"Disappointing. My son raved about this place as he is a regular patron, so we decided to take the family along for his birthday. Nice ambience, but quite cramped table. Ordered food and drinks. Drinks took ages to arrive and then only half of them, had to wait another ten minutes for the others. Starters arrived and two of them were wrong, so they had to go back and we had to wait for the two correct dishes to be cooked and delivered. Then we had to wait a further 50 minutes for the main course to arrive. We was told on numerous occasions that the mains were just being plated up but that took over 15 minutes, and even then my Calzone didn 't arrive for a further five minutes after all the other mains. Kudos to the staff/managers I could see them going mental in the kitchen about it, but when my Calzone did arrive it was incredibly doughy and undercooked, I ate about 2/3rds of it as I was hungry, but left the rest, mentioned it to the, what I assume was the manager, she took it away and I could see the kitchen staff performing an autopsy on it, but they didn 't come out and give me a verdict. Still was charged full price for it. Will not be returning. Lots of better Italian restaurants in the area, even some of the chain restaurants are better than this.. Felt sorry for my son and he kept apologising to me and saying it 's not usually like this , so didn 't make a fuss as it was his birthday why should he apologise for a bad restaurant experience? Doubt the restaurant will reply to this review as they tried to distance themselves/ignore the issues that were very apparent."

"We have been to this restaurant on different occasions over many years and were booked in for Christmas Dinner, second sitting this year 2023. We have always been well looked after. Sadly this Christmas was a complete let down with a hugely disappointing, very expensive Christmas meal. We arrived as requested at 3.30pm and were taken to our table where cutlery and crockery were missing. Although the table was finally set we still had to request crackers during the meal and additional cutlery. While the starters were enjoyed we were not offered bread, although watched other tables being offered it. Our order of 5 turkey mains were varying in size, either just 2 to 4 sprouts , not ‘vegetables’ as advertised and just a few halves of small roasted new potatoes, rather thin slices of turkey, one cocktail chipolata. No sauces offered. The vanilla crème brûlée which was advertised as being served with a blood orange sorbet. It was infact served with strawberry ice cream and no notification by waiting staff that there was a change on the menu. The crème brûlée had no burnt sugar on it . The tables were packed tightly and to the point staff had difficulty in manoeuvring around everyone. I really felt for the young staff who were trying their best. When booking we had asked if they wanted us to pre book our meals, but said it wasn’t needed . Most probably the manager had not thought through correct quantities required for Christmas Day, and the result was a very poor offering. Sadly our patronage will now not be supporting this local business."

"Excellent authentic Italian food, celebrating the best of artisan regional cooking in diverse ways. The ingredients are imported from Italy so you can really taste the difference. We started with Espresso Martini as our aperitivo and chose it with a twist; a hint of coconut it was the best one we've ever had! For small plates we had octopus carpaccio with pepper celery salad, and red golden beetroot salad with kohlrabi goats cheese. Both small plates were gorgeous and the flavours were mindblowing. We continued with bowls of fresh pasta: Norma di paesan (aubergines, stracciatella, pine nuts basil), Ragu di manzo (mafalde with slow roasted wild beef shin ragu) and Ravioli bicolore (crayfish, prawn mascarpone with a tomato bisque). These stunning pasta dishes had the real traditional Italian taste, so you felt like being in Italy. Paesan can also make gluten free pasta or gnocchi on request. We recommend pairing the dishes with one of the fabulous wines from the wine list that represents various regions of Italy. Our side, tenderstem broccoli with garlic almonds, was very tender and tasty. We ended our dinner with beautiful, irresistible Caprese (almond flour chocolate cake with mascarpone and strawberry sauce), mouth watering and warm Frittelle al pistacchio (mini doughnuts with shaved white chocolate), and Limoncello which was like a burst of sunshine in a glass. Paesan Crouch End has a nice atmosphere and the staff is wonderful, welcoming and very friendly. This is a charming restaurant with outstanding service and absolutely delicious five star food where the flavours sing."

"I used to enjoy this restaurant as a peaceful retreat in the heart of the city and considered myself a regular customer, but unfortunately that is no longer the case. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a woman who was extremely rude and condescending simply because I was a mother with a stroller. It seemed that she was at a managerial level. She was very aggressive in her tone and complained about previous incidents with mother and baby groups and their strollers taking up too much space. This all happened before she even checked our reservation. It turned out that my friend had mistakenly booked for the following day, but she made me feel like I had come on the wrong day and tried to manipulate the situation. When I politely mentioned that I felt her tone was rude, especially since I didn't make the booking, she became even more patronizing and dismissive. It was a shame because the restaurant was almost empty with plenty of space available. I met up with my mom friends outside and we decided to go somewhere else where we were greeted with kindness and given our own space. It's unfortunate that this encounter was so unnecessary, but I wanted to warn other mothers that this woman was not supportive of mothers, so think twice before making a reservation. A mother with a stroller is already dealing with a lot, and even if there is limited space, kindness should still be shown."
