"We went to Fanhams Hall for afternoon tea to celebrate my wife’s birthday. We were really looking forward to it, but were a little disappointed. The sandwiches and scones were nice, but all the cakes were overly sweet and actually quite samey. For £38 a head (inc. a glass of Prosecco), it didn’t feel like good value. We were also disappointed by the children’s afternoon teas. They had a similar issue with the cakes, but for no obvious reason the kids’ afternoon teas come in cardboard boxes (at £15 a head), rather than on a nice, fancy stand. This caused two problems: 1) our children felt less special; 2) their cakes were covered in grated cheese from sandwiches put loose into the boxes. Service also felt quite functional.Overall, nice sandwiches and scones, but room for improvement with the rest."

We went here for Sunday lunch with friends. Both the food and service was excellent. There were quite a few large groups in the restaurant and it was very busy so I would recommend booking in advance.

We stayed for the night after attending a wedding anniversary party. The rooms are on the small side and very hot. You will need to turn the radiator down or even off! Very clean and a great breakfast! Try to allow time to take a walk in the grounds

During my stay on the 11th of February, I had dinner just before 8pm before the restraunts closing time.I found a large piece of plastic in my lamb kofta and the hotel couldn't care less. The compensation offered was tea . Therefore, they value my life at 2 pounds.

We came for food this week for my Aunt’s 70th, the staff were polite and attentive. Beautiful setting. Our food was lovely and staff even went to the trouble of preparing a happy birthday treat for my Aunt. Thank you Fanhams I’m sure we will be seeing you again in the near future. View menu

We spent new years eve here and it was lovely. It is such a charming place inside and out and the bar food and breakfast were lovely. The staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant, All in all a fantastic place to stay! Will definitely be going back, in fact we have booked to go for a lovely sunday lunch this weekend.

Booked to have a Sunday roast with family and friends for my Dads 60th birthday and we were all very underwhelmed with the lunch. We felt that there wasn’t a great deal of choice considering if was a buffet and the food itself wasn’t great. We booked Fanham Hall as it was for a special occasion and the venue and setting is beautiful however the food just doesn’t match.

Food good and ambiance lovely but a waiter kept coming to our table who did not clear away any of the main course plates. Eventually we had to move them ourselves to another table. When we came to pay, this same temporary member of staff was keen to help us to pay and was expecting a tip. Felt pressured to give a tip but it was not deserved. Did tip but irritated by this time wasting staff member who then went on to complain that time was dragging! If he had been more service oriented he might have found the time to clear the table. View menu

We celebrated my mums birthday with a family afternoon tea. The building is lovely but the toilets let’s were very dirty. The young man who served us was very friendly but unfortunately the number of savoury options was very limited. The price for what we got really was staggering. The children got the equivalent of half a sandwich comprising of cheap, poor quality fillings. Quite a disappointment overall . I basically paid just short of £150 for a 2 adults and 2 children to have a sandwich cake and total of 2 glasses of prossecco.

Can’t fault the hotel, but the food and drinks are expensive,We had a whiskey and coke and a hot chocolate it was £9-80?We had a meal of a burger with cheese and bacon, we said no relish, lettuce, or gherkin, it arrived with relish, so we said sorry the person took it back, it came back again having been scraped off the bun, you could still see it it then had mayonnaise on it, no where did it say mayonnaise on the burger menu, I don’t mind but hubby scraped it off, for £14 you would have thought they would get it right? The chips were the same ones so Luke warm by the time we got them back, Lovely room, comfortable bed,

"I recently moved from Stanstead Abbotts, a beautiful little village in the valley of the river Lea. At the end of the high street is this quaint little Thai restaurant that I used to walk by and always said to myself Before I leave this village, I will book a table and have a meal So said so done. On the afternoon of my move, I asked if they had a table available (on the spot) which they did not hesitate to give me. The restaurant has 2 sections, the front is the largest. I was given a table at the back, as I 'm assuming the other tables were reserved. The menu is vast, bright and colourful, with a touch of personal personality and the price points were within my budget, plus I was giving myself a treat. I ordered 4 dishes: 1. Pad Thai chicken Ginger dish, which I thought came with noodles, but didn 't 2. Crispy sweet and sour beef 3. Thai Green curry 4. Coconut rice This was accompanied by a medium size glass of Lemonade with a slice of Lemon for garnish. The Presentation was nicely served on white plates which made the colours of the food stand out. I had two waitresses, MiMi looked after me the most and frequently asked if all was well as I ate. I was quite hungry, so she said no rush. The decore in the back of the restaurant was embellished with potted plants, hanging from the ceiling with, faux red leather benched seating and whitewashed brick walls. Where I sat (at the back) felt slightly cut off from the main hub of the restaurant, which did affect my overall experience, albeit I was grateful to be given a table, at such short notice, so I reframed that circumstance. I could hear chatter in the busy kitchen, as takeaway orders, were going out, as well as seated reservations. BACK TO THE FOOD: All dishes were served hot and well presented. My Thai curry was in a bowl, that almost tipped over, not sure if that was my haste or the design of the bowl. This tasted exquisite. The flavours bounced around my pallet and the chicken was so succulent and morrish with a touch of heat! As I stated earlier, from the illustration on the menu I ordered Pad Thai, which I assumed was a noodle dish, yet when it arrived it was just chicken and ginger in a sauce. There must have been a miscommunication when I was making my order...Never mind, I had enough in front of me and wondered if my eyes were too big for my belly ! The crispy beef was OK, a little chewy! and the coconut rice was a delight. All in all, I was full and the meal satisfied my hunger. In reflection, if I was to order all over again, I would have ordered x2 THAI GREEN CURRY and I would have been happy, The bill was brought to my table promptly, after I asked for it in a nice golden ornate-looking bowl, accompanied by two pearl mints (nice touch) Now for the hard part.. The Bill I was pleasantly surprised to pay £38.35, that afternoon, excluding a service charge (not sure if that was because I was eating alone or what) If I were to give my whole experience of dining at Khunnai Thai Cuisine a mark out of Ten, I would grade it 7/10. Room for improvement: The decore in the back part of the restaurant, maybe some soft Thai music, Change the colour of the deep red Faux leather seating to something more tropical looking, Maybe an extension for outside dining, at the back (during summer) and a little less NaCl. Comments are given all in goodwill. Thank you for a tasty meal. I would definitely eat at Kuhnnai Thai Cuisine and bring my friends or family along...Next time I will book a table for the front of the restaurant, which appeared to be a more open-plan layout with a buzzing atmosphere."
