with a side order of sautéed veg. We were disappointed by the meals but neither of us said to each other at the time as we were trying to make the most of the evening even though we were already disappointed by being left and then rushed to eat our antipasta. Our meals had clearly sat under heat lamps/ or a hot plate as we hadn’t finished quick enough with the antipasta as the skin on the sea bass had burn marks from Heat lamps, the mash was stodgy and the peas were burnt. My husband later told me the pork ball was all soggy as had been sat on the jus that was on the plate. Both meals were bland and lacked seasoning and certainly wasn’t up the standard we expected. When this was cleared away, we were asked if we wanted desserts, when we replied no, we were told ok I’ll bring the bill!!! When the bill came and the card machine was brought over, we were run asked if we wanted to tip!!!!! Surely that is not something you should be asking in such an abrupt manner???????????from arriving to leaving was roughly a hour, at no point was this a relaxing celebration meal, it was rushed, we were made to feel an inconvenience and had ruined our evening. my husband and I had both kept quiet at our disappointment as not to ruin the evening for each other, however I was upset when got outside and I nearly came back in to talk to the management. My husband told me to leave it but I’ve come home and decided I wanted to let you know how poor of an experience you delivered tonight as would hate other diners to have to have the same and also a thanks for running what was meant to be a celebration meal/evening"

"So, I have been here once before the food was absolutely AMAZING and I have been really looking forward to coming here again The lobster last time was the most amazing lobster I have ever eaten in the UK. a good size, cooked to...perfection! On this occasion sadly, I feel as though the standard has completely dropped. The lobster was mushy which suggests it had not been stored properly (this usually happens when the lobster has been killed and left in the fridge for too long so the enzymes begin to break down the meat) I also found a hair at the side of my plate I let the waiter know and he just said ‘at least it’s not on your food, and wiped it off with his finger’ no apology that was it. I said nothing after this because I could sense by his energy that me saying anything more was going to become a battle I didn’t not have the energy for on this occasion Anyway I started writing my review and the waiter had seen so said ‘it’s that about me’ so I explained to him my concerns with the food. And he said ‘ok don’t damage the business’ He also explained that it’s the same chef etc but in all honesty that’s none of my business, from having such an amazing experience before to this. I am deeply disappointed. He did remove a apple juice and the service charge from the bill and apologised that the food was not the same and hoped we would have a better experience next time. This didn’t do much as I didn’t plan on paying the service charge anyway. Unfortunately I won’t be returning as that was a waste of on a unsatisfactory meal for people."

"I booked originally for 6pm and had to change to 6:30pm due to traffic. I hadn’t confirmed The new booking so the host could not find a booking for us. It was my father’s birthday and I was really worried I had messed it up. The host, was fine and was still able to get us seated, we were very pleased with that. We were given a choice of tables, and as a larger guest, I was able to be seated comfortably. We’re we’re served by Tom. S ,for the evening. OMG! What a charming and delightful waiter. He was attentive, had great banter and held a wonderful conversation, wished my father a happy birthday, and tended to my wine being filled up all evening. He made us feel wonderful, and made me feel like a million dollars. The food was absolutely superb, French onion soup was perfectly seasoned, the croutons were Devine along with a salty cheese. Loaded with sweet onions: The liver parfait my husband had was delicious he said. My dad and husband had the beef bourguignon, and I had the chicken, gratin with a side of dauphinois potatoes… Again… absolutely perfect. The service here was top notch, and Tom.S made our first experience at Côte the best. He is a first class waiter, that I would compare to the the likes of The Ritz and The Savoy. Fantastic personality, and very well groomed and presented. What a fabulous and marvellous team member you have there. Cherish that! We will definitely return, and recommend this restaurant highly. 5 Service from Tom.S and the chef."
