"One of Trier's hidden gems. Caters mostly for younger vegan (but have some meat on offer for those who are not vegan), hipster, student crowd, a bit away from the main thoroughfare. Choice of food is a bit limited, but the food is good. And...cheap. Only drawback: if you do not speak German, it may be toughish, because all menus are in German only, staff, though nice, quick, friendly and efficient, is not overly enthusiastic to speak any other l-ge apart from German. If you do not mind that, otherwise great place with good quality, reasonably priced food."

while some friends and I were there, we found a nice restaurant with some eclectic food. I had the pizza and I'm glad I decided! we all enjoyed our meals, and the caffe is friendly and welcoming! fantastic!

Many years ago it was my favorite bar and restaurant when I was a student. After many years in the US and some big cities in Germany as a professor I visited the astarix again and the feeling was the same beeing at...home in a relaxed atmosphere where young middle age and old just feel well. Compared to other restaurants in trier, eating here is affordable and tastes good. they have some medium vegan dishes, and above all an exotic choice in suppen (also vegan) like Asian curry suppe or sweet potato soup. they turn with the season so they can. have another choice. ideal for couples and students, the mood inside is relaxed and uncomplicated.

We stopped in for lunch and something to drink. We ordered and shared the Bolognese pizza, I had a cappuccino, my husband had an espresso. The beverages were served with two tiny amaretto crisp cookies. The pizza was delicious!! It is served on a large...plate, and you cut the pizza. Our waiter spoke English, and was very helpful. My German is quite rusty, but little by little is coming back.

The strongest things about this restaurant are their diverse vegetarian options and their selection of non German red wines by the glass. The bathroom is far down stairs and cold, the atmosphere is too bright and crowded and noisy, and the staff prefers to not...even attempt to speak English. Also, I ate here in convenience to see a concert in their connecting bar, but then I had to skip the concert because the allow smoking in the bar...yuck. View menu

decent vegan and vegetarian choice, all clearly marked. we have made our own vegan pizza, which they had their homemade vegan cheese too nothing too exciting about the pizza, how a bit too crispy and the cheese had added a bit too much curcuma. but overall not a bad meal and a good place to go if they need an evening meal as a mixed eating couple. they look closed from the front, but when they turn around the back, they serve people from the outside.

The entrance to astarix is down an alleyway, and if you walk through you get to the back of the pub, which is really the front. There are tables there to sit outside and eat under a fairly impressive piece of graffiti art. I chose...the veg curry, and did not have long to wait. It was a quite unusual taste but very nice. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I came back in the evening for a couple of beers. All prices were reasonable, and it was busy but not too busy.
