"I booked a table for 8 people on a Wednesday evening, never having been to the Blackberry Grove before one of our group was vegan one was vegan and a Coeliac there was nowhere else on the Wirral I could think of that would be able to accommodate this. When we arrived the table was not ready the booking seemed to take the staff by surprise however they very quickly pushed two tables together for our party. There was a pub quiz in full swing which was unexpected however someone else in our group had seen on the website that this would be taking place at first it seemed a little noisy but in the interval we took the opportunity to join in and this added an extra fun element to our evening. There was a Wed night offer on fish and chips but the fish had sold out so the same offer was applied to any burgers we ordered as most of our party ordered burgers this was appreciated. The food was very good, the service was excellent (nothing was too much trouble) and the atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed. Once the staff realised it was my son's birthday they brought him over a Blackberry Special cocktail on the house. I would definitely eat here again and am looking forward to trying the Sunday roasts which have been recommended by a friend. A small criticism was that the bread/oils/olive starter was disappointing/poor value the olives were just the pitted black green kind from a jar in brine. I would also suggest perhaps offering a vegan/vegetarian option on the dessert menu. Overall we had a lovely evening and I was very pleased with the decision to go there."

"The food here is fabulous. The place is only let down by the service. My 3 stars are for the chef and their team in the kitchen. We had a seafood platter to start which had some amazing tastes. The best thing on that platter being the smoked mackerel pate. For mains I had the lamb burger with goats cheese and my husband had the pie of the day (chicken and tarragon) both bursting with flavour and beautifully cooked. All the food eaten was excellent value for money. The decor here is quirky love the bottle covered ceiling. Seating is nicely arranged. This place should be getting 5 stars every time if it were not for the staff serving. Numerous times we had to try and get the attention of the numerous young ladies serving. They were so busy chatting that we would have to go to the bar to pay as none of them were looking up to notice numerous people putting their hands up to get service. The room too was getting quite cold before we left. I thought it was the large gap under the fire exit near our table, but it would turn out to be the door to the beer garden that was wide open that was making everyone near it put on their coats (luckily we were sat quite a way from it). If the staff had been paying attention they would surely have closed the door. Some staff training would go a long way in this restaurant. I’m sure ourselves and others would have spent a lot more on drinks and food if we’d been able to get served and had the place been warm enough with the simple closure of a door."
