"We went to the Boatyard cafe on Saturday morning on a bank holiday weekend. The inside was busy and so we sat outside, I understand that they were short staffed and had a new chef, eventually we ordered coffees after 20minutes of waiting, another staff member came out, apologised and started to take our order, I requested the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, I was told that there was no smoked salmon, I asked whether there was any gluten free options for bread, she went to check.......15 minutes later the original waiter came out and said there wasn't, I ordered the full English but again as they had run out of gluten free sausages I ordered extra bacon. My wife ordered the avocado on a muffin....ah, there were no muffins!! Clearly the weekend order hadn't been done and this was now turning into a fawlty towers sketch. We ordered what was available and more tea and coffee.Meanwhile the outside dining area was full, 20 mins, no more drinks, 30 mins breakfast and drinks arrive. The food was bland and not well presented, other customers were also complying.I am hoping that this was a bad day, we won't be going back though"

The Boatyard isn't that easy to find, but this makes it all the more delightful. Sunday lunch here was very good. The view from the window was great. Children's meals are good.

It’s a nice looking venue and the staff are friendly. We ordered breakfast c £10 each and mine came without the avocado key ingredients , which was rectified they changed the muffin to round cut bread and the eggs were very over cooked.

Once a favourite breakfast venue, today 's visit with our weekend guests was disappointing. The waitress was argumentative. Maybe some training needed? Eggs overcooked. Chef using his hands to serve food. Will not be rushing back. Too many other places to chose from to 'wow ' my guests.

We live nearby and wanted a quick light lunch with our daughter and child. We booked a table to ensure a high chair and staff were very helpful. The place is small but fine out of season. Our granddaughter played happily and they warned her food. Adult food fine and reasonably priced. Good for a coffee or drink as well.

Friendly staff; nice atmosphere; food, drink and accommodating to all (including the 'other ' family member, i.e. your dog . Ben and I were very pleased to find a truly dog friendly location on the peninsula! We 'll be back, most definitely. Thank you for a lovely lunch and an equally lovely welcome. Would recommend for you and your four-legged friend : View menu

Location is delightful because it’s away from the crowds but there is a la k of attention to detail here. I get the fact that this is boatyard and they wanted to beach out and make more money, but there is no wow factor which there so could be. Why not offer exceptional bread/toast rather than ordinary and instead of bringing a tea bag with hot water to the table (allowing it to cool), how about putting it in the water so that it can benefit from steeping? In fact, how about a really high quality tea rather than the ordinary if charging relatively high prices?

We arrived at this cafe at 1.30pm having seen the rave reviews but hadn't made a booking. There were a few tables available. We seated ourselves and collected some menus ourselves as the two serving staff seemed busy. The service was very slow. We were advised that there was practically no food left?!?!? The kids wanted a kids pasta pesto dish. They couldn't do this. Neither could they offer us a sharing platter. They were all out of everything apparently (the first Sunday of half term week at 1.30pm?!?!? . We resigned ourselves to a light lunch and chose the only thing that seemed to be available- a bowl of chili squid and a bowl of fries for the children and some drinks. The food took over...

"Booked a table of 5 for my birthday dinner. We were promptly seated then immediately asked for drinks orders before even being offered a drinks menu or water. After we had ordered drinks we were being rushed into ordering some food, every two minutes different waiters coming and asking if we are ready to order (at least 7 times). After we did order and the food was brought out, we were then just forgotten about and nobody came over anymore to check if we needed any more drinks (4 out of 5 glasses were empty) or if the food was ok. (It was- but no one checked). After we had finished dining, we still had empty glasses and had to wait 20+ minutes until we eventually stopped a waiter walking past and asked if we could order more drinks. The drinks then took another 15 minutes to come. It was also very disappointing that although we had mentioned on the booking itself that it was for my birthday, there was no acknowledgement of this (I have been before and had received a plate with ‘happy birthday’ written on it in some kind of sauce with a sparkler). My sister even went to ask the woman working on the front desk and received a standoffish attitude back saying no. When the £235 bill came, it even listed ‘birthday plate £0.00’ on it!!! That really let the evening down. The interactions with the staff themselves were great, they were very polite and personable but the actual level of service of being rushed to order and then totally forgotten about really dampened what could have been a fantastic evening."
