"I rated the restaurant on earlier visit when I had their normal menu. her eating was absolutely delicious. unfortunately I went there christmas eve and online booked was not aware that they only served a set menu. because my family did not eat on the menu except truthahn that we had the next day, we decided not to stay. the staff was very gracious and we felt terrible, but I recommend this restaurant when it served its normal menu."

"Had such a lovely evening here! We booked as a large group of 10 for a birthday and the staff were so accommodating as we had to previously cancel and had a few last minute cancellations in our party too on the day. Such a good atmosphere, so upbeat and really lively. Music playing loudly all night we even danced and sang along with other tables. Would definitely recommend for a fun night!"

"We were sat upstairs, on a table for 2. My friend and I were disturbed on several occasions throughout the evening, by staff moving tables and chairs around for larger tables seemed a little unorganised if I’m honest. I was even asked to get up out of my seat to allow the staff to pass with a table, which I found rude frustrating… and had to ask if I could sit back down now that they had finished! Staff shouted around us about tables and accepting bookings “when they didn’t have the space to accommodate people”.. quite unprofessional. The upstairs area definitely wasn’t big enough for the amount of customers they had agreed again lead to disruption throughout our meal. Staff also stood over us right by us throughout the night, which again was off putting. All of the above ruined our ‘experience’ at MayHills and would probably stop me from returning to the restaurant. I’ve heard such good things but it didn’t live up to what I was expecting. And as for the food, it was nice but nothing extraordinary, same goes for the cocktails."

"Considering there was only a max of 20 allowed to dine in, service was extremely poor. No cutlery on the tables, no direction on how to order as the couple next to us told us we had to go inside the restaurant to order. Staff were not great at providing a nice environment to sitting customers. Would not go back again."

"Unfortunately very disappointed with the meal we had here on Saturday2 Sept 23. Having been in the past we were really looking frwd to our treat at this hotel and a meal at the 'Marco Pierre White ' steakhouse. After placing our order for the fillet steaks we not only had to wait 50 minutes for any food to arrive (we were seated as it opened so not many other diners were there) but then the under average meal arrived. The Koffman fries were absolutely inedible. They were burnt with grease coming out of them and most were small burnt ends and looked disgusting (see photos). We mentioned this to our waiter when he came to check and he offered to bring new fries. We waited another 10 minutes for these to arrive but by then our steaks were eaten as they were getting cold. The waiter should of taken our plates away and got rid of the old fries, but instead he left them on our plates. The new fries were not alot better and we didn 't eat many due to the meal now being ruined! The waiter then bought us the bill. I just couldn 't believe we were about to pay nearly £80 for a meal that was utterly disappointing. I made an error here by paying the bill in full then thought I would go and speak to the manager. This was a big mistake. After waiting another 10 minutes to speak to someone the manager came over and said all she can offer is 20% off next time we visit. I told her this will not be happening and we won 't return. She said nothing else can be done and didn 't even offer a refund of the chips. I was disgusted and told her that if I had known this I would not of paid the bill at all until I had spoken to her, I felt dubed and angry, we even paid the service charge, added without us asking. As the restaurant manager surely she would have a small amount of discretion to offer something back to us??? I really don 't think it was to much to ask for? She just said she couldn 't offer anything else, which I don 't believe for one minute. I asked how I can escalate this further and she told me I can speak to hotel reception. We went back to our room and decided to ask for the manager when checking out in the morning. I spoke to the guest relations manager when we checked out, to be fair he did listen and take down notes and my contact details. He assured me he would look into this and come back to me. He accepted the restaurant manager was wrong in not dealing with this the previous evening. After 5 days of no contact from him I emailed to chase it up, then another 2 days (1 week had now passed) I decided to email the hotel chain direct to pass on my complaint and gave them all the details in an email. Two hours later I finally had a response from the guest relations manager. Although he apologised I was refunded just £13! From an £80 meal, absolutely unbelievable. Due to these circumstances and the way it was handled I cant recommend this hotel or steakhouse and will definitely not be returning. This is a restaurant backed by a 3 star michilin chef hence you expect good service and quality food, especially for the higher price you pay, seems like we were just paying for the name! Very disappointed"

"I booked in for a Bollywood night. There was 4 of us, 2 people are meat eaters and 2 people are vegans. When I booked online as suggested by a member of staff when I called, as if they couldn 't do it over the phone (all the bookings where hand written on a piece of paper when we got there, oh and the only thing that was noted is that i paid £20 deposit but not the fact that our table required vegan based menu) in the notes section online I specifically said we will require a vegan menu. When we were seated at the table the waiter didn 't give us a drinks menu or a set food menu for us to look at. When they served food I questioned about which one was a vegan option, the staff looked very confused they didn 't know what I was talking about. Asked to speak to a manager, the waiter didn 't even bother getting the manager so I had get up to find someone only to discover that the manager was not available as he was in the kitchen busy, im sure that he was completely unaware that there is a table that required a vegan option menu. A lovely female member of staff came out from the kitchen assuring me that there is vegan based menu, trust me there wasn 't. The starter was ok, but to have 2 potato dishes, cauliflower and lentils as a main with £40 ahead and no desert, for a restaurant its pretty appalling. The menu for meat eaters was ok, really not worth £40 ahead. Now we get to the service... poor doesn 't even describe it. Chef came across as having an attitude every time he attended the table. It did not feel very welcoming or accommodating towards our needs, and it came across as a bother. After the mains We were not even asked about deserts, I had to get up and ask if there is any deserts to come, 2 of us had a desert, which was ok, too frozen couldn 't even use a spoon but for vegan option all we got As a desert is coffee black, couldn 't even have milk as had no other milks available.£80 for a standard of vegan options we had was absolutely outrageous. Most waiters didn 't really understand if you asked them a simple question, all we got is I go and get someone but that someone never came. I never write reviews because opinions do vary, but after this meal I was extremely disappointed with the restaurant atmosphere, attitude and just simply not valuing their customer. There was only one lady that worked there behind the bar that actually was helpful and pleasant."

"I have been here before with my family to celebrate a birthday and we could not fault a thing. Decided to treat my friend to a meal out and again the food and service were excellent. The only down side to this visit was that we had a early booking and the restaurant was cold. By the time we left the room had started to fill up and was a bit warmer."

"We arrived in good time for our reservation having traveled up from London. Our table had a window view of the canal and tow path. Our waiter was friendly and was able to give us information on our choice of dishes. Our starters were quite good although the prawns were smothered in too much sauce which made for rather messy eating. Our main dishes were traditional British fare and included the Fish and Chips with mushy peas which were good and served in good time. The evening went well as the restaurant section of the pub filled up and this lead to a nice ambiance. The bill for four was quite reasonable considering we enjoyed two bottles of their New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. We would certainly go back when we are in Birmingham again."

"So much went wrong but it was quite funny. Both staff members were new for a start but nice with it even apologised for their incompetence. While ordering my food, they realised their card machine wasn't working so I had to pack up my belongings to go to the ATM. Second try at ordering my food and they couldn't answer any of my questions except for one. I reminded them there was a discount theatre goers and received blank looks. I pointed out it was written on the blackboard outside so one of them went to check. Meantime the other tried to work out the till without a great deal of success but they got there eventually. Unfortunately when my food arrived, it was slightly wrong but easily corrected. It tasted OK and was acceptable but not sure about the quality of the ingredients."

"Vegan food wasn’t without milk so couldn’t have the vegan meal If it is advertised as vegan, it should be vegan not then altered so that two components don’t go together. Sat totally separated from everyone else, waiter refused to move us despite there being lots of room. We were only a table of 2 and sat in our own, cut off section. Our friends invited us to join their long table, this was refused. No vegan puddings. One waiter was very helpful with my dietary requirements. Food arrived but chips were swiftly removed as apparently they weren’t for me and new ones arrived some time later. Overall, a really disappointing meal."

"I absolutely love everything about the duck and rice. The food is incredible, offering an amazing selection of vegan and vegetarian options. The staff are always so helpful and I love the decor and the cool Soho vibe. It is certainly my number one place to go, especially as they let dogs in and made my dog feel very much at home.. Just love.. love love.. Thank you Duck and Rice, don’t ever change..xxx"

"Considering you’re up London and paying over the odds to begin with for food. You’d think the chefs would have at least been trained in cooking. I know shock horror that I’d expect a chef to be chef trained Firstly I cannot fault the waitress. It’s not her fault. She done her job well. Even memorised the order without writing it down. Witchcraft I know but I thought I’d let it slide as I want to remain mythioglocl nuetral and not offend the spirit world If you do attend this hell hole for drinks I think you’ll be just fine because the beers were good. However the food was so bad I think a child could have whipped up something better with a cooking set from the Early Learning Shop. My hunters chicken was horrendous, it was so over cooked team GB could have used it as an Olympic discus and won gold The waitress did offer to get me a new one but why would I want it again, it took them mins to make this, why would I want to wait another minutes for the same pathetic attempt However of the boys had the fish finger sandwich which looked alright. Nice to know for they can cook birds eye fish fingers and cut slices of bread. All in a days work or a top chef I guess. Overall I wouldn’t go back if you didn’t get the gist of the this rant Over and out"

"FLIP served up one of the best vegan roasts I have ever eaten in my life. There were 2 of us and we ordered one portion of the nut roast and one portion of the vegan Wellington dish options and shared them between us. Both were equally tasty and served up with wonderfully roasted potatoes, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage, and Kale, along with a generous jug of gravy. Very decently priced at £11.95/12.95 as the portion sizes were great. We shared a vegan cheese board afterwards on which 5 different cheeses were presented alongside flatbreads, a large portion of chutney and some grapes. The service was brilliant really friendly and helpful people work at Flip. The deli is really well presented and a relaxed and calm environment to dine in. We're definitely coming back! Thank you everyone at Flip Food for a wonderful place to eat vegan."
