"This restaurant is located on a quiet street away from the touristy restaurants in the square. The outdoor seatings were in the shade across from the main restaurant, the atmosphere was very pleasant. The menu of the day was written on the black board in French, the prix fixe menu was interesting and reasonable (under 17euros). Our waiter spoke English and was very nice. We were given the English menu but the prix fixe were at higher price. We ordered from the French menu and were very impressed with the meal. The salmon and the veal were cooked perfectly. The side dishes were mashed potato and roasted vegetables. The waiter said the mashed potato was the best in the world, WE AGREED!We highly recommend this restaurant for lunch, quality meal, reasonable price, nice atmosphere!"

One of the best low key, good food restaurants in Bordeaux.

A really disappointing meal. Greasy fish, vegetables. The only good thing was the wine options and the potato side dish.

Welcomed, despite an early arrival. Friendly waitress, delicious "souris" of lamb. Don't be put off by the name, it's lamb shank. Good selection of veg. No wine list - you choose your wine from racks - all priced. Certainly worth a visit if you are in this area of Bordeaux. View menu

We had a taste for poulet- which is very tricky to find in the restaurants in Bordeaux. We saw it as a special and decided to try. Pepe our waiter was very kind and helpful. The dish was fantastic, the vegetable Julien was good and we drank a lovely Chablis. Good experience.

We found this little restaurant just off Place St.Georges and were tempted by their plat du jour. Offering a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains, & dessert or coffee. All for €17. We took an outside table and were served very promptly. The food was excellent. Pate & salad starters, with mains of beef cooked on skewers which was done exactly as we had ordered..

Saturday night in Bordeaux, our first night. We knew the area we wanted to go, but didn't imagine that everything would be booked up. We'll know for the next time. After trying 6/7 places, we stumbled upon Le Gem, which was nicely busy, but had room.We had a wonderful meal, with great service, at a reasonable fixed price.A feature is that you pick your own wine fro the rack, with expert assistance. And we chose a cracker! After two meals elsewhere, we went back for our last night and it was even better.Wonderful ice cream View menu

I visited the restaurant based on the nice reviews. I found it to be nothing special compared to other restaurants in the area in the taste and quality of the dishes as well as in the price paid. The value for money ratio is quite low in the centre of Bordeaux and Gem restaurant is not an exception. The appetizer was tiny and the dessert was absolutely horrible: chocolate souffle that was actually a cold cake. First time that has happened in France! Mains were OK but nothing out of the ordinary. Wouldn't go there again. Better shop around in the area for other restaurants.

I visited Gem on a Friday evening and had a great time. I ordered goat cheese wrapped in bacon for my starter - it was served on green salad and tomatoes and was delicious. For main, I had lamb shanks which were perfectly done and served with vegetables, potato mash and chips. I finished my meal with sorbet and ice cream. The whole meal was 25 euros which is not bad considering the location. The restaurant itself is tiny, and the atmosphere was a bit cold at first, but it soon got much merrier when it got a bit busier. The waiter was helpful and spoke English which made it easier for us. They also have a good wine menu which is another plus. Overall, I can definitely recommend!
