"We walked to Sutton Courtenay from Abingdon with the intention of having lunch at the George and Dragon, whiuch we remembered from our last visit some years ago as a pleasant country pub with a modest but well thought out menu. How times change. Before we set out, we checked the website. It was distinctly unhelpful. It directed us to a Facebook page for the menu. We found the page, but there was no menu. Nothing daunted, we set out on our walk. We arrived at the pub, and were encouraged by the large chalkboards displayed on the forecourt. These informed us several times over that the kitchen was now open, serving home cooked food. We entered, and our hearts sank. In one bar, there was a solitary customer and a large screen blaring out daytime television. In the other, dominated by a garish gaming machine, tables were set out, but there was no sign of any other customers or staff. Another chalkboard behind the bar set out a not very enterprisng menu. By this time, we were wondering whether we really wanted to lunch in such a lack lustre establishment. Luckily, the decision was taken out of our hands. A woman, presumably the landlady, swept through, pausing only to say sorry, kitchen 's closed, chef ' 's not well . We were not even invited to order drinks. We left, and took our custom to the Swan, one of the other two pubs in the village. By contrast to our dismal experience of the George and Dragon, this proved to be everything we could have wished for. We shall post a separate review on Tripadvisor."

We had lunch at The George Dragon today. The food was excellent, home cooked with great sized portions and the staff could not have been more helpful. Please visit this lovely pub in a beautiful setting you won't be disappointed. Jo

I recently stopped by for dinner with my children. We received a very warm welcome and everything was served promptly. The menu has a good range of classic pub food and all our meals were very tasty. They also had a number of vegetarian options. View menu

I have visited this restaurant several times and I absolutely love it. On my most recent visit, they were hosting a family day in support of the children's air ambulance charity. I decided to order a burger from the barbecue, and it was honestly the best burger I have ever tasted. I will certainly be returning in the future!

I recently visited The George after not going for a few years, and was surprised to see that The Dragon is no longer there. My main reason for visiting was to experience quiz night. While I didn't win, I enjoyed the community spirit, great beer, and substantial bar snacks. It seems like the place is under new ownership, as it is much tidier than before and has a slightly Orwellian influenced decor. The website link was not working and the pictures did not reflect the current atmosphere of the place. Despite these observations, I will definitely be returning and bringing some of my cleverer friends with me.

Four of us stopped here for lunch while on our way to a nearby hotel for the weekend... Although the menu was limited, it was just right and what we needed...tasty food and cooked to order. The hosts, Jackie and Phil were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Jackie greeted us and took our orders, then Phil prepared and cooked the food. I wouldn 't take too much heed to some of the bad reviews that I 've seen written about this pub... I agree that the place could do with updating and the garden area would benefit from a makeover, but this a traditional 'local ' pub and Jackie and Phil are amiable and obviously look after their 'passing trade ' custom as well as their regulars. We will definit... View menu

We stopped by on Saturday afternoon during a walk from the nearby village of Milton and inquired about hot drinks. I wanted a coffee while my boyfriend wanted a pint, so we weren't expecting a cafe experience. The bartender was quite rude when I asked about hot drinks and informed me that they only served plain tea and coffee in cardboard cups, and that they did not serve food (even though we hadn't asked for any). Despite the bartender's attitude, I still ordered a coffee in a cardboard cup, even though I noticed they had china mugs behind the bar. Unfortunately, the coffee tasted like black water, despite my initial hopes of it being made with a proper machine. The pub itself had lovely de...

Me and my other half have been waiting for the doors to open, to try the George and Dragon out as it has been closed for a while and now open, under new management. The table and chair arrangement is still cosy and overcrowded. No welcome, greeting, acknowledgment or smile from the gentleman behind the bar. Once a seat had been found, I had headed back to the bar and was curious what was on tap/hand pump and said ooooohhhh what 's on tap beer wise the barman looked up and glared at me. What was on offer beer wise, was ales and abv round about the same benchmark. There was no variety of ales considering the time of year and no dark ales or porters. What was a much looked forward experience of...
