"Dear Ghandi team, I found the ambience convincing. It was absolutely cozy and Indian: beautiful. The service was nice, open and friendly. But only if there is a lot to go, you can quickly see if a waiter is boring: he sat several times and also saw his phone, the very visible behind Ganesha, near the bar, and was there connected to the charging cable. I don't know if this should be visible to a guest. The food was okay. Okay, because it was delicious. But I felt it was weak that I was not asked if I wanted to eat mild, little sharp, medium sharp, sharp or Indian sharp as I lived from other good Indian restaurants. I have a mild meal that I could do. But that doesn't taste like the sharpness had already been cooked with the sauce. The taste didn't blow me around either: it was delicious. But not Indian enough, in my opinion. The ginger strips were too big. And I love ginger, but that was just too much for me. In rough and completely it was a nice visit to you, but not acceptable for the prices you demand there. I don't think I'm coming back. Unfortunately!"

we've eaten in gandhi for the third time. it was always overwhelming. a small charming and particularly cozy restaurant. high-quality, authentic Indian foods to reasonably get out.

my friend and I had a very nice evening at the restaurant gandhi with really delicious food. the portions are very generous so that we could almost share one. it was my first to eat in an Indian restaurant and I chose the right one directly. I want to come back.

from outside it does not look great, the Indian restaurant. the reception is very welcoming and the greeting cordial. inside is a lot of space and this is distributed over two rooms. my friend and I chose the table in the back area very cozy in winter in a warming corner. the menu offers for every taste between meat and vegetarian everything that the palate and loves Indian flavor. the wonderful cutlery, the bowls and small bowls decorate our dinner even more. since the foods are well selected, fresh and processed by happy animals, the reader of my text can well imagine how delicious the food tastes in the gandhi. thanks for the wonderful evening! I'm looking forward to next time. View menu

This is kind of 'authentic' as it's going to get in Hamburg. Speaking a little Hindi Urdu or even explaining that you've lived come from the UK or even India! and that you NEED it more authentic really helps beef up the flavour of the food. Reason being most Germans cannot handle don't like the herb or spice level of a real authentic Indian so for us Brits and my heritage coming from the sub continent it's not easy to find a restaurant that understands your needs. If it helps tell them the you want it like Safia and Fabien have their food with more flavour and more spice! What is great here is the fact you get rice and naan with pretty much everything and the ingredients are of a high standa...

"There's always a question (in my mind, anyway) as to Michelin's accuracy/usefulness outside of France. In the US, it's not very helpful at all and in Europe ex-France, I've found it hit and miss. Haerlin represented only my second stab at a two-star in Germany and the first meal (Heinz Winkler), while a thoroughly wonderful overall experience, felt like the second star might have been a stretch. Not so at Haerlin, this was a two-star meal that stands fork-to-fork with any I can remember. The food is stylized to within an inch of its life, but close to flawless in both conception and execution. Outside of a large selection of generally unremarkable breads and a luke-warm roasted onion broth added to an amuse at table side that probably should have been hotter, the meal was simply one perfect dish after another. Maybe the sorbet intermezzo was a little old school in such a fashion forward meal, but - hey - it was delicious! Keep it.The room is suitably formal, luxurious in a traditional style, and quite comfortable. The pace of service might be a little leisurely for some (I ate alone and the four-course menu (seven + courses, including amuses, etc) pushed it a bit, stretching just over three hours. However, the friendly and attentive staff kept an eye out the entire time and stopped by if the time between courses presented the opportunity. The somm, in particular, was a great diversion, visiting from time to time to discuss the varied and interesting wines on offer. He provided useful insight into the outstanding selection of trocken Rieslings on the list. He guided me to a 2001 Burklin-Wolf GG that, at Eu 150, was both a great bottle of mature white and a tremendous value for a wine of this quality in this type of restaurant. (Good luck finding a white burgundy of this quality at this price at any multi-star restaurant - or at retail, for that matter.) He also suggested a wonderful German Pinot Noir by the glass that worked perfectly with the meat course and wasn't terribly expensive. The list is extensive, but not the tome you see at some restaurants, but don't be fooled - wine service at Haerlin is both a major plus and represents notable value in the context of multi-star restaurants.I'm not going to argue two-star vs three-star because that distinction often seems to be kind of mysterious (and tangentially related to the food), but I will say that this place certainly deserves two stars. I had just a flat-out great meal. If you can work in a visit, Haerlin should be high on your list."
