"With such high ratings, I was excited to try Mykonos. While the location, the service and the price were perfect the overall dinner experience fell short of expectations. Mykonos is a nicely decorated and relatively new restaurant in a town that all agree need more good restaurants. They offered excellent service and a wide menu selection. The feta in phyllo was an exceptional standout from the appetizer section, with the benefit of including the best tasting salad/garnish of the meal. The zucchini balls were also good. On the main courses we ordered moussaka and gyros. The moussaka was well seasoned, filling, and visually appealing. Overall very good. The gyros however were a let-down. When I think gyros, I think warm moist Greek seasoned meat mixed with fresh tzatziki, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sometimes lettuce or even crumble feta on a fresh warm pita. The bread soaks in the meat flavor and holds it all together. Unfortunately Mykonos serves their gyros as a plate of meat with tzatziki and the odd German tomato rice and french fries. While this plate of meat with french fries is very German, we chose a Greek restaurant specifically to escape this plate of meat philosophy. None of the traditional makings of a gyro (i.e. google gyros) were to be found. This would have been ok if the meat had been great, but it wasn't. It was almost like over-salted, dried meat jerky. Too salty to eat on its own, and more tough/chewy than I'm used to. So, if you don't want to serve gyros the way a lower class or takeaway lunch place would make them (as you stated), that is totally your choice. However, as a consumer I would recommend at least making your plate of meat good enough to stand on its own merit. My bar was quite low as I haven't had a good gyro in almost two years, and you still missed it."
