"It's the second time I've come here and I had a great time in both. Very varied menu with many possibilities (vegetarian, vegan... Very good pizza and pasta too, the carbonara in particular was delicious. There are many desserts, I tried the tiramisu and the pistachio cheesecake, both very good. The service in general is excellent, we were served by Mariano, very kind, friendly and helpful, we had a very good time. I will definitely go back."

Nice Italian restaurant, with welcoming staff. The dishes ok. The room is huge and quite noisy.

Really good place. I loved the pizza 4 cheeses. I went with my girlfriend during our winter trio in Switzerland.

Maybe the pizzas are good, but the rest of the menu is not as good as in a canteen. Overcooked meat with no taste. And the accompaniment blah blah…

2 hours of delays, no answer on the phone, doesn't have the courtesy to tell the poor delivery guy that the order will be late... it's not like he's paid by the task...

Very nice restaurant which has been redeveloped in place of a former cinema located in the center of Lausanne, the pizzas are very good and the atmosphere for those who have known this cinema is quite interesting!

Worst service ever! They said if we order different pastas it would take 30 minutes. How can it be that a restaurant has a big menu and cannot handle the orders? Then we ordered they said around 30 minutes. It took 50 minutes and nothing. We approached the waiter and they had not even started to prepare, then they asked for more 30 minutes. We simply left the place.

"Au Charbon is family managed restaurant, set in a pleasant and quiet part of Lausanne, easily reached on the bus, if like me, you are touring. The restaurant is ‘cosy’ and the owners have maximised the number of seats available, which sounds like me...spinning a cramped venue but it actually works out okay. We had sufficient room to relax and eat without imposing on our neighbouring tables, so the efficient spacing added to the atmosphere and the wine waiter added character. The restaurant has a traditional pizzeria menu with no surprises with the choice of pizza, steaks etc. All our choices were well presented, cooked exactly to request and delicious. Portion sizes were just right too On the down side, the table service was very slow, it took around an hour for the first course and one dish was wrong when it eventually arrived but we put that down to being busy. The lady serving was also a bit too presumptuous that the change from the bill would be her tip and she didn’t return the change, eventually coming back to confirm if this was so. In summary, I enjoyed my meal and time at Au Charbon, they seem to have earned their reputation from being consistent in serving nicely presented dishes that are cooked well. The higher end options are a bit on the pricey side if you are on holiday, especially when considering this is a pizzeria (a steak costing CHF). However most restaurants of this type in Lausanne are similarly priced and it is what it is."
