"I am not sure why this place is being advertised as Blue Anchor ice cream. This used to be the old Blue Anchor pub, which recently made headlines for being dangerously close to crumbling cliffs. It was shut down temporarily, but the owners took action to strengthen the cliff and have reopened this year. In the past, we enjoyed coming to this pub for the food and the beer garden with a beautiful view of the bay. However, it seems that the owners are now more focused on the accommodation side of things, which looks nice in photos. Unfortunately, it appears that the quality of the pub has declined. We stopped by the beer garden with our dogs on a nice day for lunch, but the only option available was pizza. The beer garden is only a fraction of its original size, with the rest of it left overgrown. The seating area was also neglected, with long grass and litter, including discarded poop bags. It was a real letdown! This garden used to be bustling on summer days and could still be if it received some care. I hope the owners will consider this, as it could greatly benefit the Anchors Drop business."

big place I sat with my two girls 4 and 7 watching the world go buy eating top knots crispy not greasy fish and chips. the owner was like an animated bee, all greeted and bent back to get all from the cold and to a table as soon as possible. this was hard work as the place was full at 12:30 hrs (a real performance for a beach side café in november). to distribute the great food, the great service and the great setting, they had to have cute children!

The Driftwood Cafe is a great place to visit. It is situated on the sea front at Blue Anchor, just along from the West Somerset Steam Railway station. We have been going to Blue Anchor Bay for many years and always pop in to the Driftwood. They offer a wide choice of good home cooked food. From an all day full cooked breakfast, daily specials; soup, fresh fish, other cooked meals, to salads, sandwiches, cakes and snacks. The meals are good value and well priced. They also serve the best choice of ice creams around! They also have a small range of tasteful articles for sale (not your average seaside tat! It's worth looking at the old photos on the walls, they are really interesting to see the...

My partner and I decided to go for our weekly Friday afternoon drive, a tradition we've kept up since the pandemic started. We like to explore new places, especially ones my partner hasn't been to before since she's not from the area. I've lived in Bridgwater my whole life, but there are still some spots I haven't visited. I usually choose quiet locations for our outings, and this time we drove along the Minehead road towards Carhampton and Blue Anchor. When we reached the seafront, we parked near the sea wall and took a leisurely walk on the beach, which was mostly pebbles with some sandy areas. There were only a few chalets at the top of the beach. As we drove along the seafront, we saw se...

The George Inn

The George Inn

"Yet again we needed to celebrate having resolved a long standing technical problem. The pub in Brompton Regis came up in discussion the evening before when our neighbour was around for a glass of wine. He said that before coming to our village he’d looked at houses in Brompton Regis. He left and we booked a table. Friday was a damp day but we were not deterred as we drove up into the Brendon Hills, usually distant views greet one but this day the clouds were dominant. However as we descended from Roborough Gate towards Wimbleball Lake we could turn off the wipers. By the time we crossed the bridge at the top of the lake a shaft of sun broke through and sparkled across the surface of the water whilst light wisps of mist kissed the shore line. Rounding the churchyard wall always raises our expectations for there is the George Inn. The bar door was hardly open before Tash, a beaming smile, greeted us with a price board for ‘COFFEE’. I said in my previous review that I wouldn’t mention coffee at the George again, sorry, but I must. The coffee machine had arrived the day before. Well done Tripadvisor the George! We had a wonderful starter of Baba Ganoush, new to the menu that day. It was exceptionally good with delicate flavour. Following on was chicken breast and pasta with tomato sauce, again great flavour though my wife found it a little too greasy. My Bengal curry was fantastic and a most generous serving. Our ‘Desert,’sic, was Chocolate Ganache with pistachio ice cream under crunched nuts. I had the steamed maple syrup pudding set in a delicious whisky sauce, a very delicate and light texture, just right to finish on after the curry! Of course we had our long awaited espressos from the new device, a delicious finale to our meal. Earlier in walkers had dropped in wanting a coffee. Now all on Exmoor should be heading to the George for their ‘hit’."
