"Arrived with no reservation on a busy Saturday night, we were old if we ordered a drink and were happy to wait we could sit outside, it was a lovely evening so we did so. We waited maybe 25 minutes and they managed to squeeze us in as it was just two of us wanting a quick main meal. The food was really delicious and the staff good although it did take 20 minutes to our order to be taken. The restaurant it is really loud, the music is far too loud alongside the open kitchen the general chat of a busy restaurant. We got the bill and as we were in a rush we quickly looked at he total, left a 10% cash tip and left. It wasn't until the next day i realised they had already added 12.50% tip to the bill. So they in fact got nearly a £16 tip. I really dislike places that do that and i am kicking myself for not noticing at the time. Tipping should be up to the customer, not the restaurant. It has put me off returning."

"Starter portions fairly small. Mushrooms were tasty but 'only ' 2 each!? The Chateau-Briand for two was very good but the sauces were tame and small in size as were the portions of sauteed potatoes. The chicken was fairly mundane. Overall the service was reasonably attentive but spoiled by having to ask for a coffee refill of a small cup which appeared frowned upon. Overall, a little old fashioned, unchanged in years perhaps. It could do with some updating and focus on improving value for money, such as increased portion sizes."

"We visited Sophias to celebrate our friends 38th wedding anniversary on Thursday. The venue is clean and the decor reflects the ambience they are trying to create. We ordered from a very friendly and helpful waitress 3 of 'Sophias Mushrooms ' and one lamb Souvlaki. The food was presented well and tasted lovely however I would suggest that the quantity of mushrooms be increased by at least a couple as the mushrooms had all long gone while I was still enjoying the Souvlaki. Mains were Steak Diane, Fillet steak, Cod, and the Pork all cooked to perfection and in quantities that compensated for the smaller starters. Excellent! We all had a desert and the two chocolate mousse was divine, the Creme brulee went down well, the chocolate brownie? is unlikley to be a repeat for the recipient but the cheeseboard for two was outstanding! Service was good throughout. The only lost star is because we were the only diners in at the time which is a shame as it does reduce the ambience and atmosphere. On a plus side we could all hear each other! We will be back again and hope to see others enjoying the food as well."

"This was the most wonderful dining experience. We arrived without a booking and they found room for us, brought us some bread and olives whilst we waited on our food and when the food came, it was genuinely the best meal I can remember having. I had the Balmoral chicken and savoured every bite and the desserts were fantastic too. The prices are not low (for the a la carte menu) so be prepared for that if you're looking for somewhere that doesn't cost too much its worth looking at their other menus and booking but I would pay for the a la carte menu again, the food is that good! Well worth the price and we will definitely be back."

"Last minute booking with family to celebrate my sons birthday I really couldn’t have asked for more. This was an exceptional restaurant experience. The first thing that attracted us was the images in the gallery on the website and it looks even...better in the flesh. Beautifully decorated and with a great ambiance I didn’t want to leave. The staff were helpful, attentive and friendly. Bringing a cake with us and asking if they could light some candles and bring it to the table was no trouble at all and were happy to join in with the singing. But I’m going to leave the best to last the food! There were of us ordering starters, mains, sides and desserts and every dish was as mouthwatering and delicious as the next. Authentic Italian food of sizeable portions there were very happy customers. I would urge anyone in the area to go I’m just sorry I don’t live closer as I would love to visit more often. The fact that I’m thinking of travelling from just outside of Edinburgh to Glasgow just for another meal here shows you how good it is. Bellissimo!!"

"My husband and I wanted a meal that wasn’t through a chained restaurant. We found Il Borgo on the off chance and it was the best find we’ve ever made! The staff were so welcoming and the food was put of this world. The pizza...was absolutely delicious and no doubt the best I’ve ever tasted. Slightly annoyed with myself for not ordering something different from the menu and trying a different Italian dish. Would certainly come back when I’m next in London!!"
