"I have visited this restaurant before and found the young staff to be pleasant, but the owner is quite particular. They insist on customers waiting at a specific sign, which can feel a bit strict. The servings are not very generous, and if you ask for a full cup, the owner may become irritated. The lack of proper ventilation makes the place uncomfortably warm, despite having an open main door and a side door. Additionally, there are no windows for air circulation. The overhead lighting is kept off to save energy, making it difficult to read a newspaper. Overall, the owner is not very hospitable, and I do not plan on returning."

This is now under new ownership and standard of food is high. They use Suki tea, which I love! Soups are good too!

The best cheese scones in the world and amazing coffee as well! The quality is always excellent and we make sure to visit every time we are in Kelso.

This simply has to be the best cafe in the Borders. Fresh coffee, home made cakes and a buzz of people enjoying themselves. Friendly staff all guided by Captain Susan ... I could go on and on!

Last time I was there it was at the time between breakfast and lunch menus. No problem, they happily mixed and matched to suit my peculiar tastes. Always worth a visit, good friendly staff. Easy parking. All positive and no negatives.

Great place for coffee and scones or really naughty cakes, if that's your preference. It's also a good place for lunch, but it gets very busy and you may want to reserve a table. They do excellent home made soups and a range of plain and toasted sandwichesas well as ciabatta and panini.

Visited Kelso today and saw their sign in front of the derelict Church advertising the cafe being the Church, we eventually found it, the sign on the door said open, but it was closed, checked the opening times and it doesn't open on Sundays, so why have signs out and open on the door, very annoying.

The cafe, now known as THE KNOWES, has recently changed ownership and operating hours. They are now open from 9:30 am until 4 pm (3 pm on Sundays). The cafe has been under new ownership since February of this year and has received a fresh new look and slightly updated menu, though it remains mostly the same as before. Despite the changes, it continues to be my preferred spot in Kelso for enjoying a hot drink and a meal. The establishment is consistently clean and well-maintained.

My partner and found this place as it was by the car park where we parked. Kelso had been recommended to visit but it was such a cold and windy day we got fed up and headed back to the car. Deciding to stop for coffee we chose Hoot 'n Cat and what a great find. I had ciabatta (brie and cranberry) and my partner had stovies. I didn 't want the accompaniment with the ciabatta which was no problem (many times I find this request is ignored). This was the best brie and cranberry ciabatta I have ever eaten! The place was very busy but all the staff were pleasant, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. I recommend a stop here.
