"I believe it is a must to try some signature food in Marseille during my first travel to there. Have done research on websites before the trip and found that the price of bouillabaisse in some famous restaurants are quite expensive. Therefore, we decided to...pick one by random when we arrived there. Old Port of Marseille is a famous tourist attraction. There are a lot of restaurants and we walked around some of them. Most of them offer bouillabaisse, but at different price. We finally picked one with moderate price and ordered one for 4 to share, because we wanted to try some other dishes. When we ordered the bouillabaisse, the waitress explained to us what kind of fishes are used to make the soup, only seasonal fishes were used. Since Marseille is famous of seafood, we also ordered a fish which was recommended by the waitress and the mussels. The major ingredients of bouillabaisse are few kinds of fish and potatoes. The taste of the soup is full of fish, but not fishy. And there are many pieces of fish. I like eating fish very much, therefore, I liked this soup. The soup is served with tiny pieces of bread and a garlic sauce. The garlic sauce is mild but quite special. It's worth to have a try. The recommended fish is good which is fresh, juicy and soft. The mussels were ok."

We went to this restaurant on a recommendation. A great spot on the harbour. The menu is fish only, however they had run out of salmon. Four different dishes all with varying degrees of success. The platters were great but the grilled fish was very...dry.

Tried them for Bouibasse. Ample portions of fish. Lots of mussels, clams and fresh fish. One person had seabass and felt it was lose to best ever had. Good wine selection. Prices very reasonable for fare. Went back second night as it was very good....Had swordfish and others the seabass.

Strolling around the Vieux Port we found the Hippocampe restaurant for dinner. We experienced great service and delicious food including fresh fish and seafood as well as carefully prepared sides and to top It off wonderful desserts. The restaurant manager came to talk to us...and made us feel very welcome. Nice wine selection. Professional service. Fairly priced for quality offered. We will come back on our next trip.

I chose this restaurant on the basis of the positive tripadvisor reviews for the bouillabaisse. sad this was by far the worst bouillabaisse I have ever tasted – there was no spicy at all on the suppe and the taste of the broth could only be called muddy. the rouille (which was delicious) and crumbs could not save the dish. the prices were also quite high (even if the food was good.) that said the service was friendly and prompt despite the fact that the restaurant was packed.

we visited this restaurant at our first night in marseille, which was our first night in france (ever.) there was a language barrier, because my man and I mostly spoke English with broken franzosen, so we didn't get everything we ordered...but it turned out that there was no problem! the portions were very good, and eating had good taste! the garnel that I had were absolutely delicious! all in all it was a good experience, only a definitive language barrier if they don't speak well French.

great food. our favorite. directly at the quai du port at the old harbour. offers both a real bouillabaisse for two, and a hard to find version of bouillabaisse for a (38 euro really great with super rich broth. also has an excellent spaghetti avec fruits de Mer...(29e) and super well grilled rougets barbet (24e.) and a very good nougat glac dessert (8.3e) has a ok creme catalan dessert. after the black at sur le port the grilled dourade (sea bream) is excellent. as the cream brle. next to lhippocampe (translation the seahorse is miramar, which also has for two bouillabaisse and is known as the best bouillabaisse in the opposite.

I ordered before the kitchen close with my husband. But, the staff forgot my order. They served only the starter and his meal. I asked the staff and they repeatedly said that due to the kitchen close they couldn’t serve my food. They never apologised...for their mistake and strongly mentioned that my order could not be understood. But, I remember that the staff repeated my order. A few of the restaurant staff visited me to explain the situation that there was no cooker and they couldn’t cook. It was very disappointed that they never apologised and just said that the staff forgot my order. This experience made my trip. In addition, the meal my husband order was not so good. I never recommend...

I had a lovely lunch here one of the best on my trip to France. The waitress was extremely friendly and I went with her recommendation. I had scallops, cuttlefish and prawns and it was extremely fresh and delicious. The setting is great overlooking...the port. I think, judging from the other reviews, that it can be a bit hit and miss. It isn't the cheapest restaurant but none of the ones in that area are particularly cheap anyway. In terms of the Bouillabaisse, I didn't have it but this place was recommended to me as one of the cheaper places to get Bouillabaise. It also does it for one person (a lot of the other places serve it for 2 persons minimum). I went at lunchtime, and as with most p...
