"the bar area was very busy and loud and our table was right next to a slot machine. confusion about my drink order, three try to get it right! the setting of a senior server was disappointing-didn not smile and seemed as if we would annoy them! eating was also extremely disappointing, as it was not better than a heat and the possibility of supply. there are no prices on the website menu and when I saw £1500 for the smokey joe burger my expectations were high. but my food came as a burger with undercut speck (not crispy as advertised) with a few fries! no extra bbq dip and no sign of the melted cheese and slowly cooked bark in a smokey sauce! we also ordered the grilled chicken and chorizo skewers, but the huh had not seen, a grill it was just white pieces of pure boiled chicken and the garn and calamari duo was over boiled / roasted pieces of food that were just bought from every super market frozen gang! we couldn't expect to get out of there!"

"Very disappointing roast. A small portion of grey tasteless beef which certainly had not been cooked fresh. Roast potatoes were not crispy, gravy tasteless and cauliflower cheese at additional charge had a cheese from a packet flavour. Booked this place based on reviews. Shocking. Surprised how quiet it was, perhaps the chef was taking leave in January!! Definitely don’t recommend."

"Decided to give this place another chance after a previous poor meal but others have recommended it. Booked a festive menu for Christmas Eve and paid a deposit. Upon arrival (early afternoon and the restaurant was empty) we were told they had run out of...festive menu, and we should have reserved one with a deposit. I explained that I had paid a deposit but was then told this had not reserved the festive menu? Decided to make the most of it as we were very unlikely to get in anywhere else at this late stage. However, the first dishes we tried to order they had run out of. Wanted to go out for a roast dinner, ended up having a (not very good) steak (without any sauce as they had run out of that too… When my steak arrived, it clearly hadn’t been rested, as my plate was swimming in blood. However the steak was also cold, so I have no idea how they managed to serve a cold steak which hadn’t been rested? The lady who served us was extremely apologetic, but I must admit that despite her best efforts, we will not be back."

"Food was nice but asked to get 2 desserts to take away, absolutely disgraceful! Dessert was wrapped in tin foil! Had to send the Eaton Mess back as there was NO meringue, just whipped cream from a can and a bit of raspberry sauce and when I got it in a container there was about a tablespoon of meringue on top! The bottom of the container is about the size of my palm!! Two mouthfuls and it was gone!! The cheesecake was smaller then the size of a pen and very dry/stale. The price I paid for it, £5.75 EACH!!! Was not even worth the price of one. Never again"

"Our children took us here to celebrate my wife's upcoming birthday. We ordered our food, and at the same time we told the member of staff that was taking our order that we had a voucher via email for free dessert for all within the group. When asking to pay the bill, we was asked to show the email with the free dessert, my wife who had the voucher via email was asked by the waitress if she could take her phone and show this to a Member of staff, not sure if she was a manager, but she was not the most happiest person in the pub, she even came over and asked my wife if she could forward the email to an address so they could look into this, as they were not aware of this, yes they onourd the offer, but made us feel very uncomfortable about it. I will say the food was great, but the atmosphere was not so good, all the staff was ignoring each other, like it was all there first day on the job. We will not be going there again, first time, last time."

"Had lunch today at the King's Head. On arrival, the bar service was good. Sat at a window seat... it was not good to see a dirty table chair with stains on the seat... Food ordered easily, but such a disappointment; fish chips...should be simple to cook, but so little fish and so much batter all dry... Also the King's Head was so noisy with children screaming.... There was an event nearby cordoned off, but this made not difference. Despite this being our local, we won't return in a hurry. Management with respect take this comment on board. A one off function may pay a lot, but locals calling in regularly is better in the long run…."

"My son and partner are going to Australia for a long time . Without considering the quality of The Grapes purely because over the last 40 years , it’s been high standard I booked a farewell dinner I am so disappointed, the Sunday Roast was not a Sunday Roast , When you needed a drink , the bar people were non existent ! The new management took a while to realise I would like to put some money in the till ! The toilet had doors broken off , the place is so run down and tired . I’m gutted such an amazing Icon pub in Formby has been left to rot! The food cost £17 per head and was disgusting I’m so sorry to complain but it’s the worse quality, I have ever had in my life"

"great location and properties prefer by a food hygiene problem. while a main course was good, the other, a caesars salate was full of salat leaves, which obviously did not wash dirt nor stalk. service pleasant enough, but they do not tell them when they order their food that cutlery can be picked up at the door. as a result when they supply the food to their table outside, there are no cutlery with him, so they tell them to go in and get it, which rather defeats the point of the table service. would have been helpful if they had mentioned that cutlery was available at the door when food was ordered."

"Went for Breakfast in the Queens head this morning by accident because no where else in Frodsham seemed to do traditional breakfast. We ordered the traditional breakfast, when it arrived my husband and I were shocked it was massive only £7.50) it was gorgeous but we couldn't eat it all. "Late review. Unfortunately the reviews regarding the rude manager are correct. Came In with a friend for a quick drink and was shouted at by this lady as we came in from the wrong way and then to be told they’re not accepting customers as they were closing that’s absolutely fine however there were tables filled with people in and outside. This was my first time at this place. I decided to leave straight away it was such a rude encounter that as I was walking outside with my friend, another colleague came running out to apologise for the managers behaviour. I hate to bring race into this but this was the only thing that differed from myself/my mate and everyone else in this pub. Having said that, after reading others reviews, it seems like the manager just doesn’t have the basic skills and etiquette to provide a reasonably decent customer service. How on earth you’ve managed to get a job in management is beyond me. Advice to manager doctors are here to help. Support is available, just try not to shout when requesting your chill pills."

"The reservation process was straightforward, and our table for six was ready upon arrival. The staff were attentive and very helpful. "We've drank and eaten in this pub since moving to the area 8 years ago. It's always had potential, with a seperate dining room, bar and outside area but nobody has ever put the effort in... Until Now! Visiting today, the dining area has been re-decorated, pool table re-surfaced, new TVs, outside area going through a refit etc. New beer lines being added.. This should soon be a contender to the popular locals Red Lion and Markeaton. Bar staff always friendly and approachable, great family pub. Speaking to the new manager, it's clear he cares about the pub doing well, and is already putting in the hard work. It's a Stonegate pub, so you get the great food and prices and regular updates to the menu. I mean who can go wrong with a alcoholic drink and burger for less than £10! Weely quiz every Thursday which you can do on your smartphone and play for big prizes nationally. Keep up the good work and we wish you every success for the future"

"Really nice pub, great views of the whole of Portsmouth. The good first, food and service was excellent, 100% recommend! Now the sad bit. My sister and her husband booked this pub for our mothers wake. Many of our guests (15ish) didn 't get their desserts even though it was charged for. The bar staff said we could purchase another dessert as the table 17 tab (our tab) was now closed. We were told the reason was we didn 't eat fast enough and they now didn 't have staff to make the desserts. About 30 mins later the manager came over and offered us a refund on all the people who didn 't get a dessert. He did confirm the desserts were charged for under the table 17 tab. Yes many of us were frustrated, we said it was ok to keep the money and we left. Very saddened to write a review like this."
