"We were booked into the hotel but decided to eat at Rafters last night. The food was terrible and had we not been in a hurry as we were heading out and starving, we would have sent it back. We had the fish and chips and it was way over cooked, the chips were actually burnt and the batter on the fish was rock hard. The fat or oil that it was cooked in was obviously needing changed too as you could taste the dirty fat. Then there was the peas, they were supposedly in truffle oil but horrible. The manager, if doing his job properly should have removed the food when he saw it but all he said was I’ll take the comments on board. Really really bad. So we ate at the Faerie Tree tonight in Aberfoyle, where we saw others from the hotel!!!! The food here was first class. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1"

The starters (Haggis) was excellent, the Mains (burger) was hopeless (RIP, poor beef), the Wine (Italian) was good, the Service was intringuingly insistent, the Ambience was passable (with a customer's dog barking non stop) and the Bill inflated. Touche!

I am a bit disappointed with my stay at Forest Hills. The rooms and location are okay but the services are below average. The staff at breakfast and dinner both are bit rude and less accommodating. The resort is an hour drive from edinburgh so you only have the option to eat in the resort where the options are very limited and extremely pricey. Kitchen closes at 8 30 and there isn't any room service. If you are a vegetarian then dont even bother staying here. They dont have a lot of activities as marketed. Everything seems very run down/old. I loved my massage in the spa but the high tea was very very average.

Late to have the room ready with zero apology. Failed to do any of the things to notify us when it was ready, had to chase repeatedly. Room itself was lovely. WiFi is atrocious anywhere other than the bar and the room. Prices are astonishingly off the mark. I recommend bringing your own drinks and snacks! The grounds and location are the saving grace at this location. It's so very beautiful and the gardens are perfectly kept. Noteworthy details: There's a huge chance your room will not be ready on time. I was chastised for being annoyed and told the cleaners were going as fast as they can. No apology or offer of later check out the following day
