"The restaurant would have received a 5-star rating if the front of house (FOH) service was a little better. The meal arrived quickly with approximately a 15-minute wait between courses, which was perfect. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly, with the burger being particularly amazing and the steak boiled to perfection. However, the staff tried to take our plates without asking if we had finished eating. The app service was very slow, and we accidentally went to the wrong table near the bar for drinks. When we ordered drinks, they were brought to the wrong table and the server seemed confused. We had to go to the bar to reorder, but even then, we had to wait for 10 minutes as the staff was preoccupied with their phones and eating chicken wings. The overall ambiance was not great, as the cleanliness could have been better. Despite these issues, the back of house (BOH) operations were top-notch, earning them a 5-star rating from us."

Went for Sunday lunch . Huge portions of very well cooked food. Lovely family atmosphere. Barmaid Sue extremely helpful. Would have given it 5 stars but they’d run out of English mustard . Overall ..it’s a yes from us !

I'm local to the area so naturally the cat and fiddle seemed like a good place to drink with friends and it's worked well with the friendly bar staff especially Michaela she was nice polite and provided a nice atmosphere to which made it easy...to have a laugh and joke with. View menu

What can we say the most excellent Sunday dinner and a very special fish and chips. A very special thanks to Sue for her unique customer service skills and the way she makes you feel so special, nothing is to much trouble for her. Any...special request will be met and exceeded. Carry on doing just what you do so well.

One of favourite pubs, food great always a friendly fun atmosphere from staff and customers. David especially is an asset to the pub and is keen to make your visit special and will accommodate most requests. It is lovely to see that entertainment is now...staring again, a very much loved pub with a big community spirit.

"This was our first visit. I have to remind myself that this is a training environment for students but there should be someone in charge, who is identifiable to direct the students on how to present a menu and how to place a dish in front of customers. However, four courses for £35, amuse bouche counted for one course. Amouse bouche lacked any seasoning, orzo starter, well cooked but again lacked seasoning. My wife had fish, Coley, which was nice. I had chicken breast on a bed of curry sauce with hassleback potatoes. My whole dish was luke warm at best, the curry sauce was overpowering, and the hassleback potatoes were not crispy. The chicken was lovely and moist and I ordered a side of triple cooked chips which were super hot, expensive at £4, I only wish the rest of my dish was that hot. I had cheese and biscuits which consisted of Brie, blue cheese and cheddar together with chutney. My wife had Pain Perdue which was well presented and tasty. The restaurant is more like a cafe, not cosy, so don't choose it if you want a romantic evening. Overall would I go again? probably not. If you are ever near the Lake district try to book a table in the restaurant at Kendal College. On a final note; there is parking on an evening next to the college. Drive up to the barrier and press the call button, security will let you in. The barrier opens automatically on exit."
