"My friend and I stayed at Travelodge in Southport for a few days and decided to dine at The Dolphin, which is conveniently located near lord street. We have eaten here before and always enjoyed the meals, but this time we decided to try the senior option as we both qualify for the over 60s discount. I opted for the small portion of fish and chips with mushy peas and a slice of bread and butter, while my friend chose the steak pie. The meal was absolutely fantastic! The fish batter was light and crispy, the fish was perfectly cooked, and my friend's pie was filled with tender meat and delicious gravy. The chips and mushy peas were also fantastic. We were even offered tartare sauce with the fish. The pies were all homemade and incredibly flavorful. After our mains, we were offered apple pie or ice cream as part of the senior option, and we both chose the apple pie with cream. It was delicious and just the right temperature. The staff at The Dolphin were friendly and helpful, and even went the extra mile to make my friend's dog feel welcome by giving him a free sausage. The restaurant was spotlessly clean, with staff even cleaning the windows when not busy. I will definitely return and highly recommend The Dolphin to anyone looking for a delicious meal. Thank you to the staff for a wonderful dining experience."

I received a flyer from a man on Main Street advertising small fish and chips for £5.25 with apple pie. I chose not to have the apple pie and instead ordered two cans of Cola. The bill came to £23.98. I raised a complaint and received a £2.50 discount off the bill. View menu

Fabulous food, fabulous value. The portions were enormous and everything was piping hot when brought to the table. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially with our 16 month old grandson. We will certainly be recommending and re-visiting when in Southport.

Staff were very friendly and helpful especially as my partner is in a wheelchair, they couldn’t do enough for us. Great disabled access and accessible toilet which is a plus. Food was good value for money and very tasty, the steak pie was to die for, we would definitely recommend and will return on our next visit to Southport

Fabulous spotlessly clean chippy. Really nice chips and piping hot too. Got served by a lovely South African girl who I chatted to as I love the food over there! Had some nice desserts but were full from the chips and we'd planned a chippy crawl that day so wanted to get a few places in. Would definitely recommend it as I love a sit down chippy! View menu

Once again, "The Dolphin" exceeded our expectations. During our visit to Southport, we always make sure to stop by our favorite chip shop. The staff is always friendly and accommodating, even assisting elderly customers who may need a helping hand. The fish and chips were absolutely perfect - the fish was tender and the batter was crispy without being soggy. Our meal deal, which included a drink, was a great value. While we usually opt for the senior meal offer, we decided to try something different this time and we were not disappointed. The steak pie and apple pie were also delicious. Thank you to everyone at "The Dolphin" for a wonderful lunch experience - we will definitely be returning...

"Friday night is busy for most, I 'm sure. Appalled by the service in all honesty. Staff seem smug and unattentive. It 's too much trouble to tend your (paying) needs. To be fair.. I am mostly speaking of one particular staff member, but it appears he is the manager/lead server. I can 't differentiate as there were no introductions.. I 'm not bothered about that; necessarily, I 'm trying to stay mutual, but last night, I was so disappointed. Staff leaning over you to take plates without communication of their intentions. I 'm wondering what this place is trying to be, fine dining, or just a typical restaurant.. their attitudes claim they are of the finer sort (including the prices) Poppadoms are made to seem complimentary as you wait. But don 't worry, they will charge you.. there 's a real lack of transparency and connection between customers/staff.. I did enjoy the food somewhat, but It wasn 't brilliant.. I 've had better at the local indian takeaway, in all honesty. The receipt was confusing too (party of 10) It was very difficult to figure out the full costs per person as it was all mixed up. Whilst trying to calculate the costs per individual said staff member was hovering around and made it seem such an inconvenience, and we felt rushed. I believe I am very fair and I always give people multiple chances, but his service was unacceptable... everything was a problem for him. Perhaps it 's a difference of cultures, however, having travelled the world to a a varying degree I have never felt this way, most places have made me feel welcome and this one of the reviews I have left feeling so strongly about it. Every person of the party has shared the same view, so I am not only speaking for myself. He delegated as to how much rice or sides we should have 'as he had accounted for it all ' Which leads me to believe they are aiming for a more prestigious type establishment.. There are very few places that offer THAT type experience in Southport.. and this is not the place. I don 't want to appear angry as I enjoy experiencing all types of food/environments etc etc. But this wasn 't the experience I was led to expect. I haven 't contacted the restaurant yet, but I don 't even know if anything I say (in regards to this visit) will have any effect on their future projections. I hope it was just a busy day, and they were a bit troubled with what was going on.. if that is the case, I will 100% give them another chance and hope that they can treat whomever may enter their restaurant in a manner of which is exciting and enjoyable. After further inspection of the final bill, there were extra items added on said waiter had 'accounted ' for what we required, yet we had far too much rice and other various sides. For example.. if you order 4 beers, it should state 4x beers, But they seem to work it: 1x beer, 1 x rice , 1 x beer, 1x rice, 1x beer, etc etc (for example) Even though we ordered drinks initially, which should all be counted in chronological order. I still have the receipt but didn 't want to post a picture as I 'm sure I have said enough to give a little embarrassment. We were very disappointed and haven 't stopped talking about it since. Don 't have such high expectations and you won 't be disappointed.
