"errrrmmm having been here a couple of times, must say i enjoyed my previous visit better! the restaurant is what it sets out to be a quick fast, casual diner for a simple lunch and the food was good, but the service could have been a lot better...firstly the maitre d (and waiter sits at a table that is NOT in sightline of the guests! so whenever you want smtg you have go find him. the music was dire (jazz so has to ask him to change that...no atmosphere at all, which is difficult with too few guests and the area is a bit of a building site right now (local tube Lancaster Gate is shut...would have been nice if the restaurant or OT had told us that when we booked! we need good restaurants in this area devoid of anything decent"

"I don't go more than once a year to the island grill, but visit my daughter at very special locations. this was the first visit since the pandemic began and while I was a little disturbed by the inflated prices, I was confident. the much outdated cook would be worth it. I was wrong. overall the service was slow and inattentive, which could perhaps be apologised as the place was packed. the squealing waiting and kitchen staff was however unacceptable, strengthened by our position directly under the servierluke. the roasted cod was bland and tasteless and the tomato could also come from a dose. £6 extra for the side would have been acceptable, but the kartoffels were a scandal. credit where credits were due, the carrots were good. my daughter enjoyed the lamb curry and burger, but they were not better than averaged and the same could be said for the deserts. £34 for a nasty bottle of sauvignon blanc was insulting to say the least. the Gents toilet was like a war zone, with fabrics and other objects discarded on the floor, a broken toilet roll holder and nowhere to dry my hands. the whole experience came with a 12.5% service fee. keep your heads in shame."

"Now out-of-towners, we come up to London for matinees at the National, and lunch beforehand at House. This place is more than excellent. Welcoming, efficient (as they must be, everyone eating has a deadline to be in their theatre seat) and the food is inventive...and absolutely delicious. I had smoked duck with red cabbage (it was the red cabbage that put The Other Half off that dish, but when he tasted mine he had a re-think) with a puree that would give even red cabbage a good name. I then had cod, perfectly cooked, with a clam or two and a delicious sauce and wonderful mash. TOH had sea food or fish pasta dumplings of some sort, they too were delicious, and the cod too. He had a pudding which he loved, and I had cheese. It was truly lovely, and reasonably priced. Thanks to all at House."

"As the gentleman sat in the table next to me put it, the restaurant could easily get away with serving whatever as people would come anyway. But they don't serve whatever. It was my third visit since the NT restaurant reopened as House, and each time I was amazed how good the food is this time was no different. I dined alone, service was sleek and discreet and made me feel at ease despite being late for my reservation and having only an hour before the preformance. The cured mackerel was a delight, very palatable with a silky and creamy mash and gentle textures of beets. Cod was cooked to perfection, its melt in the mouth flesh flaky and skin crispy, balancing beautifully with a squash puree, romanesco and a sprinkling of toasted pumpkin seeds for a bit of crunch. Have a go pre show or as a standalone experience if you fancy clever seasonal cooking at reasonable prices. A lot of places in London get away with higher prices and charging you more for it. A standing ovation indeed."

"I got my friend there for a birthday contract. The man at the reception was not very friendly. Looks like he didn't want to be there. I wanted to take a place in the reception area and bring us drinks menu. We ordered two teas. They came to our small table in the reception area without teaspoon or sugar just a little milkpot. We were then brought along the main menu we didn't want as we wanted the afternoon tea menu. He brought this and we said we wanted the afternoon tea. Then he told us we have to book this in advance! I was not given the opportunity to book any meal online. We just died to order scene. They were taken to the table at the reception to ask if we could sit in the main restaurant, what they said we could. We had to bring our pot of tea and cups etc. to the restaurant. There were only three other people there all the time. The food was okay. Scones very small for the price. It was cold, no music and no atmosphere. The staff was not over friendly and we couldn't wait to go. Will not disturb getting back what a shame is, because the attitude is very beautiful."

"We enjoyed afternoon tea, which was quite good, but the experience was tainted by the quality of the surroundings. We were seated in the lounge area where a business meeting was taking place. While we don't mind sharing the space, the overall ambiance left much to be desired. It would be better if a section could be designated specifically for afternoon tea, especially since we weren't the only guests participating. The table would have looked much nicer with a tablecloth, adding a touch of elegance that would have enhanced the experience. While the afternoon tea itself was very enjoyable, I regret to say that the lack of ambiance took away from the overall enjoyment."

We were then served our drinks and meal by someone else who was, if anything, a little too solicitous! We were told that “the chef is ready for you now” and were moved to our table (with our drinks), only to have quite a wait in a very empty dining room before even the amuse bouche was served. This was a shame as the lounge area had been cosy and comfortable! The smell of lilies near our table was rather overpowering but I really should have mentioned this at the time. All in all, I would return, but would also consider other places as well."

"We booked an afternoon tea for 3 in the Double tree Hilton Stafford on Avon. When we sat, we served an afternoon tea for two. There are only enough cakes, sandwiches for 2. When we asked, they said it was for 2 people and then brought us 'extra' cake. We had to ask for some sandwiches, as I said, we would be happy to pay for it. They also brought us sandwiches. On the booking the menu said that there are going to serve Scones (as you do in most afternoon tea) and Macaroons and Madalines as part of the deserts. However, we were served with butter and jam. And no Macaroons or Madalines. We were disappointed as we were expecting Scones and Macaroon and an afternoon tea for 3 and our expectations were not met as per offer. However, the food tasted good."
