"If you find yourself in St Bees and you are not a local resident, there is a good chance you are preparing to embark on the famed Coast to Coast walk that begins on the beach. Close to 200 miles in length, this hike is known worldwide for its beauty. Tonight, I enjoyed a couple of English pints at a pub with people from Australia, France, and the U.S. who are all starting the hike tomorrow. The pub offers a great selection of English ales, as well as popular favorites like Guinness and Stella Artois on tap. The bartender was friendly and the food was incredible. I had the steak and ale pie with vegetable puree, which was delicious. It seems fitting that this pub is a popular spot for hikers to visit before beginning their journey, as the body needs hydration for such strenuous exercise. We are preparing ourselves for the task ahead, and Manor House Pub is the perfect place to start. I may return next year to do the walk again, and I can't imagine a better way to begin than with a pint and good company at this pub. Well done, Manor House. Well done."

"I placed an order through Just Eat at 4.30pm on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. Ordering was simple, payment was easy, and I was given a delivery time of around 6pm. Surprisingly, the food arrived at 5.30pm, still piping hot, in a beautiful Teza Spice bag. I ordered a chicken korma, garlic rice, garlic naan, and some meat samosas. The meal was delicious and there was plenty of food for two people. It was the best meal I've had since returning to the UK in early 2020. Thank you, I will definitely order again soon."

"Booked very easily on line. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. The dining area is light and spacious and the bar area nicely laid out and accessible. Very good choice of original starter dishes, ours arrived in good time and were fabulous. The choice of mains was just as good, obviously freshly cooked and again served in good time without being rushed. Can't comment on the sweets as we were too full to try those as well!! I would highly recommend the White Mare and can't wait to get the chance to go there for another meal."

"I went in a group party of 4 adults 2 young children. We booked a table but was nice and quiet as was monday night. All staff we came across were friendly and helpful i took a cake and candles as was 1 of the kids birthdays, this was no trouble. They brought it out with candle lit and all singing! They even brought enough plates and a knife for us to eat it there after our meal! Adults had starters all beautiful 2 had scampi and salad, 2 had deep fried mushrooms filled with cream cheese with salad. We asked for the kids main meal of both sausage n chips to come out with the starters which again was no problem. Mains we had steak and chips exactly cooked to how we wanted it! Cumberland sausage and chips, vegetable lasagna and chips, and gammon and chips. All the food was delicious cooked beautifully even the salad was crisp and fresh! Will definitely be recommending this place and will be going back."

"An average mark is maybe slightly harsh as we ate in the Dolly Blue a few times and generally were quite pleased with both food and service, but on our last visit the staff, despite almost outnumbering the customers, just seemed disinterested we waited some time for a drinks order to be taken despite the waiter being completely unoccupied, we had to ask for cutlery as the holder on the table wasnt re filled, we had to ask for sauces etc., and we had to ask for the table clearing when we had finished. If reviewing that night alone it was a “poor”, but the other nights drag up the average. There are however a couple of other things that might make the Dolly Blue a better experience; firstly why not stock some local beers, preferably on tap but even bottled would be better than nothing which is the offer now. Most of the competition has a range of real ales to sample. The lakes are over flowing with small local breweries, why not support them? Secondly, why the big screen belting out music videos that nobody watches and which is largely annoying. It adds nothing to the atmosphere. But finally, and this may just encourage a bit more staff enterprise and engagement, why not pass on any tips to them? We asked on the first night if a tip added to the bill would go the waiter. The answer was no. Maybe some does, and legally may soon have to, but I find it quite poor that staff who are probably paid close to minimum wage dont even get the full tip. On the nights of good service we left cash instead which I hope they pocketed."
