"I have seen time out fell in love with a place called maxs sandwiches for his oversized portions. Well, I guess basils would give him a run for his money. I heard about this place from the beautiful alex in zomato – their offices are close and they tweeted about their mammoth sarnie to lunch. I was transfixed and placed on my list. the only problem was that they are a city lunch place – only open Monday to Friday 12 clock 3. I had to wait for a day before I could try them! they make sandwiches fresh for them and have all the usual – ice-salat, thun-fish, chickens, as well as a lot variation and some of their own creations. alex had once a scotch egg and horned bark behemoth. I found it really hard to choose – I wanted something that would not do her average sandwich deli, but also something that my unspecific demand fulfilled. at the end I felt that I had too much time looking at all the options that were plastered over the walls and went for the first thing I liked the view – the chicken swiss melt (although the sausage crunchy melt also sound tempting – it has cramped in it! I was a little concerned that the ciabatta minzemeat would make my gum, but it was perfectly soft, but robust enough to stand up to the overflowing filling. it was served warm and I didn't want to let it go cold before I ate it so I started to cuckoo back to me in the tube. mistkerl. the chili mixture was full of tweepers and paprika (krunchy and fresh they delivered a large piece of bite and sweet and it was very saucy. I made such a mess. a delicious chaos. they did not slash on the chili flakes and the senf mayo also gave off a quantity of his own heat (yes, without hurting my nose, how can heal and barkocks.) I loved the baked chicken strips. the only thing I would say was not quite the work of the Swiss cheese – it had not really melted properly and was quite superfluous. and this bestie was just £4.90! great."

not the best sandwich of the world, but filling and the staff are very friendly and they usually have free garlic brot to let them go what is very appreciated!

I am an early riser in the City and Basil's opens at 5:30. I love this place, the epitome of a good small business. They work hard and they are always friendly and efficient. The coffee and breakfast sandwiches are excellent as well. Much more satisfying than going to a mega-chain. View menu

I visited basil’s for my breakfast and lunch in this week, the sandwiches are both delicious and well proportional. a large selection of fillings and broths. the service is great and full of bright hearty talks. If I find myself here, 10/10 would go again. oh and the prizes are also good!

I cannot believe that an eatery in the heart of the City of London can sell food so cheaply and still provide such delicious food. All their sandwiches/rolls etc are so filling, and so inexpensive, you are left full up until dinner time. No more afternoon snacking. Much better than a meal deal from a supermarket.

I visited this place which does not look welcoming at all. I wanted to try the food since there is always a long queue of people getting food from there. I ordered a chicken escalope sandwich and paid £6.90 for it. Its too pricey. I could have gone to the food stalls and get something more filling for even less money. I hence do not recommend it. There are other sandwich shops around there, which are a lot better. View menu

During our trip to London in September 2023, we came across positive reviews on Tripadvisor for Basils restaurant. We decided to try their breakfast and were not disappointed. Despite being reasonably priced, the food was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. They offer a wide selection of sandwiches for both breakfast and lunch. While there is limited seating available, we opted for takeout and enjoyed our meal back at the hotel. Overall, we had a great experience and highly recommend Basils to others.

I’ve had various sandwiches over recent weeks as Basils is located next to my office. All sandwiches have been served on fresh bread, packed with fillings. Staff are excellent at reacting to customers with speed so their small shop isn’t left to bursting. My only disappointing was when trying one of their jacket potatoes. Other similar sandwich shops serve there’s with a side of salad, there’s come without and it’s simply an average sized potato. A tasty potato is made a struggle from their clear deep takeaway style container so i had to eat at a weird angle to ‘access’. cheap easily breakable cutlery struggled against the delicious crispy skin. The clear container almost made a less than ap...

"The decor of the restaurant is really lovely. We were greeted as soon as we arrived. We placed our orders quite briskly. We received complimentary bread and olives, which was a nice touch. Our Bruchetta starter arrived a whole hour after we arrived, which was disappointing and far too long to wait for a cold and easy starter. The menu did not specify that the prawns on one of the bruschettas were raw! The waiter said service was slow because they were busy with Uber Eats and Deliveroo. Clearly not prioritising paying customers, who pay a 12.5% service charge, unlike online customers. Eventually, our main courses arrived. My pasta was only just cooked, so close to being undercooked and hard. They ran out of ricotta and replaced it with the tiniest amount of cheese so I asked for some more. Since ricotta was supposed to be the main ingredient of the dish. The tuna steak was lovely, and the veal could have done with a thinner breadcrumb batter. The sides, chips and zucchini, were £4.50 and very small portions for such a cheap side. So that was slightly disappointing. Overall, the pinot grigio white wine was very drinkable, and they brought tap water when we asked for it. And the whole staff were very polite. It was a shame the service was so slow, and the food could have been better for the price that it was. We also felt it was overpriced for the location it was, zone 2 London and not in the West End."
