"We just had an outstanding lunch of seafood chowder followed by salmon topped with olive tapenade, served with broccoli and mash. We arrived about 2:30 on a weekday afternoon, had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to be cleared, then waited and waited to place our order. Finally got a drinks menu and ordered, then waited more. Eventually our chowder arrived, hot, delicious, full of flavor, chunks of salmon, potato, onion, about 7 mussels, and other bits of various fish, served with 2 slices of soda bread. After we'd finished the chowder, our salmon arrived, a large piece, beautifully poached until just cooked, topped with olive tapenade, served with broccoli, mashed potatoes and a lemon wedge. The salmon was divine, definitely fresh. Despite the long stretches of waiting, this place deserves a high 5. Inadequate staffing is not unexpected on a slow weekday afternoon in slow season in a seaside town."

Bravo to the establishment being truly dog friendly! It's wonderful to be able to bring our fur babies to eat inside with us. Service was great and food was delightful. Would definitely come again!

Great spot for good pub food on the waterfront, next to the hotel and spa. Had a delicious Caesar salad with roasted pulled chicken that was very hearty. Also a good bar for a libation before or after dinner.

Had the brief cheese and braised beef. Both were wondeful. The building is absolutely beautiful- lights were on a bit too high. Wine selection is small but priced great (we enjoyed our bottle very much!! Cant beat the view of the sea

We are staying nearby and decided to try this place out. Glad we did! We order seafood chowder and salmon fillets. Outstanding !! The chowder was delivered HOT and remained that way untill the end. Lots of seafood chunks and the flavors we're subperb! The salmon was delivered with an olive tapenade and included delicious mash &broccoli. One order if each was enough to fill us both up. So plenty of food is delivered here.

After a round for the ages at Royal County Down, you can walk to this gem adjacent to the beautiful Slieve Donard hotel and spa. Open, airy bar with lots or brass and hardwood. Restaurant has some great views of the Slieve and the sea. The seafood chowder, sea bass and roast chicken all excellent. My companions also enjoyed the lamb, beef and salads. Chatty young servers and good Guinness. A must stop for a civilized meal following a round at RCD!!!

Percy French is closed through July 2023 and hasn't bothered to post it on their website so I wanted to share they are closed. They've packed up the Game of Thrones door and sent it to storage rather than relocate it to a section of their establishment that is open. If you are looking to see all of the GOT doors, you're out of luck. The only people who put their door in storage instead of relocating it to the open section of their massive property. I personally think GOT should take their door back and put it in an establishment that respects GOT and more importantly the fans who plan trips to see the doors

We had dinner at Percy French on our second evening at Slieve Donard in July 2024 and we greatly enjoyed our experience. It's a lovely restaurant with gorgeous views, attentive staff, and good food. I had the half roast chicken with champ and gravy, and served with a side of vegetables, which was broccolini and Snap peas. Others at the table got steak, burgers and fish and chips. I thought my food was good and especially enjoyed the champ and gravy. Everyone else said they enjoyed their meal as well. Overall it was about what I expected for a meal out on vacation in N Ireland; a bit pricey for good quality food in a lovely location. I would eat here again based on my experience.

A fantastic restaurant/bar located in the grounds of The Sleive Donard Hotel. Percy French has the look and feel of an old golf club house, timber frames on the ceiling, tv with sports on and a good range of traditional beers. We decided to visit Percy French after a long walk on Newcastle promenade mainly because of it's outside, dog friendly seating area. There's around 10 tables outside with a few covered tables at the front of the building. We only popped in for one drink but it was very nice and the atmosphere was great. There was large groups of families inside and the staff were extremely welcoming. There's also free wifi which is extremely important in the signal black spot that is N...

"On a Monday afternoon, my dining companions and I had a special occasion and decided to try out a unique and intriguing vegan menu at the restaurant. We started with the Beetroot starter, which was delicious and very light. The fermented barley starter had a peculiar taste that I had never experienced before, but it was warm and essential. For the main course, I had the stuffed dish, which was artistic, delicious, and very light. The pudding was advertised as peach, blood orange, and ink red, but it turned out to be sorbet on crispy crumbs, which was still very delicious. We also shared a side of Veg, which was recommended to us as part of the tasting menu. However, we found that the tasting menu lacked enough courses and felt that additional dishes like bread, veggies, and potatoes should be offered to prevent hunger. The prices of the additional dishes were not listed on the menu, and we felt that they could be a bit exaggerated, especially given the cost of a glass of wine at £8. Despite these concerns, we appreciated the creativity and effort put into the menu development and the preparation of the dishes. We recommend trying out this restaurant and supporting their venture, but suggest ordering extra dishes and opting for at least three courses if you're not too hungry. We ended up going elsewhere for coffee and a vegan dessert to feel more satisfied. We were impressed by the fact that the dishes were plant-based rather than just vegan and would definitely consider returning in the future."
